It was delightful! I have always enjoyed Georgette Heyer's novels and this one was no exception. The protagonist's name is not really "Ajax', but you will see the relevance when you read the book. I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Georgette Heyer is always the best in the genre of Regency Historical fiction. Heyer does a wonderful job of creating charming stories and compelling characters. Great dialogue. If not at the level of Austen herself, a very commendable author. This was one of my favorites.

Heyer's heroines are always strong, but in this case it's the hero, a veritable Ajax, who shows the world who' boss! Hugo Darrancourt gets thrust into a family as the unwanted heir and surprises more than one family member with his behavior.

I'm so glad books by Georgette Heyer are available in Kindle ebooks. The price was reasonable. I've purchased 2 books by Ms. Heyer so far. Hope to see more of Ms. Heyer's books available in ebooks.

Great story, the basic premise was very believable, since the laws of inheritance of that era were very hard and fast. Only the NEXT legal male heir could step into the title wether or not he was "wanted" by the family.

Georette Heyer writes stories that are like Jane Austen stories, but easier to read. Such a fabulous author of Regency period love stories! I love every one of her books that I have read, and I have read most, if not all, of the romance ones. So nice to not have to worry about "R-rated" scenes too, because these books have none. I'd recommend this to anyone that likes Regency love stories!

I recently discovered this seminal author of Regency Romance. Love her character dialogue, descriptions and manners. I'm frankly weary of the obligatory sex scenes in contemporary Regency Romance. I can do very well without that, but I cannot do without well drawn witty characters, which Heyer produces very well. Nothing is at it seems with the leading character in this tale. Is he or is he not the uneducated dolt they expect, or he does just like playing one when it suits. Only one person thinks she sees through his charade, but she cannot determine his purpose. Read and find out. Yes, all Heyer's stories follow a formula, but the characters are so much fun, you could pick up any of the Heyer books and enjoy the read. This is NOT "serious" reading, but the light escapist entertainment I crave after a day in the real world. I plan to acquire, read and re-read many more of her books.

Heyer's writing, as always, is excellent. A pleasure to read from start to finish with interesting characters and dialogue and an plot that keeps things moving. She throws in humor, romance, and period details around and has made a really charming story. I loved it.

I enjoy regency romances, especially those written by authors who do not see the necessity of including soft porn into the story. Heyer knew how to tell a story that keeps your attention and makes you want to read more. Character development and plots are well developed and the story lines are smooth and entertaining.

Georgette Heyer has learned from Jane Austen and - dare I say it? - surpassed her with more lively dialogues, hearty humor and historic descriptions of Fashion and Customs. Every book she wrote gave me great pleasure. I even reread her books frequently.

This is classic Georgette Heyer, and I loved it. I have already read it twice in 3 months.

Especially enjoyed having it in soft copy, and was surprised at what a good experience that is. From now on, if I can buy Kindle edition of any book I want (except perhaps recipe books), that is what I shall do.

Amusing, intriguing, educational! Great characters that you care about! I have read and re-read scores of her books and love them all! I'm always so sorry to come to the end of one, as I was with this one!

Georgette Heyer was a true master at creating engaging and interesting characters, and everything about the story: the speech, clothes, politics, social norms, language etc is extremely well researched and accurate. Heyer is out of everyone else's league.
