This book made me think of the late david gemmels work. The nobility of battle and sacrifice is a difficult concept to express in today's age, but this author captures it exquisitely. Well worth reading, fast paced and while it is the beginning of a trilogy the ending leaves the reader fulfilled.

Love the story and really liked how it was written. I think it's neat how north and south are on the verge of war too. This story was a page turner and I'm really looking forward to reading the next one.

This is a well written and ( unlike many) well edited and proofread story. Characters were fairly well developed and the technical detail, while glossed over were believable and fun. All in all a good and enjoyable read.

Hundreds of years after the fall, a north/south divided America shows two starkly different approaches to what country and governing mean. Parno McLeod, third son to the king of the southern areas, considered a wastrel, seizes his destiny in a truly existential struggle between the benevelently ruled south and the tyrannical northern empire. This is absolutely not some alternative retelling of our civil war, but a deeply thought out presentation of what the recovery after a total disaster might be like. Please read this book.

When I keep reading past my bed time knowing that I have to get up early and go to work, it means that I have found a book that I am enjoying immensely. This applies to all three of the books of the series that I have read so far. Thank you very much Mr. Reed!!

"What did you use this product for?". Well, for personal enjoyment , of course. This author has engaged me from the first chapter of the first book I read. I've yet to find a writer with his ability to define characters, knowledge of his subject, and generally good storytelling. He paints a picture effortlessly while conveying a good feeling tale. Bad guys get their comeuppance in short order and the good guys have honor. I only wish I could join his merry band and leave the sleazy current world behind. I've grown weary of cowards common in the daily news. Glad this guy is able to assuage my disappointment in the lack of dignity of today's churls.
