Review:Until her death in 2006, Octavia Butler was one of the jewels of science fiction. She was primarily a novelist rather than a writer of short stories. This volume collects two early works of her short fiction, although the first one is long enough to categorize as a novella. The important themes she explores in these excellent stories are representative of those she tackled in her longer work.
"A Necessary Being" imagines a caste-based alien society divided among hunters, judges, fighters,... Read more
Review:A stand alone read with a HEA. This story was short and sweet. I liked it and found it entertaining and leaves you with a smile on your face!! The characters were likable and you are rooting for them.
The heroine makes a blind date with an online guy. He didn't post a picture so she does not know what he looks like but he is a grad student and they seem to hit it off chatting. They agree to meet at a local coffee house, she will be carrying a book with a flower - Meg Ryan in You've Go... Read more
Review:This was a very enjoyable short story. A young lady learned at few truths about her family's past that most of the living family members had forgotten or never knew. She learned the cold hard fact that life is not fair. Read more
Review:I find reading Heinlein to be an exercise similar to speaking with a child. You have to weave your way through a lot of silliness to get to the insight hidden within. This was no different. He goes a long way for a predictable joke. But a nice short read when you are waiting for a train. Read more

Review:I have just about everything Sylvia Day has written and have enjoyed reading them immensely, but sadly I won't be purchasing this series. What are books coming too? We pay $1 or more for every 25 pages or so and by the time the story is complete we've shelled out $15-$20, if not more. I'm all for a continuing series (like the Crossfire Series), but each release should be a full length novel, not piddly bread crumbs to try to suck you in. Can you imagine what we would have paid for Gideon and... Read more
Review:WOULDA been a 5 star if we didn't have the 5 month release delay. COULDA spent the 5 months on character/story development. SHOULDA released these as ONE book! This story of Gia & Jax COULDA been so much MORE! However, as we have come to expect, Ms. Day's bedroom/foyer/hotel suite/any flat surface (but no limo) sex scenes are steamy & right up there with the best. Loved Gia's journey figuring out Jax but it had potential to be so much more than written! Ms. Day, you are capable o... Read more
Review:The complexity of the characters and their chemistry make all the "Death In ..." draws the reader in-the storyline is always fascinating. Mystery combined passion, cruelty of murder and creativity in solving that kept me involved long past my bedtime. Read more
Review:This is Dallas at her best, totally "mag!" Got to be the best one yet in the Death Series.
(and to think, I almost didn't get it because of some of the reviews!) Glad I didn't listen.
I loved this book. It is not any more gorey than any of the others in the series.
Well done, J.D. Robb! Read more
Review:Short & sweet (booklet rather than book, really), does what it says it'll do. And I know it works, because the system is how this review came about. (I could see that I was being worked from first contact, but it was charming enough that I didn't care!)
That being said, the system is quite limited in terms of *how* to do it--it uses very specific tools, without equal time for those of us who might use other tools. I wish it had had sections that addressed other common tools.
