Dream Dark really helps you fully grasp what is going on with Link after John bites him. How everything is changing for him, and his mom is freaking out. Its a little short, but you really understand whats happening. If you don't like cliffhangers that are never completed howerer, the book may not be the buy you should do.

Good book it was enjoyable and it was interesting to be inside links head, even though it was unfortunately only for like a few chapters. Don't buy :( unless you're hardcore fan. Not enough story line, really. Half the book was Beautiful Chaos.

I thought it was interesting to get a little peek into what Link is going through. Even though its just the beginning stages of his transformation, it does provide a tiny look into where the next books in the series will go.

Review: 5 x 5 !!
I love this series, I get lost in the world these ladies have created. I am glad I got this story as It is about Link(and who doesn't *heart* Link??). Link is changing and someone is seeing him through it!! Of course everything is now broken and he is getting thrown in the mix. This is a must read for those who read the series, if you haven't yet picked up Beautiful Creatures and Beautiful Darkness... do it NOW!

I don't think I would buy this if given the chance again. Very short. It seemed like the author didn't want to create a whole story line as detailed as it could have been. I felt like I was reading something that K. Garcia didn't want to write but was forced to. I loved the other books, truely--but was so disappointed with this one.

When I ordered this I knew that it was short but I was not expecting it to be this short. I read it in one short sitting. I have read the other books and love them but I don't think this was worth the two dollars at all.

Is there anyway to rate a book less than 1 star?

Yes, this is how disappointed I was with this book. I feel seriously ripped off, as the "book" isn't worth the 2 dollars it costs.

The story is only like 2 or 3 chapters long, and they are not even that good/interesting. THAT IS IT. The rest is a "sneak peak" from the third installment which actually accomplished something: convince me to NOT get the book and get robbed again.

Not what I thought it would be. At the end of beautiful chaos they have this story for free. So don't buy this book. I am pretty upset because I thought that there would be so much more to the link story but no. Don't get me wrong it was a good little short story and it explains part of the last book so for sure read it in beautiful chaos but don't buy this. Buy beautiful chaos then you get it for FREE. not pay 1.99.

When Link decided to join his friend Ethan Wate on a quest through the supernatural tunnels beneath Gaitlin, he had no idea how the whole adventure world affect him, let alone a bite from a supernatural which has left him changed forever.

Published August 2, 2011 by Little, Brown Books for Young Readers Dream Dark by Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl is a short story focusing on Link and his transformation into a Linkubus. Within the Beautiful Creatures series.

Link has always been an interesting character, made more for use of the comic relief and also for his rollercoaster relationship with Ridley. After his change, he became even more interesting as a half Incubus, more human than his bloodthirsty counterparts. Here is a short story that’s just a little too short as it focuses on Link’s transformation into a half Incubus.

There’s a lot left unsaid, many tidbits that are explored in the main series, some hints here and there about the relationship between Ridley and Link. But ultimately, as Link goes into his transformation, the writers decided not to explore everything he is and everything he can do. The authors clearly had a goal here, and endgame, something they wanted to get at in telling the story, but ultimately, the execution of the story was very flat. Link is a great character and the comedy that makes him so great is there, but the way the story moves to quickly without really exploring Link as he is now, his feelings, thoughts, desires, everything that has changed so much with him being changed. It wasn’t some small change, it was a literal life changing moment that readers didn’t really get to see change him. And that’s unfortunate. This would have been a great moment to explore all the changes, give the readers something to laugh about as he thinks about what he can do with his newfound abilities. But none of that happens. Macon trains him, sends him on an errand and that’s the end of that. It was boring. There was nothing anticlimactic in the story, nothing that really stood out.

This is a short story that was just too short. There could have been so much more that the authors could have done in this story, especially with an ending like that, especially with the way his relationship unfolds later in the series. It answers some questions, but doesn’t provide a filling feeling for the reader. There wasn’t enough substance in the novel to hold the reader, or to even justify this short story’s existence when compared to the rest of the series. Sure, reading about Link is fun, there’s just this emptiness about the story. Compared to the rest of the series, this just seems two-dimensional, without depth and tension and drive. (★★★☆☆ | C)

This novella follows Link in during his realization that he was bitten by a supernatural being and is now an incubus. This includes running around the Caster tunnels and lots of facetime with Macon.

It's an interesting way to tell Link's tale because it's still told via Ethan's voice, even in scenes where Link is alone. Link has been a favorite character of mine since book one, as has Macon, so the fact that we get lots of time with both here made overjoyed me. This is also the first thing from this series I've read since I've seen the film and I'm delighted to inform everyone that this still holds as much appeal as before. I was scared that the film may have ruined the books for me because they changed so much. Also because, since it's been a long time since I've read the first two books, I get some of the details confused or I just plain forget them. This little novella brings it all back with startling clarity.

Not only does it tell a new story from a new "perspective" but it also reminded me of the fact that I loved the first two novels. Really, if you loved the first two novels, than this will be right up your alley. I can't wait to dive into Beautiful Chaos, which I happen to already have a hardback edition of as well as the audiobook. :))

I liked this story, mostly because I really like the character of Link. I was, however, quite disappointed that Dream Dark isn't told from Link's POV, but rather, from Ethan's. Don't get me wrong, I love Ethan too, but I felt it was not Ethan's tale to tell. It would have been far more entertaining coming from Link's brain. It actually took me a couple of screens (on Kindle) to figure out that it wasn't Link speaking.

Anyway, it's a nice addition to the story, but doesn't really add much to the overall tale. It still leaves one confused about what in the world Ridley was doing at the end of book two, and I wasn't quite sure what Macon's point was in sending Link on this errand. Did he mean for Link to die? Or did he know what was going to happen? This could have been fleshed out a bit more without giving away too much from book three, I feel.

If you read this on a Kindle, expect it to end around the 42% mark. The rest is just a sneak peak of book three. It ends abruptly and leaves you wishing it was longer. I would much rather have had 200 pages of this story over the first 200 pages of book two.

I love novellas. They usually give us a chance to get a more in depth look at a supporting character and in this case, Ethan Wate's best friend, Wesley Lincoln...aka Link. I absolutely love Link so anything I can get with him in it, I'm game. I would have read this even if it was about Linkubus. Yes, if you haven't read this you're probably looking at me like I'm crazy. Linkubus is a nickname he gave himself and I have to say, I absolutely adore this nickname! He's now a quarter incubus and it's just such a creative, catchy name. It's so Link, as well. It fits his personality perfectly.

This is a book, still told from Ethan's point of view, but about how Link realized what had happened to him at the end of BEAUTIFUL DARKNESS. It's quite amusing and you get to see an inside look at his family life with his nutty mother. We also get to see Link and Macon Ravenwood interact a lot and I think I'm going to like this...friendship? I cannot wait to read BEAUTIFUL CHAOS and I totally see how this would've held over people until it was released!

If you're a fan of this series and want something short, fun and all about Link (for the most part), read this! It's nothing something you'd have to read if you follow the series but it's something fun you should read! If you haven't pick up BEAUTIFUL CREATURES then, well, what are you waiting for? Highly recommend this series!

Dream Dark is a small splice in the Caster's Chronicles. This short story follows the lovable Link as he begins his metamorphosis into Linkubus or an incubus. I was distraught at the end of Beautiful Darkness when Link was bitten by the half incubus, John Breed. How could you ruin my favorite character? Fear not, fellow Link lovers; our beloved Link is intact and better than ever. As an incubus, Link finally morphs into the muscular, "third degree burns hot", babe magnet that he always aspired to be. Being an incubus does have a catch, he can no longer enjoy delicious, Southern, home cookin' because as an incubus he feeds on the dreams of others. Thankfully, he is not a blood sucking incubus. The tale begins with Link poised on the brink of incubus discovery. I loved getting an up close look at a day in the life of Link, it includes subpar biscuits and gravy, served by his fearsome mother, Mrs. Link, with her put the fear of God into you or else stare, a trip to the doctor for drug testing and a facts of life discussion, as well as his mother's threats and room searches. A classic good time, with all the snarky commentary you love from the series. Even though this is a novella, it has plenty of laughs, just what you expect when it comes to Link.
While I loved this little story short there are a few cautionary bits of info I need to impart.
If you have not yet visited my friends in Gatlin what are you waiting for? Someone to show up at your door and hand you the book? If that is the case, then might I suggest the store.com; this will bring the book to your door in a cardboard box with a smile. Ok, back on subject, if you have not read the previous two books in the series do not jump in and start with Link's story there are some major spoilers. Second, there is a sneak peak at book three, again you do not want to go there without first going through books one and two. Third, this is a very short little gem, it is around forty pages, so unfortunately it cuts off just when it is getting good. This leaves me to conclude that I need to start reading Beautiful Chaos immediately and that there needs to be a book told from Link's point of view. It was a sticking point for me that this book was narrated by Ethan; that aspect just didn't work for me, it should be in Link's voice. I am certainly excited to see how Link will evolve from here. All hail Linkubus!

Favorite Quotations:

"Spending time with questionable folks only gets you a big fat question mark next to your name."

"he'd learned all the facts of life the way God had intended, by spying on the girl's locker room next to the unheated swimming pool at church camp."

This was a super short story set in the space between Book 2 and Book 3 of the Caster Chronicles. If you’re a fan of Link (like I am), you’ll enjoy this little look at his transformation into the Linkubus.

Link is, as usual, adorable, fun, and one of the most awesome characters in this universe. We get to see him adapting to his new life and trying to figure out his role in this crazy world. There really isn’t a whole lot to say about the story (really, it was very short), but I still enjoyed the lightness of it since I’m still recovering from Book 2. I can’t say if the events in here will tie into the story for Book 3, but I assume we’re building to some big showdown of epic proportions that will require the talents of one Linkubus and his lady.

Well first I love how they came up with the term linkubus. Besides that,I think it was pretty good. It would've been nice if it was a little bit longer but for what it was I liked it. I've read all the novels before this and written reviews for them.the plot goes like this. As we all know link has been bitten by John breed and the linkubus is made. Before link figures this out he notices he's not ever hungry something not common in the south and he's unusually strong. His mom however thinks he's on steroids and makes him go to the doctors ,etc.he starts talking to Macon for incubus advice and Macon has him deliver a " letter" to this guy but when link gets there he gets a BIG shocker, let's just say a certain dark caster is involved, lastly, I being 11 May not have a big attention span but these books hook me .

“Dream Dark” tells the story of how Link slowly came to the realization that he was an Incubus. Since it only took a few pages to do that, his discovery is followed by chapters from the Caster Chronicles of his visit to Macon seeking advice and his trip through the tunnels. The mini, mini short, short story ends with a few chapters from “Beautiful Chaos.”

Thus, with only a few new pages in the entire ebook, I wouldn’t recommend buying it as the information comes from previously released books. I’ll leave it up to you to decide if you want to Read It Or Not.

I LOVE THIS BOOK GUYS!!!

Sorry. Sometimes I get crazy. This book really helps you understand Beautiful Darkness.
**MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS**
So, in the last book, Link got bit by John Breed, a quarter Incubus, and found out about it at night. Also, we find out that Lila Evers Wate trapped Macon in the Arclight before he passed on to the Otherworld. Ethan and Liv release him and he helped chase Abraham away. In this book, we find Macon helping Link understand what happens if you're an Incubus. I'm not telling you anything else so read the book!!!!!!! Bye!

I really disliked the narrator so I'm sure that took away from the story. The way he spoke was fragmented and disjointed. The story wasn't very special and nothing I was dying to know. Link was funny though.

This is a must read before starting Beautiful Chaos! Gives a nice prelude to a big topic of Beautiful Chaos and a great postlude (that's a word!?) to what happened at the end of Beautiful Darkness. Also comes with the first couple chapters of Beautiful Chaos, so you can just keep reading!!

a quaint little small tale about what happened when Link got bit by the hybrid John in book 2 of the Castor Chronicles. Link thought the worst of his problems were when he despised his mother cooking but more things are going on then he knows about. And then there is the drama Riley is facing as a mortal girl, ex-siren how will she handle it?

This was a fun snap shot of Link. I loved seeing things from his point of view. This story is a missing snap shot during the series. You learn a lot of information that you could otherwise miss. Great, fun, and full if Link's attitude!

I love all of the Beautiful Creatures books, and was excited that there was a short story between the second and third book. Just a warning, when they say short, they mean short. Half the book that I paid for was a preview of the third book. When I bought this, I atleast expected the 73 pages promised. Not a waste considering the price, but not extremely worth it either.

I probably should have read the description of this book before I started beautiful chaos, all this time I've been trying to figure out when exactly Link turned into an incubus. FAIL, oh's wells guess its a good thing the book explains it a little.
