Good book for the most part. It explains things well, with some instances where you really need to read closely to understand what they are talking about. They give lots of example problems in this book. The examples are nice, but sometimes they don't seem to follow a logical order and they are hard to follow what the author did to get the answers. Wiley Plus is a program that goes along with the book and it is very expensive. If you need it, it is almost better to buy the book brand new with the code for the website, as the website portion by itself costs over fifty dollars.

This book had more chapters than my professors book. GREAT FIND!!! This book was the combination of two books my University was trying to make us buy. One book was for PHYS 221 and the other for PHYS 222. By geting this book I killed two birdds with on stone and saved alot of money.

The authors made an excellent work, a great manual suitable either for a rapid reference or for beginning a profound investigation of all the subjetcs of physics. Useful for the daily life, even more for those whose like to understand how the world works.

This is actually an AP level Physics textbook. No good for 2nd year/junior level college students.

While Newtonian Mechanics part is well written, in-depth explanation(should be using Vector Calculus) of EM is lacking in the Electromagnetism part. You definitely need another book on EM to get a thorough understanding of the topic. Purcell's E&M is way better in terms of mathematical precision.

Ignore the warnings on the used/rental pages about online codes not being present in those editions. Guess what, this new book doesn't have it either, but the store hides this crucial information in the "See more" section of the item description, so you'd have to click on it to see that this new book doesn't have a WileyPlus code!

Why does this matter? On WileyPlus.com, online tutorial is available along with a copy of the textbook on the website! If you want to access it on your tablet or phone, which I don't recommend, you just need to pay $35 more. For $45 after that, you get a physical copy of the book. So why would you spend $230 for no online access, vs $215-220 on WileyPlus.com for the book and online access?

As for the book itself, I have the 1996 (5th vs. 10th) edition, and a lot of the materials has been retained, while other materials were changed or added. I doubt you'll go wrong with an older edition unless you need the problems, which again are available at WileyPlus.

I got this textbook as a recommendation from a friend. I went through the 2nd chapter on velocity, acceleration, etc yesterday, and I like it so much more than the previous textbook I had been using (Essential University Physics by Wolfson). Sample problems are very good. They even have humor in the problems! I worked some of the problems from the back of the chapter that have solutions in the back, and they were good too (the one's I got to). I had another physics major friend who saw I had the book and said it was the one she used in her physics class as a freshmen. She said she still has it and loves it because it is comprehensive and easy to understand.

This book was in really good condition. I have yet to see any highlighting or notes. I like that the book includes a lot of practice problems and homework problems. It also contains "check points", which are problems after a specific topic is discussed. What check points allow you to do, is make sure you understand the topic that was just discussed. Overall, the book is pretty clear and concise.

The electricity and magnetism chapters are really superb. The earlier chapters can become quite convoluted in terms of how the in-chapter practice problems directly relate to the important chapter materials. I recommend purchasing/renting the Extended version of this text, as it contains chapters required for most Physics II courses.

Exactly what I needed for almost 100 dollars less than the heavy, bulky paper copy. Original pagination kept so it was very easy to use. I invested in a 128 gb iPad Air 2 for college and figured i would end up making back my money just from the savings and this book alone paid back about 10% of what I spent on the ipad and was much easier to carry around than a 1500 page book

This textbook is very well done but the treatment may not be for everyone. That is, the book assumes a certain level of competency in basic physics and thus spends less time and space in developing concepts. It is very problem-heavy and the vast majority of the text is dedicated to problem solving. I would very highly recommend the solutions manual.

This book has some of the best Physics Practice questions I have seen. They combine multiple concepts into a single question and are great practice for students who want to understand Physics better or teachers looking for homework and test questions.

This is actually a very good Physics book. It was used in class which is why I bought it. Very easy to reference, very well written and illustrated. I would even recommend as reference if you can find it for cheap.

When I clicked on the review, it said looseleaf in parentheses underneath, but I do not remember seeing that when I ordered it otherwise I probably wouldn't have. I was irritated when i received it, but didn't have time to send it back and get the hardcover, so that is on me. Next time I won't wait so long to get my books. The description just said softcover, so I thought that what it was. So, yes it was cheaper, and the one nice thing is that I don't have to lug this huge book around, but it is annoying trying to make sure the pages stay in the right order, plus I had to go buy a huge binder to put it in and I'm always worried that the holes are going to tear. Honestly I would say if you can afford the hardcover - or if they make a TRUE softcover - get that instead. You'll be much happier.

This book, while very verbose, is still quite a good book. I have learned a lot about physics from reading from this and I don't think anyone that takes the time to read it themselves will have much trouble either.

This text is extremely useful for college. It presents the material in an orderly and plain manner, which makes it very simple to use and understand. I would highly recommend it to all physics students in college or those taking AP Physics C in High School. It's a wonderful resource to have!!!

This book served my for 3 semesters at our community college, its a good resource, but its hard to read, I guess any physics book would be, little hard to compare it to something else since I don't recall my high school one.

I believe that the book has some nice examples, but the homework is extremely hard, and some of them are just algebra/calculus tricks.
As I said I used this book for 3 semesters, 3 different professors. They were split into kinematics, thermo/electricity/magnetism, and nuclear/quantum/waves.

I truly believe the professors are the ones that make the class and not the book, the book is a supplement to how some one will teach and not teach the book. I say this because my first instructor would make us read a chapter have discussion and quiz once a week and do homework and call it good. Hated the class but the book made most of it tolerable because of the nice examples.

Second semester I only opened the book to do the assigned homework problems. Everything was taught out of slides, and discussion quizzes after each class periods. The most challenging class I have taken, the most fun and I believe I learned so much more than if I had read the book and saw their examples.

Third semester we were assigned sections to read and we had a reading quiz and a review from the class before. I started to hate the book again, it was so dull and in the end started to just read the highlights at the end of the chapter, the slides of my instructor were pretty much the pages in the book. Most of it made no sense, and neither did the lectures, but discussion problems and group sessions and together we got through it.

Bottom line the book its clean, derives a lot of the formulas if you enjoy that, good for you, some of us just need to understand how to apply them. There are a lot of nice examples for simple cases, like I said the homework is so much more challenging. The book itself fell apart halfway through the first semester, some of my class mates books had no cover within in weeks, super heavy book, but take into consideration I only had to spend 100 bucks for 3 different classes.

If you already know what you are doing, this is probably a good reference book, even then some of the questions stumped some of our faculty tutors. More likely you buy this for a class not to just read for fun.
