Great book! I really enjoyed the romance between the characters, as well as the tight bond that the Breed has. The back story is also very interesting! If you enjoy vampire romances, I definitely recommend this!

I have just finished reading the TrueBlood series and figured while I was waiting on the new one to come out I would find a new series to get into. I love this series so far. I bought the first 4 books in the series and have not been able to put them down. I wasn't sure about how each book switchs to a differant couple, but I really liked it cause it gives you a fresh new love story with each book, yet the characters from the previous books are also there for you to look in on. I am very pleased with her fresh new take on the background story of how Vampires came to be on this earth. Very glad that I chose this series.

Refreshingly closer to JD Ward's and Amanda Ashley's material. Has the dark brooding hard core male warrior and the damaged independant female role. Also contains a intense brotherhood among the modern day vampire warriors and infighting with various sections of their breed. This novel creatively brings the other members of the team in for a smooth transition into the next novel. Contains copious amounts of sexual tension. Was a good read and kept my attention through out the entire book.

I just recently discovered this series and author. I actually had to go backwards to read book 1. Although all the books are connected in characters and situation, you can easily follow any one book and enjoy it. Lara Adrian's descriptive writing style pulls you into the story so that you can actually see the settings and characters. The only draw back is you don't want to put it down so you stay up late to finish it!

I actually picked up this book because one of the reviews said it was similar to BDB.. Well it's not. The only similarities to me were there are vampires and women. Totally different vibe. Not as good, but not bad.

This is the first in the Midnight Breed series by Lara Adrian. I felt it was quite a different style of paranormal that I was used to reading. The vampires are an alien breed which I found to be a rather different type of explanation for how they came to be. The plot was good, the characters were believable. I am still having my doubts if I want to read the next in the series.

This purchase was my second copy as my paperback version was lost. Yes, it was that good that I would purchase another copy. I love this series and have all of the books, one of the best paranormal of its kind. I am anxiously awaiting the release of the next installment.

Loving these books. I accidentally started in the middle of the series by getting the fifth and eleventh book at the library. Great reading no matter what book you read, but starting at the first book everything makes more sense. Keep up the writing. Thank you for such enjoyment.

I read a lot of different reviews saying that this series was just like the Black Dagger Brotherhood.. Well I have to say yes and no...it does have some similarities but it's so different. I really enjoyed reading this book and I look forward to reading the next in the series.

Meh... read this after finishing a Kresley Cole novel... it was just OK. The story was predictable and the characters were flat. But I did finish it so that should stand for something. Doubt I'll be reading any more from this series tho.

I never actually wanted to read this series because I am a huge BDB Fan, and I thought that "Midnight Breed" was just too similar to BDB to be interesting. But my friends told me I have to read "Kiss of Midnight". And I must say, that although, there are quite alot of similarities I really enjoyed this book. Great characters and really a different story line (Can you believe that?) Word of advice: Don't compare the "Midnight Breed Vampires to the "Brotherhood", only way to enjoy the book!

Great vampire origin. I liked the overall story. I think I will pick up some more of this series. The sex scenes were done well. They were not overly graphic but still hot. The story surrounding the main characters was intriguing. Worth a read.

I was totally geared up to love this novel, having just come off reading the Black Dagger Brotherhood and Karen Moning's "Fever" series. Unfortunately I slogged through this one slower than those, and skipped more of it too. One of my biggest problems was the isolation of the heroine and how much of the novel is description of what she's doing and thinking without much interaction with other characters. That is to say there are pages of descriptive paragraphs with little to no dialogue, which is a shame because the story sets up plenty of opportunity for her to more deeply get to know the hero, his buds, their girlfriends, and the villain/s. But all of those scenes ended up feeling very clipped, especially the climax, which was pretty much blink-and-miss-it. For me, when I'm reading PR it's mostly for the characters and the moments they have together. On that front, this just didn't do it for me. I don't feel like I really know anyone after having read it, hero included (who is quite generic).

Also, there were a lot of things that made me genuinely uncomfortable about the romance, the world, and the characterizations. Some small spoilers follow:

What can be considered the first love scene is a rape where the hero performs oral sex on the heroine as she sleeps, all the while manipulating her mind so that she believes it's just an erotic dream. The wrongness of this is never addressed. Oh, and this is after he got into her mind earlier in the day so that he could "implant" the idea/order for her to leave her door unlocked so he could sneak in.

The vampire mythology itself is grating, because in this world vampires are male-only and so they must procreate with human women, who in turn only bear sons. The kicker is that the male vamps choose from only a certain subset of human women who are literally marked to show that their DNA has evolved to make them the ideal "breedmate". Not that that gives them any real power or specialness in their own right. It basically just means they're regular humans who can get pregnant by vampires and are tougher to play mind tricks on (though they ARE still susceptible).

Lastly, the author decided to make the heroine a "cutter", who does so apparently because of her unknown status as a breedmate, meaning that she was "built" to give blood to her vampire man and not understanding that "did what she could". I found it personally very distasteful that a psychological issue would be used in that way, and also that the heroines would be "designed" as such. It really makes it seem as if they're just genetically encoded vampire toys (that are also used as incubators). To be fair, the relationships between the couple vampire males and their breedmates was shown to be very loving and respectful, but it just doesn't shake the undesirable setup.

All in all, I feel like this series could be a lot more enjoyable if only there was room for the heroines to have more interesting roles and interact with the other characters and vampire world more. One of the biggest strengths of something like Black Dagger Brotherhood is that you get so many great scenes with all of the intriguing vampires, the vampires act like a real family unit despite their flaws and pain, and you get to experience vampire culture (the aristocracy, the religion, the clubs and hospitals run by them, etc.). None of that can be said for "Kiss of Midnight".

Breedmate sounds suspiciously like Broodmare, and that's just what this chick is going to be. That, and the occasional midnight snack. The bad boy hero fights against his feeling for her, but in the end (doesn't it always work out this way?) her amazing personality and incredible body win him over. Oh, that and the mind blowing sex! You'd think after reading all these novels that hot, hunky, larger than life (in every sense) guys are just a dime a dozen, wouldn't you? Oh, but they'd need to be since the incredibly beautiful, talented and sexy women are everywhere, too. It wasn't a bad read, just a little on the sappy side.

This book has a good mix of action, sexiness, and even some suspense. My biggest con was the Man hero Lucan's reluctance to be with his woman Gabrielle. I know he was trying to protect her but it dragged a bit. It still was a fun read and I would recommend adding it to your vampire book collection

I recommend the midnight breed series to everyone. This is the best series ever! I have read every one of Lara Adrian's books. She captures you from the beginning to end and you can't wait for the next book.

Kiss of Midnight is the first novel in the Midnight Breed Series, a paranormal and urban fantasy series set in the present day, and near future, in the New England area. I would rate it a 3.5, or a 7, because the individual story told in this book was enjoyable, but I was really fascinated by the fictitious world it introduced. This world intrigued me enough to get me to continue onto the second book of the series, which I thoroughly enjoyed, and I have now fallen in love with the larger series and characters. In that regard, this book is necessary to set up the larger arcing series storylines and to understand the driving forces of many of the main series characters.
Lara’s voice is very descriptive and the paranormal world she reveals to be lurking under Boston’s human club scene is full of intrigue, suspense and mystery. She has taken a very unique and fascinating twist on vampire mythology to create an exceptional new world.
The hero, Lucan, is one of the oldest Breed warriors and has been living outside of both the Breed and Human societies, hunting and exterminating the most evil of the Breed who hunt and kill humans indiscriminately and have given rise to the human vampire myths. I found him somewhat hard to understand and connect with as a character, as far as individual character growth he seemed to be very resistant to any change and then suddenly realized he did love the heroine and so could do now embrace all the changes he resisted. I would have like to understand a bit more why his self-control was such to allow the change at the point it did when he didn’t want to allow the change earlier in the story and could resist her before. The heronine was supposed to be the angst ridden artist and the author did a good job portraying this, at time too good because I got slightly annoyed with her at times. This confusion made the individual love story less enjoyable for me, but I still liked the story and will likely reread it at some point as part of the larger series arc.
Overall Lara Adrian created an interesting series of mythology to captivate my interests in this Urban Fantasy series. As the first book in a thoroughly enjoyable series I will most likely reread this book again.
