This book is really great! It takes the classic Sherlock Holmes story of mystery, murder, and intrigue, and makes it much more digestible. The vocabulary and length have been adjusted so as to be more accessible to young readers. The flavor of the book has been very much preserved. An easy read, but not dumbed down. Good job!

Pros- easy to read, preserves original flavor and story line
Cons- content violent and may not be appropriate for the too young

Highly recommended!

Having never read anything by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle I found this book for free after watching the Sherlock Holmes movie. The story was very entertaining and I read it within a day. The remastered version read as easily as any contemporary novel. I would recommend this to anyone who has an interest in mysteries.

I had read many Holmes short stories. But this is the first time I read A Study. This novel tells the story of how Holmes and Watson met. It also is an interesting view of how Brits perceived America(ns) at the time. If you're a fan of Holmes and Watson you owe it to yourself to see how they teamed up.

Seems to be an easy read, skipping the descriptive details that I usually skip anyway. But I haven't really noticed a difference. But I would recommend it. It is along the lines of the Classic Starts children books that I really enjoy reading.

I got back into reading Sherlock Homes after seeing the new TV show. I love this story and the way it is written. It was fun to remember how Sherlock and Doctor Watson met and to see their relationship begin...It was much easier to read than the original.

Unfortunately there is no option for zero stars. I found myself wondering why someone would feel compelled to hack at a great book in order to make Mormons look better...oh right, the presidential election.

Warning! Do not buy this version. Not even for free. I recently found a real gem: a comic book version of 'A Study In Scarlet' and it was far better than this version. A comic book! Granted, it was published in the 1950's before political correctness, so this is, sadly, not so surprising. Still, in a day and age when you can see shows on television that do not shy away from graphic violence, cursing and even making fun of religion....in prime time.....on the networks no less, it's shocking to see this level of censorship of a classic novel.

I've read the preview here on the store and the other reviews, thankfully, so I've been spared the full horror of actually reading the whole thing. Consider this review a lighthouse warning you away from the rocks. Find another version of this story. Go to Project Gutenberg's website if you are looking for a free version.

Reading this was a complete waste of time. I wish I had realized that "Re-Mastered" meant someone had re-written the book. It wasn't until after I had finished the entire book and got to the section Leo Zanav wrote about what he had done to the novel that I really understood. He re-wrote it using more modern language and took out anything that might be offensive or misleading. He also dumbed it down. There were several times through-out the book that I wondered how this series became so famous while it was written so blandly. It turns out that it's Mr. Zanav that is so boring. I started the actual, "A Study in Scarlet" and found it was written better, that there is more detail, the characters have more realistic personalities, and the language is a dated - just like you would expect from a book written over a 100 years ago. Now I know to avoid the Leo Zanav versions of Doyle's work.

This first book of sherlock holmes is very nice.It introduces us to the witty character of Sherlock Holmes in a lovey manner.Though 'The Sign Of Four' is much renowned than this book but personally I liked this book more.
