Kerry Greenwood has succumbed finally to that thing which drives me nuts in an author: she writes with A Cause. She has found some success, and has used her latest book as sledgehammer to whack us upside the head for The Cause. Oh, there were bubblings of The Cause in her previous novels, which I can overlook if the stories are good, which they are, and which I did. But this last novel has left a bad taste in my mouth. It seems as though the murder mystery was secondary to The Cause, with Phryne not even solving the crime. It just sort of solved itself wrapped in a neat bow. I don't think I'll be reading any more of Miss Phryne's adventures if this continues.

I love A Phryne Fisher Mystery: mane character is smart, intelligent, independent, woman with amazing sense of style. Stories are always intriguing, and written in very good English( not slang American).

Shame on the person who allowed this work released without proper proofreading. Barely into chapter 9 and I keep stumbling over bad mistakes ... "Mr." instead of "Mr. B", "Lines" instead of "Lin", "docks" instead of "doc's". Wonder what other typos are ahead.

No idea if these typos are in the original print version or only in the Kindle version. Very disappointing and spoils a good read.

I enjoyed the descriptions of the travails of the chorus and its conductors, but found too much silliness in Phryne's attempt to be both Masters and Johnson to a gay couple. The Holmes and Watson parallels were also a stretch, as "Holmes" was too petty to be a good match for the devoted "Watson."

I love Phryne & pretty much love every word Kerry puts to print.
This has not been my favorite, although like Phryne & Sheffield, I was unable to workout who was putting an end to the musically inclined. Perhaps that was my problem, I didn't solve the mystery before Phryne, but then again neither did she.
There were a few little glitches here & there, that I find bothersome & should have been picked up by a good editing.
This time Miss Fisher & her household of intrepid assistants, are thrown into two mysteries involving the world of code breaking, wharfie gangs & choral precision.
The arrival to Melbourne of one of Phyrne's WW I 'friends' introduces us to yet another side of her colorful past & shows her loyalty to those she holds dear.
All up another wonderful foray into my favourite things: a mystery, or 4, a strong female character, & the heady 1920's culture.

As with othe Pryne Fisher novels, a good understanding of the back story of the characters is required, but this book well rewards the effort.
Beautifully crafted with interesting misdirection and a flowing, compelling narrative.

I was so looking forward to this latest Phryne and have loved the entire series. In the previous books the excellent mystery was spiced with a nice dash of sex. This however was a detailed exploration of human sexuality over many, many pages. I was very bored and disappointed.

Miss Fisher Murder Mysteries are all extremely entertaining. I love the plots and the fantastic descriptions of Miss Fisher's wardrobe enables the reader to visualise her appearance, showcasing her style, which is important to the overall theme i
Of her character.

I found the sexual material more explicit in this novel than in the others Phryne Fisher stories I have read I have to admit that this is one series of stories that are far better adapted for Television;they have made an entertaining television series, partly because of the excellent casting. I find that as novels they are a little shallow in structure .

As far as I am concerned Kerry Greenwood and Phryne Fisher can do no wrong. The lyrics running through a good percentage of the book were irritating, but easily bypassed. As always Phryne got her man in more ways than one.

I cannot believe this book is about the same character and written by the same author. I have read all the previous books and enjoyed them immensely. I couldn't wait for the library copy so I decided to purchase it for my new Kindle. What a waste of money. Typo's throughout and some odd probable auto-fills in places. The most disturbing thing was the addition of very explicit sexual passages...going on for a whole chapter?! Really? I never finished it. If they decide to add this book to the TV series, it will have to be shown late at night with an adult content warning. Very disappointed and cannot understand the reason for Ms. Greenwood to take this series in this very graphic and obsessive direction.
