Heyer definitely earned her nickname as the queen of regency romance. This novel is no exception. As always, she gives detail about clothing, food, carriages and mores of the period. And her characters are wonderfully developed and exposed.

The characters and times were well described, but the plot was a bit slow. I have read other Georgette Heyer books that I enjoyed more. Some conversations seemed extremely verbose and didn't really move the plot along that much.

For as long as I can remember, reading a Georgette Heyer historical romance has been a wonderful escape into a time long passed. Her characters are humorous and clearly above average. In this book love takes the Rocky road between the "green" girl and the "rake". But as we know roads do lead us home again. Loved the little brother.

Absolutely delighted with this unabridged audio version of one of my favorite Georgette Heyer novels. Phyllida Nash's Venetia and Lord Damerel are perfect, to me, as are all the secondary characters! The book that I've loved for years has come alive in a whole new way.

Narrated by Richard Armitage North & South in his dreamy chocolate baritone, it is a very pleasurable way to hear Georgette Heyer's Regency era romance. While not Jane Austin it is an easy going little story and RA does a great job of dramatizing it (his falsetto's are so funny).

A good, light read. Georgette Heyer had a wonderful imagination and kept to her story line at all times. Nothing "deep and meaningful"just light reading and very entertaining. All of Georgette Heyer's characters are believable and entertaining.

Georgette Heyer captures the essence of Regency England in her enchanting novels. Her heroines are usually spirited and stand up to their menfolk and her evocation of manners and morals, food and dress is unparalleled.

Delightful plot, unexpected twists, inInteresting characters. A book well worth revisiting as I just did. The attraction to revisit her books is a strong attraction of Georgette Heyer's Regency romances

This was one of the first Georgette Heyer book that I ever read. I think that I was only 12 or 13 at the time; I has just moved up from the children's section of the library to the adult stacks. I enjoy that this book is less about Regency high society and more about country life and people who are not impressed by the societal norms of the time.

Ah! I wish I could read this anew without knowing what was coming next- and slowly savor the moments. It is a love story through and through. My, oh my- you will have to read it yourself to see what I mean!

Georgette Heyer is the best. She delivers the most romantic, delightful stories without explicit sex. She let's your imagination take you where you want to go. I have never found any to equal her.

I have always liked Georgette Heyer but I must confess the reason that I made this purchase is because it is read by Richard Armitage, who has a fantastic voice! I was very pleased with the story and also by Mr. Armitage's talent in changing his voice for each character. This was a very good purchase-you will really enjoy listening to it.

Venetia, along with A Civil Contract, goes well beyond usual Regency romance formulas. It's wonderful fun (especially Heyer's deflation of a pompous suitor), but it also represents pain and loneliness, even hopelessness -- and the true sexuality of two souls who have found each other.

The novel has everything: a beautiful, strong, smart heroine, a bright, quietly heroic, self deprecating rake, a brilliant crippled brother, an inconsiderate brother that marries a shy quiet girl with a horrific mother, a noble but boring suitor, and some great minor characters.

Georgette Heyer writes so well that reading her novels is always entertaining.

Very entertaining! Dissimilar to some of her other books, Heyer took us on a journey into some of the more scandalous part of society. Still written with the same wit and grace with an even more beautiful heroin than normal. Very diverting.
