Especially for a person who hasn't read anything on a dogs need in nutrition in it's diet. This book covers it and includes recipes and snacks that can be made at home. My dog has sensitivities and I am really wanting to make homemade snacks. Also link to authors webpage.

Has some nice recipes, but I was looking more for a special needs diet including how to make sure there's a proper balance of carbs to protein, minerals and vitamins and serving size recommendations. Some of these look good enough for human consumption!

Excellent resource and guide to make sure your furry friend get the nutrition needed. Although cooking for your canine is time consuming it is absolutely worth the effort. Since incorportating these recipes into my dog's diet, his coat is shinier, his allergies have lessened, and his IBS gets better. Highly recommended!

I have two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels that were rescued from Amish puppy mills. They come with the health issues common to puppy mill dogs. I have been very concerned about their nutrition especially since one has gastro-intestinal issues. Knowing that there are so many "crap" dog foods and treats on the market, I became interested in making my own. I came across many recipes for meals and treats, but most of them left me wondering if I would be feeding my dogs just what they needed. At last! I found Ricks book. He presents such a straight forward, explanatory and easily followed method of preparing excellent food for my dogs. I am confident that they will be getting what they need to keep healthy. I will follow Rick's advice of half homemade food with half top quality kibble. And my dogs will never eat a store bought treat again. I am so grateful that Rick put all the study and investigation that he did into this book since I was a little overwhelmed by how to go about doing this correctly.
Not only is it a fun book to read, I feel it is just the answer I was looking for.

Any serious dog lover will find this book quite useful in the overall care you should be administering to your pal and the knowledge gained from expanding your canine dietary glossary.

This book is AWESOME! there so many GREAT things about this book, I have been cooking up a storm for my 4 Pack of Pugs, and they are all in. I would love to talk to the Author, that would be Soooo great.

This book is really useful. Not only does it give recipes but also some philosophy and general rules on feeding a homemade diet. The only downfall for me is that it is heavy on chicken dishes but my dog is allergic to chicken

I was cooking these recipes for several weeks for three dogs. I just got so tired of cooking that I went to a "green" dog food store in my town and found a canned dog food that didn't have the awful ingredients that the top selling brands of dog food have. Now I cook a couple of times a week and feed my dogs half dog food and half cooked food. They are doing great and love the recipes.

Bought this book when I decided commercial dog food wasn't good enough for my life companion. It started the day my pup got sick after liking drops of my home haircoloring process from the bathroom floor (!!). My veterinarian saved him & prescribed a 5 day diet WITHOUT commercial food 'as the acidity of that food is bad at this moment'. Uh? What about other 'moments'? Then came news that some commercial foods are labelled 'Good for human consumption' but never could find those in my country. The overflow of bad news came from Spain, where legions of house pets died because they had used euthanized pets to make dog food (shudder!). That day my doggie shared my menu (nothing fancy, just chicken & rice). Following day I bought this Marvellous Book AND... We never looked back!! To this day my love my doggie looks as happy as the Lab on the cover! He's thriving, never been better. Goodbye allergies, goodbye reluctance to eat, goodbye problems! Always clean plate/bowl, no food wasted in our home. And must admit I never even imagined the endless variations described in this book. Thank you SO much dear author! From both of us!!

This is an awesome book. It has many simple, delicious recipes & treats for dogs that require simple ingredients....many that most of us have in our pantry. I recently read about all of the dogs that have gotten very ill (many died) from dog food & treats off of the shelf that are made from poor quality disgusting ingredients. I am excited & grateful to have found this book!!

This is well organized with many healthy, great recipes. It has recipes for health issues, too, such as for kidney or liver disease, cancer, etc. Plus it has awesome treat recipes. I have many raw and homemade food for dogs books, but this one is a favorite.

Great book!! Tons of recipes and more! Lots of tips and information as well. I have used several recipes for my dogs. Also great just to get some ideas on the kinds of things you can feed them, even if you don't follow the exact recipe. I bought another one for my sister in law!!

Each recipe we've tried has easily passed the doggie taste test. Really like the format and print stye - easy to read and follow directions while juggling kitchen utensils, not always perfect lighting and dogs underfoot.
Definitely recommend.

These recipes were nice and easy. My only issue is that the author said that he feeds his dogs kibble in addition to homemade for the minerals and vitamins. I was hoping that his recipes included them.

We are adopting a rescue German shepherd and I want to be sure he/she is on a healthy diet. I have my work cut out for me! I will be preparing/cooking the food with healthy options. This book shows the way to maintaining a healthy buddy!
