A very good book, lots of interesting points that apply to life and being productive with a positive attitude. I am not a huge basketball fan and have never played, but this book will suit anyone who looks to be more positive and effective.

Another superb collection of Coach Wooden's beliefs, strategies, ways of working with his athletes and coaches, and his efforts to help each team member be the best that he can be and contribute most readily to the success of the entire team.

I love the principles taught here. It helped me better understand how valuable each team member on a team is. You can apply the leadership lessons to any leadership role you assume. Definitely a book I recommend

Just like Wooden himself, this book is top-notch. This read is not just for basketball coaches/players. It's for everyone! I've used the teachings presented in this book in organizations from baseball teams to fraternity management. Do yourself a favor and pick up this book by Coach.

John Wooden presents a framework for Leadership he developed over his career as one of the greatest basketball coaches of all time. Many of the principles contained in his Leadership are common sense, but sadly are missing in so much of what we do in our personal and professional lives.
A solid read.
A solid read.

An excellent overview of Wooden's approach to leadership - including excerpts from his notebooks that were meticulously kept over his 40+ year career. Covering all aspects of his philosophy - from the leadership pyramid to his tenets on living life to the fullest - John Wooden was perhaps the most sage coach, motivator, leader and adviser of our time. The successes he had both on and off the court speak for themselves, and the book summarizes many of these principles. A must read for the leader, manager, coach or parent.

This Coach Wooden book explains the philosophy and success factors of this great coach.
I use it extensively with my teams as a continuous improvement and team development tool. The pyramid of success is the framework we follow.
Very informative and helpful book

The book arrived on time and in perfect condition. I bought it because I was assigned a research project on a leadership figure of my choosing, and I just happened to know that this guy knew a thing or two about successful teams. I got more than a research project out of this book; Wooden's stories will make your days more enjoyable, as well as give you some very concrete insight on how you can continue to press forward and endure. I recommend this book to anyone.

Sir John Wooden specified the strengths and weaknesses of each of his players...as it collectively contribute to the team, as achieving the best possible potential for the group and it's individual members. I'm honored to have time with him in his book, Thank you Sir John Wooden..

Coach Wooden was indisputably a genius at coaching and teaching basketball. But he was also a genius at an overall approach to life and leadership. His Pyramid of Success is not a hastily devised piece of paper with a few good suggestions. It is a carefully thought out guide that reflects many years of experience and consideration.
For example, Coach Wooden's description of his revision of the definition of "Team Spirit" is very instructive and insightful. He realized that it was not enough for his players to be "willing" to sacrifice for the good of the team; he wanted them to be "eager" to make such sacrifices. This and many other observations in this book are profound. The book provides a very useful and detailed guide that can help any leader (or person) make significant improvements.

There is so much you can takeaway from this book. Coach Wooden was a rare coach from a different era with great core values he taught to his players. I appreciate he is honest in this book, humble and discusses many examples of when things went well and not so well. He does a great job of breaking down a leadership philosophy, how to practically put it in place, teach it, communicate it and live it.

John Wooden is a legendary basketball coach and teacher. His unsurpassed success as a basketball coach has its roots in his teachings which is written in this book. As a start, he outlines his famous Pyramid of Success:
1)Industriousness (hard work)
2)Friendship
3)Loyalty
4)Cooperation (be interested in finding the best way, not in having your own way)
5)Enthusiasm
6)Self Control
7)Alertness
8)Initiative
9)Intentness (Being determined and persistent)
10)Condition (practice moderation)
11)Skill (knowedge and ability)
12)Team Spirit
13)Point
14)confidence (Preparation and proper perspective)
15)Competitive Greatness
Being around 90 years old, however, John Wooden is a big proponent (perhaps because he doesn't know otherwise) of the Old School. For example, he empasizes values over victory, character over talent, and love over competition. He doesn't even believe in recruiting basketball players. He also believes any basketball player with moral, ethical, or attitude issues should not be offered a scholarship (not at his program anyway). All this is fine, and I personally don't disagree. His ideas, however, are somewhat outdated in our hyper competitive results-oriented society. Take NCAA basketball, how many coaches are fired for not graduating its players? Very few. Most are fired, however, if they fail to notch enough wins.
I still think this is a very good book to buy. Especially to youngsters and teenagers, that is, if you would like to learn lessons from an Old School teacher.

This is a very good book on Leadership and Life. Wish there was an audio version. I read something from this book every morning before I start the day. Emotional Quotient (EQ) is a real key to great leadership. My entire Briggs Equipment team is better off because of Wooden. Thanks for the referral Vernon.

I agonized to give this good three-stars. John Wooden is one of the greatest men to ever live. I loved to hear him speak. But Steve Jameson's writing style is unbearable to read. I wouldn't wait to finish this book and be done. I found myself almost falling to sleep, but this is about John Wooden. I also found myself counting the number of paging until I was done.
