A great historic tale told well and extremely entertaining. So now I am hooked on the Grail quest series. No one does better at making English history come alive for an American reader.

I am very familiar with this area of history, this story adds a welcome personal involvement and continuous thread to help visiualize that which from normal history readings has little depth of character. Thank you for a fun and informataive read.

A good friend of mine recommended this to me. At first I was skeptical, but the book really carried me along. It is a bit formulaic at times, but still a ripping good read overall. I will be getting the next book in the series soon.

I was expecting it would be like Excalibur trilogy. It was lesser. So I was a bit disappointed, but that was my own fault. It is still a very good read, and I will complete this trilogy. Bernard Cornwell is a fabulous author and a complete escape to read.

An exciting story based on actual historical battles. Once began it was hard to put the book down. This is the first time I have read a novel by Bernard Cornwell and am looking forward to my next one.

Adventuring into the history of the 1300's, the Archer' s Tale was an eye opener to the simple history we all learned as kids. Brutal war, savage revenge and simple but life sustaining spoils were not an expectation going into the book. I could not put it down. Real characters and an empathy for their experiences. Awesome, great reading for adventure seekers ... on to book two!

I have just started reading Cornwell's books recently and plan to read all of them. Archer's Tale is one of the 1st I read and I would recommend it to all that love Historical Novels. Cornwell has the ability to make the reader one with the character and novel. I feel as if I am walking along with the characters at that time.

Bernhard Cornwell combines carefully researched historical facts with his own fiction. To this is added his shrewd observation of human passions and actions, written in a clear and lucid prose which make all his historical novels eminently readable. Each can be read separately but are best enjoyed as a series. After reading, one is not only entertained but also more knowledgeable about the times of the tale. The present book, The Archer's Tale, is in this respect no better than his other writing. They are all very good!

Absolutely felt like a member of the English archers fighting for my king and my share of loot, love, and/or advancement.
The added intrigue of family secrets and holy relics only put icing on a very delicious tale of the hardships of fighting men of the day.
Can't wait to dig into the next tome in the series.

I usually prefer American Historical fiction. I happened on one of Mr. Cornell's books when the store suggested it to my reading list. Now I have read several of his books and can't wait to read the next book in this series. His books are just so darn good!!!
