I have a personal connection to WWII stories which we rarely see. You see my parents had a perfectly lovely and romantic wedding planned. They were married on February 14th 1942. And we were suddenly at war. WAKE UP PUBLISHERS. WWII is a very historical period and we'd like more. Set against the backdrop of the emerging need for nurses, by 1942 a very female career, a group of women are given the chance to really help. But women can be catty and often misunderstand shyness for less than kind character traits. Into this backdrop we see how letters can lead to love and how not seeing ourselves as others do can hold us back in life and in love. Read this book

Sarah Sundin is officially one of my favorite authors. She skillfully sets the scene for WWII, and populates her stories with believable, dynamic characters who grow and mature through the course of the story.

If you're tired of reading trite fiction, and long for a satisfying story that will fully engage you, get this book.

Book Seller sent the item very quickly and it was carefully packaged. I am very pleased that it's now on my shelf !!! I'm pleased to have another book by Sarah Sundin, one of my favorite authors !
Sarah did an excellent job explaining how Lt. Mellie Blake was able to succeed in the military in spite of being a nonconformist. Lt. Tom MacGilliver was also a very complex character, and Sarah weaved their stories together in a very interesting manner!

I was totally spellbound by this book! A history buff born in 1942, Sundin drew me in and held me captive through her interweaving the tales of World Eat 2 and the love story of these two beautiful probe who always saw themselves as unloved. While not all war romances had a happy ending, I am delighted that Tom and his precious Lady did. Thank you.

I loved the story and the historical details woven so well through the book. The lives of two people who never had any intention to allow anyone to emotionally wound them, keep the reader wondering how the story will end. It is a testimony that with God, all things are possible!

The author really did her research on the war because every chapter on Tom had me experiencing the scenes right alongside his platoon! And OH the romance! I absolutely loved the letters written by 'Annie and Ernest' and the entire storyline had me wishing that this book didn't have to end!

The setting is WWII dealing with a nurse with low self esteem and an engineer who also battles low self esteem, but in different ways. These two people see themselves as a product of their environment and seem unable to change what they have come from. The book moves along as the people grow and change throughout the book to become what what the Lord would want.

I loved the characters....they were believable, vulnerable in certain situations, but also strong. I really could identify with them. The storyline of anonymous letters was fascinating and the resulting love that blossomed between Mellie and Tom was absolutely beautiful. Lovely Christian themed romance set in a historical background!

Another amazing story by Sarah Sundin, set in World War II, bringing insight into what it must have been like to be one of the first air evacuation nurses thrust into a man's world of war. Painfully shy, Mellie Blake connects with equally socially inadept Lieutenant Tom MacGilliver through anonymous letters, allowing them to get to know each other through the trials of war.

This was an enjoyable escape into a different time and place, looking at love between two young people during WWII. Both individuals suffered from some social skill difficulties, but when anonymous letter writing became a part of their lives, they opened their hearts to each other, believing they would never meet. Thou can guess the rest of the story.

I really enjoyed this book. First, it is set during World War II, which is an era I find fascinating. Second, the writing just moves you along and keeps you guessing as to what comes next. Sarah Sundin does a great job bringing her characters to life. You root for the good guys and shake your fist at the bad guys.

I chose this rating because the book is incredible. The way that Sarah Sundin draws you in and makes you feel like you're part of the story blows me away. I wish that I could write like she does. I love Tom's reaction when Mellie tells him that she's been praying for him for years. I think that was a huge encouragement to him. I also love how she reveals herself at the end of the novel. His reaction is priceless. I would recommend this book to everyone I know, whether they like to read or not.

I've become hesitant about these free books, because some of them are rife with grammatical errors that confuse the reader or just plain irritate me. This book is different.
This story is well written, and I am sorry it ended.

This is a great book! Not only are the characters real flawed people who earn respect and admiration, but the storyline is totally engaging as is the wartime situation and the wonderful nurses who pioneered with the first medivac airlift of wounded soldiers. All this a truly touching love story.

I loved this book. It is so straight forward and tells of service men and women nurses during war times and how they deal with love, combat and personal issues. Sexual content is mild in a nice way Makes you smile. Some things bring tears to your eyes, but it is a wonderful read. Hope you all enjoy. Paa

The story was great! I loved the character development and storyline. It was very refreshing to read a story where the love grew from getting to know each other and not their appearances.
I gave 4 stars because I did skip some paragraphs that had too much mundane detail (or I felt they were superfluous). The constant military references were great for authenticity but as a non-military person it could get hard to process.
I would absolutely read another book by this author.

Sarah Sundin has written another winner! I've read some of her other books and loved them. This book did not fail to draw me in. The plot is addicting, the characters are lovable, and the setting is romantic...Yes, war can be romantic. And there's even a dog! I highly recommend this book and I can't wait to read the second book in the series.

Sarah Sundin crafts a story that is exceptional in every way. The writing is exemplary, the story line about WW2 filled with interesting facts, the characters are believable with their emotions and problems, and the Bible quotes are well placed and accurate. This book was a delight to read!

This was a great, chaste love story. Who knew what an anonymous letter would do? Alice and Ethan.....the "inner" person is as important as the "outer", if not more so. Thank you for writing this godly story! I will recommend it to all my friends and family. I look forward to more books like this.

Interesting story. I'm not WWII expert, but it seems the author did significant research to add accurate wartime details. Was a bit drawn out at the end as the main character waffled over her decision of whether or not to move forward with the "reveal."

God is in control, even during the worst moments in our lives, even war. Sarah Sundin does an excellent job of showing this with in-depth characters with real life problems who learn to trust His wisdom and guidance and find blessings greater than they could have ever imagined.

I enjoyed the insight as well as the romance. The author allowed me to contemplate on the difficulty some men would experience in battle between their hearts and their minds. I also could relate to the characters struggle with rejection. I will definitely be reading more of her novels.

The story filled with so much military detail almost LOST my interest before chapter 14. After that chapter I was hooked on the romance connection. The yoyo from chapter to chapter may have been necessary to help the reader understand the characters, but I found it distracting.

Another good book by a very good author. It takes place during WWII, one of my favorite times for a historical novel. There is a lot of information about the war as well as an unusual love story. I recommend this book to you if you like historical novels during WWII time period.

I was not immediately swept into this book. I felt bogged down with too many details and a long list of characters. About half way through the book I became engaged with the storyline as the book really started to flow.

The realistic characters were written with a lot of depth having many flaws and problems. Mellie Blake, a flight nurse in WWII, and Lieutenant Tom MacGilliver, an engineer in charge of constructing air strips, agree to an anonymous letter writing campaign as a morale building program. Tom and Mellie begin sharing parts of their past that have never been revealed with anyone else and as a result a relationship soon develops. Mellie has been rejected all her life and friendless, being shy and never smiling. Being a competent and caring nurse isn't enough - she has to overcome her shyness. Tom has deep secrets in his past - he is the son of a notorious convicted murderer. He's very warm and caring, but just can't get beyond the sins of his father.

This is a captivating story about a powerful friendship that develops through letter writing that grows into more than friendship and overcomes a myriad of obstacles. The story also has a strong message of faith, forgiveness, and redemption. My favorite part of the book was the beautifully written ending - just sublime. Also, a lot of good rich historical details.

This was a different sort of wartime romance where both parties were in high risk positions, but in different areas. I loved that they helped each other grow while still not knowing who the other one was or what they were truly facing. It also handled how their faith affected their lives and their relationship, as well as their issues, and they both finally were able to balance their life and their faith.

I truly enjoyed this book. The main characters were so engaging and personal. I liked the secrecy between them. It kept it exciting. I loved the ending. The way God was praised and how the people lived their lives trusting Him was awesome. A great book for any age.

WW II stories attract me , and when they combine elements I'm familiar with, like pharmacy and old classic movies with real deep heart issues and biblical answers, they draw me in even more. This was my first Sarah Sundin book, and now I can't wait to read more.

An I interesting plot/story formation. I loved the wartime historical aspect to the framework of this story. Well written, narrative was easy, believable. You felt one with the characters thoughts and feelings. Faith, biblical verse, forgiveness shown for others and in themselves was wonderful.

My parents told many stories about WWII and I have loved reading about it for years. This one had plenty of romance as well as facts about the nurses and the engineers. I don't know if the story was completely factual but it was very entertaining and clean.

This was a great book. I loved learning about the Engineering part of the war. Something I knew little about. Having family member who served over seas during WWII, made this one all the more alive. Great mysterious love story that just kept on going and going. I highly recommend this nice novel.

The premise was intriguing. I wanted to enjoy the book, but when it takes multiple chapters to cover little more than the initial hook... I got very tired of being hit over the head with extreme examples of how the poor, whiny lead characters are persecuted by the annoying people around them. If this happens to be realistic to someone else's experience and worldview, I am so sorry. I like to think better of the world.

What a wonderful story. The author brought the characters to life. I felt I was right there with them in the middle of WW2. It was great how the author brought scriptures into storylines. I'm looking forward to reading all of this authors books.

Mellie, a World War II flight nurse, agrees to write to a soldier to boost morale during the war. Their anonymous correspondence turns into a friendship, though they have never met. Both have a past that they do not wish to reveal. I thought this book was excellent and it is on my keeper shelf, as are the other books by this author.

What a wonderful story! Sarah Sundin has quickly become one of my favorite writers. Her characters are realistic, deep, and believable. Even challenging the readers' Christian walk. I appreciate her practical examples of a real walk with God and the creative way she weaves the Word into her stories. Highly recommend this book!

Part Shop Around the Corner and part Cherry Ames Flight Nurse, With Every Letter tells the story of two lonely people who find love--even though they haven't met face-to-face.

Set during World War II, the story focuses on Lt. Mellie Blake, a young woman supporting the war effort as a flight nurse, and Lt. Tom MacGilliver, an engineer doing his duty in North Africa. Though these two are brave and competent before their coworkers, they are both guarding inner vulnerabilities resulting from painful rejections in their pasts.

Mellie and Tom have learned the hard way to hide who they really are. Each believes he/she will never find that special someone who will cherish unconditionally. But even so, as anonymous pen pals, they pour out their hearts to each other. Though each can only imagine what the other looks like, with every letter they write, Tom and Mellie fall more and more deeply in love. When the time comes for them to meet, they must risk revealing all. Is their faith strong enough to see them through? . . . I could tell, but that would spoil it for you!

As I've said before, I should have been born in the 40′s. I love the clothes, the music, the movies. And whenever I want to make a quick visit to this time period, I know I can count on author Sarah Sundin to take me there. Her latest novel reminds me of several classics: Of course, The Shop Around the Corner, where Jimmy Stewart woos his sweetheart as her secret pen pal. Also, So Proudly We Hail, a movie about nurses serving in the South Pacific, and Cherry Ames, Flight Nurse, a favorite book from my childhood. Thanks, Sarah, not only for bringing to mind such great old stories but also for providing another wonderful drama to add to my growing list of '40′s favorites!

I enjoyed this Book because it showed what the world was like during World war II for women, not just nurses, but all women. It also gave insight into how women were perceived and what they had to do to overcome this stereotypical view.

I enjoyed this book. However, because the background of military and demographic jargon, which does not interest me, I will have to say I did skim over portions of the book. It is a good romance book. Most importantly, it is Faith based.

I really like reading historical fiction. This is set in an area and time period that I do not know well, so was especially interesting. Good character building and several sub plots made it hard to put down. Really enjoyed this book.
