Good read, Gideon is a character you can relate to, the authors are proven quality.
Not going to waste your time with plot details and my personal opinions, just want to say open it up and start reading, it's a goodun !.

This was awful. The basic plot was acceptable, as opposed to good, but the actual writing was horrible. The Perdergast novels show class and style, while this one appears to have been written by a talented high school student. Plotwise, the story is overly-convoluted without actually being mysterious. The dialogue is some of the worst I've ever read, and the insertion of sound effects is equally crappy. This reads like a James Rollins book (adventurous, but BAD writing), and I really suspect that this was ghost written by someone else. I don't know which of these two "authors" has a child who is trying to be a writer, but they aren't doing us any good by propping them up in this manner. They're also not doing their fans a favor. I'm just glad I bought this used and resold it when I was done. All told, I spent about $6 on this, which was still about $4 too much.

Other reviewers mentioned needing to suspend disbelief in order for this book to work, but honestly, isn't that kind of a given with these guys? You can't tell me that Relic was 100% believable. It is not necessarily the subject matter that makes Preston & Child so good at what they do, it is the journey they take their readers on. No, the Gideon books are not this duo's best, but they are still readable. I agree, this is the better of the two, but don't pass on a Preston/Child book just because it isn't believable.

Good read and easy. Disappointed that writers entered the mainstream of current writers whose basic plot is that there is only one person in world who can save it from some disaster and it is a 'lone wolf' type of American. This is selling a lot of books, but no better and in some cases not as good as some of the the other writers. This style will sell books, but not create a nich cut out from the herd, nor attract new fans..
