Douglas Preston is one of the best hard science fiction writers in the business. The plot and concepts are very original although the characters are kind of standard issue. Definitely looking forward to the sequel.

A pleasant evening's read. The deeper question of consciosness and ethical awakening add spice to the conflict of good guys and bad guys. Dorothy is suitably lovable even if the bad guys are a bit over the top.
It seems likely that the challenge of A.I. will be more than the premise of an adventure story in the near future. We can only hope that the real event is as curious about ethics and meaning as Dorothy.

I didn't even finish this one. The background subject is investing, which bores me to tears, so I didn't get very far. Of course, if you like investing, you might enjoy it. I should have looked further before I bought it.
Soul Harvest (Left Behind, No. 4) :: Shroud for a Nightingale (Adam Dalgliesh Mysteries Book 4) :: With Every Letter (Wings of the Nightingale Book #1) :: Powerless :: A Gideon Crew Novel (Gideon Crew series) - Beyond the Ice Limit

This author has done some serious thinking about what lives within the body and the power associated with whatever it is. The story line is intriguing, the action only a tad over done, but the paths one's mind might travel are worth the read.

So well written. The plot unfolded with amazing believable, and enough scientific and computer jargon to satisfy the techie reader. The weaving of the various plots was done with page turning excitement. The cyber world Dorothy found was imaginative and vivid. But bringing in the Bible as the arbitrator of human morals was a stretch. Considering the murder, mayhem and strife inflicted by a vengeful God and assorted mortals behaving badly, how could Dorothy interpret Jesus as the good guy? It's the book's only flaw because it assumes the reader is familiar with Christianity and believes the Bible has transformative properties.

The concept and story were interesting and somewhat beleivable. Made you really think about how much computer technology there is and how much we rely on it and the what if things go wrong...... I would recommend this to anyone who likes science fiction that's grounded with a lot of science facts.

This is a Wyman Ford story. an artificial intelligence program named Dorothy escapes from the lab and runs amok causing death and destruction. I fully believe this could happen so found the story exciting and enjoyable. most of the people who should have lived did, and the ones who deserved to die did.
Dorothy starts out as a holy terror, but through her relationship with a 14 year old boy changes her attitude. he also was a very troubled person (it became difficult to not think of Dorothy as a person), and they healed each other. I would definitely recommend this book to all readers not just sci-fi buffs.
