This was a great book! Loved it from beginning to end. So many of the issues happened while I was growing up. Some of it was before I was born. But the election of Kennedy and his assination happened when I first started Jr. High. There was a lot of history that I remember. This is one of my favorite Steele books.

I just loved this book. It drew me in immediately and is set mostly in the sixties, though it starts earlier when Meredith is a small child and her family moves to Germany for four years. I was completely absorbed in the story as it dealt with racism and the Vietnam war and what was expected of a woman in that era--go to college for a 'Mrs. Degree'. It also showed how some people will fight the good fight to stand up for what's right. I also thought it painted a very realistic picture of showing how her parents, even though her father fought to sentence the Nazi killers, when he returned home to the States, he was fine with the prejudice of his daily life, of not wanting his daughter to go to Harlem or invite their black maid to dinner and wasn't troubled that neither blacks or Jews were allowed to own in many buildings or to make their debut. Her grandfather however was a positive influence and more open and progressive than her father. Even though it's set in the sixties, there are eerie parallels to the current state of our country.

I read the reviews before I started reading and should have believed them. It was a long drawn out story of historical events. The main character went from being an activist to a foster/adoptive mom in the last few chapters. Big disconnect in the story. Danielle I love you - but this one didn't cut it.

I was very disappointed in this book. It's very unusual for a Danielle Steel book to be sloppy, but there were kindle formatting errors. Also, a computer was stolen from her office and computers weren't prevalent in offices in that period of history.

While I thought the characters were generally well developed, I kept waiting for something to HAPPEN. The historical aspect of the book was interesting and caused me to draw parallels to today's political environment, but the overall plot was very thin.

Although the characters in this book are far from dynamic, there is a sense of coming of age during a period in America when things were changing for the better. Set in the 50’s and 60’s, the historical emphasis is touched on but nothing in depth! This could have been a much longer book with more detail. One scene that was one of the best was the description of Kennedy inaugauration!!! Interesting for those who lived it and perhaps those who did not! A time in America for hope and calmness, followed by some rough days...perhaps this is not the cozy romance one comes to expect from this author, but I like the change. I prefer her historical books!!! Hopefully, there will be more.

I have read every DS book and have really enjoyed most of them. I like how she includes so much factual research into her story lines! That said, this book was truly lacking in depth and character development!
I found the main character to be very boring..in fact the whole book was boring!!!
I was disappointed that the whole book was wrapped up in the last twenty pages or so with a very unsatisfying ending. Not a bad ending... more like...who cares!
I feel like DS is putting out so many books a year that she is no longer doing her once upon a time, awesome writing. She seems to have less to say as her books keep getting shorter as well.
Very disappointing to say the least!
Would not waste my money on this one!

This was awful! What an incredibly boring book. The story felt like Steel went through a history book and just plugged characters in as she went along. Nothing went together. There was no interest in the story or characters. I tried to “speed read” through thinking I might come to a better part. I never did. Don’t waste your time. One of her WORST books!!!!

I have been a fan of Danielle Steele for years and have read and enjoyed most of her books. Unfortunately this was not the case with The Good Fight. The story was dry and boring. The were a few interesting historical tidbits, but they couldn't save the story. The characters were so unlikeable, it was painful. The whole little rich girl on a civil right crusade plot made the book almost unreadable.

I have read all of Danielle steel books...I think she may be putting out too many in a year. I don't think the substance of the book is the same as her older books. Maybe someone is helping her write all these newer books. Not the same quality unfortunately

I read the reviews before I read the book. I almost didn't read it because of some of the negative reviews, however I am glad that I did. It was an interesting read, of a very interesting time of life. I will agree with one of the other reviews however . This doesn't really seem like a book that Danielle Steel wrote. It just doesn't seem to have her flare or style. I've read every book that she has ha published, for the most part they all pretty much read the same way. Some of her more recent books just seem like they are written by someone else...maybe not.

I try to read everything Danielle Steel writes and am always excited when a new book comes out, as I was with this book. It didn't take long before I realized this book didn't create any real excitement. It was very slow although I loved her characters and came to respect them but the storytelling almost seemed that of a student writing for a class. I found I could easily skip pages and not miss any of the storyline.

This has got to be one of most poorly written books I’ve ever read. I was basically a narrator telling the story with very little dialogue. What dialogue there was seemed to be intended for elementary age readers . Was this really a novel or the outline for one? I did finish the book in hopes it would improve but it did not.
This is my first Steel novel. How could she have so much published work when it’s this bad.

This book was better than the last one, and for the first time in the last 4-5 books I couldn't guess the ending, which was really poor. It didn't even sound like an ending, it was more like she just stopped writing and never came back to finish it?

I have always been a Danielle Steele fan but this book is a loser. Unbelievable story and the central character was not even remotely likable. She was self righteous and pathetically naive. Supreme Court justices are not seen in public wearing ‘campaign buttons’. Ludicrous.

She's not writing it, she just hired ghost writers to use her name and share the profit. Lot of used-to-be famous writers died so many years ago are still churning out inferior books by ghost writers by using their names; the publishers and their families share the profit. James Patterson has hired so many ghost writers to use his name and churn out so many novels every months. There's no way a writer could have written so many books and so fast in every month, he's like a mass-product factory. There's no way a writer could have written and published so many books every month.

I have read all of Danielle Steel’s books but feel this was one of the poorer written one. It was as if she had been allotted a certain number of pages and when she realized she had almost at her limited she quickly finished the book!

After reading a couple books by Danielle Steel, that didn't seem like her writings, I was skeptical about reading another one. Steel did a great job with this one, considering the time line she was writing about, a controversial time of history.

Read this in one day, which usually happens with a Danielle Steel book.
I have always been interested in the era this book takes place in, JFk, MLK, Vietnam etc. the main character , Meredith stayed true to who she was though out the entire story, which made me fall in love with her.
The only issue I had with the book was the end.... it was so abrupt, I wanted more!!

The story was very slow in the beginning, however, did pick up somewhat but then it abruptly ended. I was searching for more pages at the end. I couldn’t believe it ended so quickly. I am now questioning whether I will continue to read Danielle Steele books. I think she is writing for quantity and not quality. Very disappointed.

I could not put this book down. The history of the late fifties, and the sixties really grabbed me. I knew the history of this time period, but the way it was inter woven into the story line was great. I liked the secondary character of Claudia and how the holocaust was retold. One must never forget.
This was one of her best books.
