Veralidaine Sarrasri, commonly called Daine, receives a cry for help from the wolves of the Long Lake Pack. They tell Daine about the tree-cutting and awful amount of noise that is scaring away all of the prey in Dunlath Valley. When Daine and Numair finally arrive in Dunlath, they realize that there is much more going on then that. They find out that Lady Yolane and Tristan, Numair's old classmate, are planning something that will jeopardize Queen Thayet's throne.
In the second book of The Immortals series, Daine learns many new things that she can do with her magic. Accompanied by Kitten and her faithful horse, Cloud, Daine makes new friends, some of which are human, and some, which are immortals. Daine's personality is also evolving, and this book is more personal since we learn more about Daine's thoughts and feelings. Animal and Tamora Pierce lovers, this book is for you!

So many Tammy P fans seem to dislike this, and I can't work out why. this and The Emperor Mage are my favourites of the series - and some of my favourites of her books. I don't really know what to say. how can someone who likes the other books hate this? It has all the good elements from them I can think of.
Her writing, to me, is at some of its best of the series here. The new characters were great. I love the way Tammy really thinks about consequences and influences to her characters, doesn't just say, "llok at this character, isn't he an extrovert? Isn't he fun?" like a certain author of Harry Potter books. Poor Brokefang is struggling to deal with Daine's legacy, and the pack have a slightly eerie edge occasionally of human-ness. T'kaa appears as well: bonus.
All in all, ignore advice to read this book! You might not like it after all (Mithros knows why), but how will you know if you don't try? I tried it and loved it.

Daine is still Numair's student and as she travels she meets her old friends...they're not humans, they're wolves. A wolf pack that's in danger. Daine answers their call for help and when she reaches the trouble she knows that it's not only the animals in danger but people are in danger too. Dunlath's rulers are discovering black opals and are trying to get them. They want the power to kill King Jonathon whom is the ruler of Tortall. Daine must stop them...until it's too late.

This book is an exciting sequal to the 'Wild Magic' book and is filled with adventure and magic. I'm sure almost everybody will enjoy this book. Tamora Pierce has created yet another masterpiece and is one of my favorites. I truly wish I could rate this book a 10.

Wolf Speaker is a book that I liked a lot. It showed the plight of the wolves that lived at Long Lake excellently. Daine, with Kitten and Numair on her side, finds herself fighting the humans of Dunlath at the request of the animal gods and her own wolf pack. The humans are destroying the valley and enslaving innocent immortals. This book introduces the wolves who helped to revenge the deaths of Daine's family in greater death, and also introduces the basilisk, Tkaa.
Tamora Pierce created another brilliant novel in Wolf Speaker, and a great second book in the Immortals series. I loved this book and would recommend it to anyone who liked Wild Magic. This book is especially great for wolf and animal lovers.

This book was GREAT!!!! It's my favorite Tamora Pierce book. I really liked the excitment, and animal contact, as well as new immortals, new enimies, and a suspicious Emperor(my words for suspicious are: bad, mean, enemy, hidious, horrible, and responsible for the trouble in Dunlath). I really liked Maura. I liked her ambition against Yolen and Tristan, stubborness, and courage for running away.I also thought that Scrap and Kitten were really cute and that the Badger gave Scrap a new life(it was really happy too)
Reccomended Books: Song of the Lioness Series, the rest of the Immortals Series, the Protector of the Small series, Young Royals series, Dear America, Royal Diaries, and Daughters of the Moon.

Trouble is stirring in the kingdom and Daine and her teacher Numair go to investigate, when they do they uncover a scam, a plotting and evil, Daine has to find a way to help but finds it challenging when her teacher has to leave to get help, Daine can handle that but it becomes difficult when she gains a new power which she doesn't seem to understand till later but you'd think that's enough till the little sister of the lady whose doing all this runs away and accidentally finds Daine. And to make it worse, her wolf friends keep putting themselves in danger to stop the destruction there, how could it go from a cry for help to all of this? How will Daine ever do this all? Read it and find out and if your not satisfied with this book read the other two, "Emperor mage" and my personal favorite "In the Realms of the Gods" don't hesitate to get this book its another Tamora Pierce classic. You will defiantly enjoy it.

This is was my first (and so far only) Tamora Pierce book I've read, and despite what I've heard, I can't say I particuarly like her writing style, it's not bad, but not my favorite. A girl named Daine heds a call for help by the Lone Lake Wolf Pack, who, as far as I understand it, she used to live with. When she gets there however, she finds a dark sceme much larger than she ever would have ever imagened. Daine had all the qualifications of a good character, but for some reason I never felt connected to her or the story. I'm not really sure why that is. I would have given it 3 and a half stars if I'd had the option, I've talked to alot of people who do really like it, but personnaly, I'd recommened the Avalon Web of Magic/Quest for Magic series (by Rachel Roberts) or the Silverwing sequence (by Kenneth Oppel) instead. Wolf Speaker - good, but not great.

Daine is going back to the wolves that helped her, but this time its Daine that gets to do the helping, the lone lake pack is concerned about human activities in thier new home. when Daine arives the problems get bigger, she ad her teacher (Numair) are seperated by a gaint bubble. Daine is once again visited by the badger, and learns about a startiling new skill. Daine uses it to help the wolves, but ends up endangering a few animals too. The stormwings are back, and helping the people who are ruining the Long Lake area. Daine knows theres something odd about the digging and deforesting, but what?

This was a really good book. The plot was suspensful and great. Also, the characters were very well developed. I recommend this book to anyone who likes fantasy, adventure, and animal-talking books. This book can also be recommended to people who like wolves. It is about this girl, Daine, who receives urgent call from her wolve friends to come and help them stop humans from destroying their home, but there is much more to it than that. Pick up this book today if you can, but you should read the first book in the series before reading this one. Any of Tamora Pierce's books are really good.

I first read this book a long time ago in middle school and I still have the full series both Lioness and the Immortals they are no joke bound with duck tape because over the last 11 years or so I have read them soo many times that they are indeed falling apart and I just had to replace my In the Realm of the Gods copy because half the book fell out. Once my kids get a little bit bigger these books will be read to them and I hope that when they get even older that they will pick up these books and read them over and over again like I did!

This was a great book! We find out more about Daine, Numair is as great as before (and we even find out more about him!), the wolves are a bit wierd bit still cool, I actually really liked Maura of Dunlath for some reason, too. Maybe it's because she's so much like me:). Well, in all, it's a great book, though all of Tamora's books are awesome and LIONESS RAMPANT STILL RULES! I don't think I liked this quartet as much as the Alanna books, but that's just because Daine is really different, and nicer, and she isn't at all like me, so it's hard to realte to her (she's more like my sister). These were awesome, and I reccomend them soooo much! By the way when I said these books weren't as good as the others, that's just my points of view, because Alanna is just the kind of person I like. These books are still better than any others, and were in no way a disappointment!

Book 2 in the Immortals series
This continues the story of Daine and Numair. Here they travel to Dunlath and meet further animals and magical creatures including some fascinating variations on the usual mythical beasts.
I have to confess this is my least favourite TP book to date although it forms an essential part of this series and introduces characters that will appear further in her later books. It also sets the scene for books 3 and 4 of the Immortals series which are much more enjoyable in my opinion.

The wolves who had taken in Daine and avenged her parents' deaths, are in trouble. Some two-leggers (A.K.A., us) are cutting down all of the trees in Dunlath Valley. They call to Daine for help, and she comes to them with Numair, Kitten (Or Skysong, the baby dragon), Cloud, Spots, and Mangle (The last three are two horses and a pony). Daine is worried about the wolf pack. Ever since she's met them, they've had, how should I say... not wolflike thoughts and ideas. Especially Brokefang, the packs leader. To not spoil the whole story --- Daine has to save the animals from something really, really bad (You know, death). But the wolf pack keeps doing not nice things! Daine acquires a new power- the ability to shapeshift and see what animals see. Perhaps this new magic will help her. Will the animals get back their forest? Will the two-leggers stop this destruction? Will Daine be able to save the day? Perhaps... [Ooh, I just gave you some forshadowing (Even if it isn't very good forshadowing)!] I gave the book five stars, because it was as good as the first book (Which I gave five stars to too). It's got animals, and magic, and... well, what doesn't it have that fantasy/animal/humor lovers don't want?

Tamora Pierce has done it again with another thrilling story. I LOVED the Lioness Quartet and the Circle of Magic Quartet was.. ok but the Immortals series is a great read bringing in more great characters and afew old ones aswell. Numair and Daine are great in this story and I was happy to see Alanna come into it aswell. It was also great to see abit more evil in this book, the villains really made the story come alive. Another witty, magical, fantastic story by Tamora Pierce.
This is a great read. U haveto try it!

This book, I have to admitt, took me time to get into, but I was quickly hooked after the first chapter!!!

I've got to say that Numair is my most favorite character. But Daine is almost a good. Daine gets lead by two wolves to long lake to help them in there struggle as woodsmen are chopping down trees and scaring the game away. Numair also meet with a long time enemy.Immortals are coming out of he Divine realms like crazy and it is up to daine to fix it with the help of the badger Kit a new friend, and Numair.

Whoever said alaskans live in igloos are wrong. Review written by an Alaskan born girl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A forrest in the Dunlath Valley. Humans have started to cut down trees. Wolves that live in the forrest go to the only human that will listen. Daine a fourteen year old girl. She is the only one that has wolf magic and the only one who can take to them. I like this book becuse at the end of a chapter it would make you want to read more. I recommend this book to the kids that like magic or other super nacherl book. If you like this things then you should check out this book right away.

Tamora Pierce, wonderfull author that she is, did it again. This was the first series of hers that I read, and I though that this book was a little bit of a let down after the first one. But I moved on and read the rest in the series, then the Alanna series, then Kel's, Aly's, and Bekas. After reading whatever I could get my hands on from her, I went back and read them all again. I was hesitant to read this one because in my mind, it had become a awfull, terrible disgrace of paper. But I did, and I was wowed. It had gotten better! I think I was to pre-ocupied with the first book to enjoy the seconed. It was better the seconed time, and I relized that it is NOT a wast of space, but a pretty darned good book in witch you learn a different side of Stormwigs, meet the wolves of the Pack, and watch Wild magic be mastered further. The plot is O.K., but I missed seeing old friends of the first book and the thrill of just meeting the main charecters and watching things just being intoduced. Over all, not my favorite, but an O.K. book.

I have read all of Tamora's books and I think the Immortals has gotta be the best quartet. Even though Wolf Speaker isn't my favorite Immortal, it is still one of my favorite books! It was cool to see how Daine was an influence on the wolves, and to see the whole new batch of enemies! And to see Daine be friends with a stormwing...I didn't know it could be possible! This is a great book, but take my advise: read Wild Magic first. I tried to read this one first and didn't know what the heck was going on.

I honestly loved this book. It brings out a sense of growing mystery and brooding evil, and gives us a glimpse at the powerful forces that Daine will be up against, and it introduces one of the best developed characters that I have ever come across- Rikash Moonsword, the stormwing. Tamora Pierce handals all her characterizations well, be they human, animmal, or immortal. I find this book to be quite a stong entry in the Immortals Quartet, and one you just cannot skip over.

Diane is called to the valley by her wolf friends who are angry because the illegal opal miners are ruining the land. As Diane and Numar, a wizard, look into the problem, they find that the miners are more than illegal, that they are doing more than ruining the homes of the animals. Fed up the animals come up with an ingenious plan to retaliate against the army, while Diane works undercover, in the castle. Read this book and find out what's going on.

This is the 2nd book of the Immortal Series. In this book, Daine and Numair travel to Dunlath valley to help a pack of wolves stop the two-leggers from chasing away the game. But the nobles who control Dunlath Valley are doing much more than chasing away game. They plan to poison Dunlath with a flesh-eating potion. Daine and Numair are separated, so Daine alone must stop the evil Trisan Staghorn and Lady Yolane from taking over Dunlath Valley.

Wolf-Speaker is definitely my favorite book in the Immortals quartet. I feel that this book is just as good as Prisoner of Azkaban or any other Harry Potter book. It captivates in it's own way. Numair, Daine, and the cast of other memorable characters are definitely the best! Great wolf book! It's like a personification except only one person can see them that way. We actually meet the first batch of truly evil people, Tristan Staghorn and his crew. Numair, the most powerful mage in all of Tortall, and Daine, the only wildmage, stop them! The magic in the Immortals quartet is a really imaginative branch of animal magic. Daine is a girl who's perfectly human, except for the fact that she has wild magic. A must read series and book for lovers of magic, wolves, magical creatures ~aka the Immortals~, and animals overall! Tamora Pierce is one of my favorite authors. Her books, including Song of the Lioness series and Protector of the Small, will captivate any reader. Beware of night-reading! You won't be able to put this book down!

In the second book of the imortals quartet daine now knows her knack is really wild magic. in wolfspeaker the pack that Daine ran with after her family was killed apeals for help. the long lake pack had to find a diffrent place to live because humans were hunting them, now humans are a threat again. i found this book delightful. There is humor but not to much and not little. this book is a must read.

Wolf Speaker, the second book in the Immortals series, is a continuation of the adventrures of Daine, a 14 year old girl capable of talking with animals. The Long Lake wolf pack, the pack that Daine ran wild with for several months prior to her discovering the fact that she could communicate with animals, has called her back for help. Someone is destroying their home, and they don't know how to stop it, and want Daine to talk the "two-leggers" (humans) and make them stop. This excellent story line ties in dozens of new characters, as well as new powers for Daine. This is an amazing book and I would recommend it to anyone.

I loved this book. Daine and Numair are going to help the Long
Lake Pack (Wolf pack) because people are digging holes and cutting trees down. When Numair and Daine go to Carthak Castle Daine goes in front of everyone in the dinning hall and asked if they would help stop it, but no one listens. After Numair goes to the King for help. When he comes back he and Daine are sepperated by a barrier. Will something happen to Numair when he is on the other side?, or will somthing happen to Daine? You find out. I thought that when Numair was on the other side it took some of the hummor away because to me I thought he was really funny.

I have always loved all of Tammy's books but this one gives you that feeling of let down after reading the first. As I say again, all of her books can and do get dippy and cheesy during some parts, but this one was just not great. It was a good book with a good story but it wasn't as great as a lot of her others---it even got boring. Recommened if you want to follow the seris, though!

I have all of Tamora's books, (except the unpublished ones,) and I have read each of them over five times. (Except Protecter of the Small: Page, because I just got it.) I have been able to compare all the books of the Immortals seies. I must say, although it gets exciting in the end, the first half of the book is not all that interesting. I love it that she discovers her power to change into animals, though. I like it when the plot unfolds, but not as much when Daine is running around in the wilderness with Brokefang and his pack. I love the new character, Tkaa, but for the sake of those who haven't read this book, I won't tell you what Tkaa is. I did like the fact that you got to meet the pack described by Daine in Wild Magic. Overall, I really like the story, but would like a bit more excitment.

this is a well writen book. daine has encaptured me with her adventures. In this book daine is helping her old pack, because people are cutting down the trees and scaring the game away. This book does not let you put it down. This book is good for young readers. This tale is very touching because of Daine's and her friends courage and detremination to keep long lake like it is.

This is a teriffic book, but it's not quite up to the standards Tamora sets for her amazing books. It had a great plot, with a lot of new Immortals and a new setting, which I liked a lot. I really enjoyed when Daine became a part of the animal she was talking to. This is a great book that I would reccommend to any fantasy lover- just as long as you read Wild Magic first!

This book is one of Tamora Pierce's best!
Iin this book Daine comes to understand the stormwings and even comes to have a sort of friendship with one of their leaders Rikash. This book is about how Daine comes to see her wolf friends Brokefang, Battle and so on, because the people are piosoning the land and soon there won't be room either 'two-leggers' or wolves

This a wonderful book where exciting things happen. Not at all the worst of Tamora Pierces books. Daine and Numair travel to Dunlath valley where Daine discovers more of her magical powers, and helps her friends, the wolves. When she pays a visit to Dunlath palace she meets Lady Maura of Dunlath. If you want to find out the rest, you have to read the book.

The book, Wolf-Speaker, in the Immortals series, is a wonderful book. It is about a girl named Daine, 14, and a mage, her teacher, Numair, 30, who live in the time period with King Jonathan III, and Queen Thayet. The world is invaded with immortal creatures, such as dragons and Stormwings. Daine can mind-speak with animals using her Wild Magic. In the 2nd book in this series, Wolf-Speaker, Numair, their 2 horses, Spots and Mangle, her pony, Cloud, her dragon, Skysong or Kitten, and she go to heed the wolves of the Long Lake Pack's cry for help. People in Dunlath Valley are cutting down trees and turning the peaceful valley into a nightmare. She and Numair find out the awful plan Tristan (Numair's old mage school classmate) and Lady Yolane of Dunlath have for Dunlath Valley. Read this book and find out the excellent ending. Wolf lovers, like myself, will love this book.

This book is the worst in the whole quartet, but it is still an excellent book. If you have read Wild Magic, you must read it. In it, Daine develops as a more rounded character, as do Numair, and Kitten. Daine's ability grows and further plots of Ozorne and Carthaki are revealed. If you plan on reding the next two books, this one is a must.

The Immortals series is one of my favorite series of all time. It's completely unique, and has wonderful fantasy elements. Tammy also does a great job at making the characters, settings, and dialogue realsitic, and the events are very beleivable because they are based on actual European history. A great read, especially for teens.

I think that this is one of the greatest books that I have read. I love this book so much (this includes the series) that I have read it more than 10 times. In this book Diane goes to help the wolfs that helped her avenge her mother's death because the valley of Dunlath are cutting down trees and scaring all the game away. When they suddenly have to leave in the middle of the night, Diane disides to stay with the wolfs and help them out. Numair goes to warn the king and when he gets back there is a barrier in between them. Then they find out that there is a model of the valley some where in the castle Diane has to go and find it.

Wolf-Speaker was an enjoyable book. I liked reading about the events and the travels, but then and again, I'm the one who finds newspapers interesting. (Unlike most people my age) However, Wolf-Speaker was an enjoyable book (nothing special, like most books), not a moving one. There were several flaws.

Flaw number one is that Daine is a freaking Mary Sue. (A person with no flaws and many stereotypical traits) She scored 40 (very high) on the Universal Mary Sue Litmus test. Maybe it was the whole "Wow! I can speak to animals and I am an orphan" thing that threw me off. Of course, having those traits would make you exalted, so much that no one except for the villains would actually dislike you.

Another thing is that there was about no action until the very last two chapters. And even with the action, the problem is solved too easily, leaving us with a Deus-Ex-Machina ending.

Before you say, "Harry Potter always has Deus-Ex-Machina endings and it's a good book!" let me tell you that Harry Potter is about this semi-normal boy trying to get through schools, with far more complications than the main villain itself. The only problem in the book other than the main one is that they are running away from someone trying not to be killed while they wait for help. That never seems to be a real problem, as all of the good characters stay far away civilization without much complaint.

All in all, Wolf-Speaker is an okay book, with its fair share of passive action (>_> <_<, which is when people are doing things, but nothing exciting) and likeable characters. If Pierce only made Daine less Mary-Sueish (As far as I can tell, she has no faults) and made a bit more of active action (when people are actually doing things), it could've been better. Until my next review, see you later! ^_~

Daine, who has a gift for speaking to animals, begins an adventure when she heeds a cry for help...from wolves! Daine is faced with challenges, like dealing with her magic. More importantly, though, she is faced with the neccesity to have people-skills she never needed in the wild. Great story!

As Daine learns more about herself and her wild magic, she has to deal with a situation that could cost the lives of many people and even more animals. Some bits seem a little too easy or convenient but most of the story is well told. I enjoyed seeing Daine's interaction with many different types of animals.

Like I said, sort of okay. Frankly, I was bored. Some parts are pretty good, but it's not consistant. Plus, Daine's friend Maura REALLY got on my nerves after a while. And it's a disapointment about the monsters called Stormwings. In the first book, they are horrible, sickening monsters that seem straight from heck, and in this one, they seem friendly and kind.

but wolves and horses are my favorite characters by far. By reading this enchanting book that is the followup to wild magic i was once again brought into the magical world with diane. How DOES she manage it? if you liked wild magic you will love this one especially if you love wolves. This is definitely a wonderful book!

I really liked this book, it was entertaining, a tad predictable but each book has it's ups and downs, the characters are made in a very realistic way and although there are a lot of them you can keep their varying personality separate from each other

About the only complaint is that the book has some misspellings and other grammatical errors that even I picked up on (I fail at language arts....)

Great book overall though

This is the most boring book in the whole entire Immortals Series. The book dragged on and on and on...After finishing the series, I don't even think I needed to bother reading this book. Daine helps her wolf friends and Numair turns some mage into an apple tree. She also discovers some new ability or advancement in her wild magic. That about synopsizes the entire book. I've read All of Tamora Pierce's books and I can definitely say that this book was the worst out of all of her books that I've read. It lacked excitement and adventure. It's the only book of hers that I haven't read twice.

This book is a great read for any aged fan of animals and fantasy adventure, especially if you're female. Even though this is the second book in a series, it can also be a stand alone story. Although these books are meant for young girls, I am a 37-year old mother of four and I just LOVE reading Tamora Pierce's stories. They are so full of strength and action which is encouraging to young ladies. I can't wait to read more!

I loved this book! I don't know which is better this or Wild Magic. I thought Kitten was cute and really funny! I also raelly liked Tkaa and the wolves. Although there are two reasons I was dissapointed, the first is it really did not talk much about horses which I love and Kally, Onua, Thyat and many chracters from Wild Migic were not in this book. To Ralph Day- Quickamunch is a marmot :)

OK< I have to admit,I thought I'd like Wild Magic better than Wolf Speaker, because I love horses. But this one is better...Daine gets a new grasp on her wild magic, and I love the setting, peaceful (or formerly peaceful) Dunlath Valley. My favorite part was all the animals (wolves, ponies, bats, um, was Quickmunch a hedgehog?). So if you love animals, pick up this one! (After, of course, having read Alanna's series, and Wild Magic.)

The Immortals series was a good follow up, though I read it last, rather than second. I liked the way Tamora included the ALanna theme, Tortall etc. I especially enjoyed Daine's growing crush on Jon! A very good book, like the Winding Circle series, it focuses largely on magic, though in this quartet more the Wild Magic that Daine posesses over the GIft of Numair..

This series was a nice surprise for me, lent to me by my best friend. This, the second in the series, proved just as well-written and engrossing as the first. I am fascinated by the character development in the series, and am anxious to finish reading.

If you've read the first one, read this one! It's a great continuation where Daine learns more about her powers and meets a lot of new animals. If you haven't read the first one, read that one, too, and make sure to read the rest of this series too^_^

This book kept me on edge. It is an absolutely wonderful book and I think the entire series itself was great. It made me leave this world and go into Daine's world. I wish that the series wasn't over, because I want to read about more of the adventures of Daine.
