I'm giving this installment in Clines' series four stars because of his wonderful writing style and the laugh out loud lines from the book; plus the character development of Stealth and St George was pretty awesome. But if I were grading it on plot alone, I'd have to give it three stars...maybe even two. The plot is way too stretched out: it should have been, at most, a subplot to a larger and more interesting story. And it's been done sooooo many times in sooo many different genres that it was painfully obvious from the get-go.
Sorry Mr. Clines, but I expected more from you.
I sincerely hope you write another novel in this series and knock it out of the park.

I really enjoyed how this story built on the previous ones and carried the characters forward. Stealth and Saint George rock. Dead girl and Danielle are my new favorite characters though. Read this.

I liked the delivery and the condition of my book because it came in as promised. The delivery was quite fast which is astonishing. It arrived at my doorstep in three days after ordering. The book is in very good condition and I can't wait to crack it open.
I have read the "Ex" series and all of the books are great. I have not read Ex-Purgatory but I would recommend the books before it. Peter Clines does mash up the tropes of the superhero genre and the zombie apocalypse very well. Each book is fast and ends on a striking note.

in the the heroes/zombie world Mr. Clines has created. The alternate reality scenario was fairly easy to figure out and went on a bit too long for my taste, and the ending was over too quickly. However, these slights did NOT distract from the overall story. Good job, sir! I'll continue to buy the books as long as you continue to put them out!

I really enjoyed this book. It was very well written and had some fun twists and turns. Some I saw coming and some I didn't. Even the ones I saw coming, I found enjoyable. At first the story threw me for a loop, but once I caught on to what was going on I loved it. This might be my favorite book so far in the series. I highly recommend it.

I waited for this one< I liked the characters, their powers, the author's take on the whole zombie piece. This e-book took us into another imagined aspect of the post apocalyptic world they inhabited and brought back a character with a very interesting power.

While Ex-Patriots introduced us to the kind of damage mental superpowers can do, Ex-Purgatory covers the same subject in a very different way. Part Star Trek (ship in a bottle), part Old Man Logan, all Peter Clines. A great ride, even though it feels very short (I didn't actually check how long it is).

Did you know that at Midnight Kindle sends out the book. Yeah, they did.
I eagerly awaited the book to update and once it did. I stayed up til 3 a.m. and finished it. The exhaustion I feel now was worth it. Everything was just awesome.
You got superpowers, you got action, you got angst, you got some romance, and a bit of hurt and regret. And you got Zombies or Exes...What more can you want from Clines?
The man still can deliver even 4 books into his series. I can almost see where this is going, but again, I'm not the writer, so I really can't say with 100% surety. Also I hate spoilers so I won't go into full details like other reviewers.
I am only saddened that now I have to wait another full year to read another book that will take me 3 hrs to finish...
But Mr Clines: You write. I WILL buy.
Excelsior!!

I love this series and Cines definitely has a feel for these characters. That said, this is not my favorite book so far in the series. A great idea, but it just wasn't for me. Looking forward to the next installment.

Nice twist in the first half keeps this series interesting. The author does not keep rehashing old stories from his own books or other zombie cannon. He has blended superheroes and zombies together, making a series better than the some of its parts

Feel like a few hundred pages of Inception-like frustrated dream states with an obvious story path? Then this is for you. Otherwise, this book is a real slog (and this is from someone who really liked the first three books).
Please RateEx-Purgatory (Ex Heroes)
Start with Ex-Heroes. These books are episodic, but he doesn't slow down very much to catch up new readers.
For the fans: for all the waiting, I wish more had happened in Ex-Purgatory. Everything leading up to the climax was inconsequential and for the first time in this series I found myself disinterested in the small strokes. And when the book ends, we haven't covered much new ground at all. It left me with the same impression as a clip show. It might be fun, but it's not going to advance anything meaningful.
Still present is Clines's unerring charm. Stealth, St George, Barry, even Captain Freedom - they're like old friends to me by now. It's literally too difficult for me to dislike one of these books, but Ex-Purgatory is as close as I've ever come.
Criticizing this book feels like complaining about a slice of cheesecake, so let me sum it up: this book was enjoyable, but served as a diversion more than a proper addition to the Ex series.
