A great read. I voluntarily read and reviewed this as an arc. It is a delightful romantic story with several twists. The Duke and Annabelle are drawn to each other from the first meeting. The younger Duke is visiting Annabelle father to purchase some art pieces, one old Masters collection piece. There are some unsuspecting characters that turn up with the Reverend, one is his apprentice and one is the brother to the apprentice. This story has a great flow and a depth to the characters that keep it interesting. Well worth the time to read it.

GREAT LOVE STORY WITH LOTS OF MYSTERY GOING ON IN THE BACKGROUND OF THEIR STORY THAT TENDS TO MAKE MANY PROBLEMS FOR THEM TO REACH THEIR HEA. CHARACTERS ARE DETAILED THAT MAKES ONE THINK YOUR TRULY THERE. DUKE CAME ONLY TO POSSIBLY PURCHASE PAINTINGS BUT ENCOUNTERED INSULTS TO HIS REPUTATION WHICH HE HAD TO CLEAR AND CATCH THIEVES WHO STOLE PAINTINGS . KEPT PAGES TURNING TO THE HEA. RECOMMEND GOOD READ.

Really enjoyed this story, Annabelle and the Duke were great together. The Half our boys were kind of predictable but it all made for a very well written and good story. Can't wait to read the next book!

Duke Colburn is wanting to purchase a certain painting that the Duke of Cartwright is selling. While waiting for his friend to come appraise the painting, the Duke falls for Lady Annabelle. The feeling is mutual but before they can have their happy ever after they must find out who stole three of her father’s paintings. Excellent story that is easy to read in one setting.

I found this an interesting Regency Era novel, different from the other books by this author. In addition to a budding love between 2 very worthy young people, we watch as an evil plot forms.
Annabelle, daughter of a Duke, meets Stephen, Duke Colbourn when he comes to see about purchasing some paintings owned by Annabelle’s father. This very proper young man and cultured young lady are drawn to each other from the time they meet. Shortly after his arrival, 2 brother’s arrive, to serve as interns under the local priest. They are remarkable for lacking social graces seen in the upper crust, making them suspicious right from the first. The reader soon surmises what the 2 brothers are plotting-to steal valuable paintings from Anabelle’s father. It is the method by which they choose to do this which we must await.
The paintings are stolen, suspicion is cast on the brothers, but there is surprise- the priest goes missing, and despite searches is not found immediately. Where is the priest? The paintings? Will Duke Colbourn prove to be honest or is he the thief? All of this drama as well as a sweet love story is packed into this book. Those who enjoy mysteries, clean love stories, and the Regency period will enjoy this book.

The Duke came to purchase a picture for his mother, and ends up falling for the daughter of the person he is buying the picture from. And of course, there are not so nice people and happiness wins out in the end and evil does not.

This book is one of my favorite historical romances. Abby Ayles is a wonderful author and she always delivers. Annabelle is beautiful and kind and falls in love when sho meets Stephen, Duke of Cardinal. Stephen saw Annabelle and it was love the moment he saw her. Then you have intrigue, stolen art and anticipation to find out what happens. Great book.

Arthur Cain Cartwright, Duke of Norrend, has two young ladies staying with his family. Lady Annabelle was his eldest daughter and she was the apple of his eye. Lady Cecilia was his youngest daughter. Lady Julia Rickman was the oldest of the wards and Lady Joanna Rickman was the youngest. The Duchess of Norrend is Louisa Ann Cartwright his wife and she has been trying to mentor the girls. Steven William Colburn, Duke of Cardinal, collects art and Duke of Norrend has some he wants to sell, in particular, one his Mom wants. When he gets there, Annabelle enchants him and she finds him intriguing.
This is an excellent story, it is interesting and well written. It does get a little complicated but it does move smoothly. The characters are fun and thoughtful, except the bad guys. I have enjoyed the author's books since she started writing. They are always a pleasure to read.

The Duke of Cardinal, Stephen William Colbourn has been looking for a painting that his mother loves. He finds out the Duke of Norrend has it. He goes there to buy the painting. He meets Lady Annabelle and they are quite taken with each other. Annabelle's friend Joanna tells lies about Stephen. Why? Someone steals paintings from Annabella's father. Who would do that? And why? Stephen must clear up his reputation. How will he do this? Will Stephen and Annabella's love survive the difficulties?
This story is well written and flows nicely. Characters are fleshed out. Twists and turns keep your attention and interest. I recomment it.

Along with the usual sweet clean Regency romance - this book adds a twist of drama and evil to the mix. I liked this added depth to the story. As usual great character development by this author.
