Each story could stand alone, but if you read each story from the first to the last, it makes it easier to connect with the characters. The stories could be read by mid-teenagers and they would enjoy them, but as an adult, I was able to read into the story lines about life and how humans treat each other. I really enjoyed these books.

It was fun reading these books yet again. The word with its call to imagination is more powerful than even the must well crafted and spectacular film. (The Movie is fine but pales next to the book.). I enjoyed the Newbery acceptance speech at the end. These books help me remember the gift of being a child.

I had trouble getting into this book. I love Alice in Wonderland, Harry Potter, etc. so I have no problem with fantasy. But in this case, the author is jumbling so many concepts together that I often found the stories forced and incoherent. Even in a fantasy book, the prose must take you into the author's world and keep you there for the duration of the story. Too often I felt a suspension of belief when Einstein's Theory got mixed up with unicorns, foreign language lessons and Christianity. I suppose you could argue that a child could more readily suspend their disbelief and buy into the story line but I disagree. The very best children's story are always just as wonderful for the adult as the child. I never underestimate the intelligence of children. The last story about the Druids was excellent and coherent.

I really like Madeleine L'Engle's work. And these are some of the best stories. I get to follow a family as the kids grow up and begin their own adventures.

I was first introduced to A Wrinkle in Time in 4th grade... it is as awesome now as it was then. And still fires my imagination. Fantasy at it's best !

Great reads at any age. The adventures of Meg , Calvin, Charles Wallace, and the twins are a fantastic, captivating blend of science, spiritualism, adventure, and romance. They are great reads for both young and older adults. If you've never read them, you have a wonderful experience waiting for you. If you have read them, you know that they fall into that rare class of books that deserve to be read and rediscovered over and over.

Madeleine L'Engle was an author that was extraordinarily brilliant. One of her main characters, Charles Wallace, is a child on the autism spectrum. She wrote about his unusual gifts & thinking style way before anyone knew of Asperger's. I was pleased that L'Engle was able to weave a complex story of the problem with Charles's mitochondria in such an understandable way for both kids and adults. Indeed, I was shocked after researching mitochondria that there is a scientific link between this and autism & this author penned these books in the 1960's! Every child should be exposed to A Wrinkle in Time & the other novels. It teaches children and adults to respect, appreciate and include others who may appear slightly different. Simply outstanding!

The books were very well shape when arrived none of the pages for bant they were delivered electronically we still haven't received the hard copy yet that we paid for but I'm assuming they're coming soon it's been 25 days I'm giving a 5-star rating because we bought them in paperback and we have only received them digitally I'm hoping the store's going to rectify that soon

This is a challenging read for most younger children. Read it to them though - and they will love it! My son is rereading it now that he is older. There are some challenge words in here, but the book is well thought through and the amazing bonds of family prevail. The box set is well constructed (sometimes the box is flimsy - this is not). My son cannot wait to read the rest of the series.

These are some of my favorite stores from my childhood. I bought the set to give to my 12 year old brother as a gift. He was over the moon to get a whole new set of stories he'd never read before. He's especially excited because I love them so much. I think I need to order a set for myself and read them all again!

This book is sci-fi without space ships. There are no super sized bugs, no deflector dishes, no empires.

Meg's father disappeared while performing some experiment. Meg and her family now live in a small town, missing him terribly.

Meg, a typical and awkward 14 year old girl, struggles with life as a result.

With the help of three wonderful "ladies," she and her brother and boyfriend will journey to rescue her father.

And it all started with "It was a dark and stormy night..."

I purchased this set for my daughter, as she received the second book as a gift from a friend as wanted to read the entire series. Needless to say she has finished the set and thinks it was great! I can say that I too read the second book and enjoyed it! Now that she is done, I can finish the series as well :)

This set included 2 books I had not read before - An Acceptable Time, and Many Waters. I purchased this for my almost 9 year old girl. Many Waters has themes in it that she was not ready for (allusions regarding sex) but Acceptable Time was a fantastic read. All in all, I would purchase again but read through the two titles listed above if you are unfamiliar with them, to be sure your child is ready for it.

I've always been enthralled by the universe, space travel, and it all started when I read "A Wrinkle in Time" back in the 80s. Great for children with of all ages. Now I have the chance to read books 2-5.

Maadelene L'Engle charming set of 5 wonderful filled stories that took over several decades to finish writing about Megan Muffey O'Keefe and her family are charming and relevant today as it was when first written. I was a teenager when I first read A wrinkle in Time. And I loved the story of Meg Muffrey and Charles Wallace Muffrey and there friend Calvin O'Keefe trying with the help of Mrs What, Mrs Which and Mrs Who trying to bring back Mr. Muffrey from another world that was caught behind a black cloud of badness of sorts. And they had to wrinkle time to get there. It was a wonderful story. And only the first of the 5 books. The second The Wind at the door deals with Charles Wallace and Megan and Calvin and Mr. Jenkins the school Principle The Third book is Swiftly Tilting Planet which came out in my early to mid 20's and I am 53 years old. I did get a copy of it soon after it came out and loved it. It may have come out earlier and I didn't notice it. But I love re-reading the series in my early 20;s and all there was, was the trilogy. In my 30's she polished Many Waters which I jumped on and read. This time it stared the brothers of Meg, Dennis and Sandy in a past time adventure. It was awesome as well. And it rocked my well as all her stories had. I am not sure when she wrote An Acceptable Time. I haven't gotten around to reading it yet but I am looking forward to her rocking my world again!
