Mencheres has not been one of my favorite characters through the Vampire Huntress Series, and knowing this has obviously made me reluctant to review this title. My foremost concern was that due to my bias I would not be able to review this title effectively. So, here is to one of many times that an incredible author has proven me entirely wrong. Frost takes this slightly shady character, and transforms him into a dedicated and companionate personality that will dissolve fans previous impressions. After many years of uncertainty, I found myself falling head over heals in love this newly developed character. What had always seemed a character of mystery is finally unfolded to allow readers a more in-depth look into his true self. Even more surprising, I was captivated and overwhelmed by Frost's newest addition. Kira is such a strong and independent character that will shock and awe fans due to her abundant comparisons to the beloved Cat. I was enticed by this character from the start; rooting for the power and intensity that seemed to be simmering under her cool exterior. True to her talent, Frost combines these amazing characters offering an addictive and spell binding love story that readers will crave. As part of the Night Huntress World spin off series this should be the only novel highlighting this couple, but I am anxious for their appearances in novels to come. Frost will knock readers socks of yet again with this action packed and thrilling adventure.

I was up until the early hours of the morning finishing this book. I haven't come across a book this addicting in awhile.
Kira was a fantastic heroine. She is brave and certain of herself. I absolutely love how the main characters met - Kira saves Mencheres's life and in turn her saves hers by giving her some of his blood and whisking her away to his home. He plans on erasing her memories of him, but is unable to and as time goes by he realizes he doesn't want to.
Their romance and relationship building was perfectly paced while their personalities complimented each other. I enjoyed their easy conversations and their chemistry - this couple was HOT!
The down side was the "bad guy". I felt like there needed to be more background information as to why Mencheres was feuding with him. I would have liked the explanation to be more clear.
Really, this book had everything I like and reminded me why I feel in love with the paranormal romance genre...it has been 12 years and counting!
This series is a must for paranormal romance lovers. If you haven't started it you should!

So folks this book here - "Eternal Kiss of Darkness" - is the second installment in the Night Huntress World Series by Jeaniene Frost which is a spin off series from the Night Huntress series. If you are a fan of the Night Huntress series; my question to you is how can you not want to read about the surrounding characters? Cause I sure as hell do.
I myself am a huge fan of Cat & Bones and their sesries so I goobled up the Night Huntress World books like they were going to go out of style quick.
The "Eternal Kiss of Darkness's" hero and heroine are Mencheres (Bones' grandsire and Co-Ruler of their line) and Kira Graceling (private investigator with instincts that are a sure thing). When Mencheres loses some of his legacy powers -- visions, and his personal person location gps -- he believes he is on his way out of this world. He makes a good showing of suicide via ghoul but it turns out that he can't see himself sacrificing the human women brave enough to step in to save a stranger.
Kira has her own life going on but instanly even as a captive in a golden cage feels in expicably drawn to her tall, dark, and hella hot host. She doesn't know why, but she is fighting a bad case of stockholm syndrome.
This book has a lot of character depth and growth. Mencheres stays true to what I saw him as in the Night Huntress series - the all powerful guy who does for other but doesn't believe he derserves due to guilt for past actions. Kira is a strong companion which surprises Mencheres at every turn.
For those fans who hold there breath for glimpses of Cat and Bones you will be happy that they do apprear in a few scenes in this books. More so than in the first one. The relationshp and struggles of these chracters are what to me makes this book worth reading. I am beyond glad that Mencheres got his book and a chance to get his girl.
Love the world that surronds them and I have to say that there were suprises for me in this book it isn't always the case with some books or authors. Another great stop on my literary adventures.
Can't wait for "This Side of the Grave" by Jeaniene Frost - the 5th book in the Night Huntress Series with a tentative release date of February 22, 2011 according to Ms. Frost's office website [...].

This is the second book in the Night Huntress World series. This was a decent story, I didn't like it as much as the Cat and Bones books, but it was fun to learn more about Mencheres's past.
Mencheres is incredibly old and has been feeling death's call for some time. That is until the beautiful and tough, Kira steps in to save Mencheres from some ghouls. Mencheres would like nothing more than to erase Kira's memory, but Kira is proving resistant to his mind control. With one of Mencheres's old vampire feuds spinning out of control, Mencheres ends up having to keep Kira close to him to protect her. Mencheres is drawn to Kira like no other woman in centuries. Maybe if Menchres can survive his feud and beat back the darkness his future holds, he can finally come to terms with what him and Kira feel for each other.
If you enjoyed the first Night Huntress World book then you will enjoy this one. These are much more paranormal romance than the Night Huntress series, as such there isn't as much fightting and action and I tend not to enjoy them quite as much.
Still this book gives the reader a chance to see into the mind of one of the most powerful and mysterious characters from the Night Huntress series, Mencheres. Mencheres is unique both in his three thousand year or so age and in the absolute control he usually displays. It was interesting to learn more about Mencheres's past and to see some of the thought behind that complete control.
Kira was an excellent heroine and a force to be reckoned with. She is tough, but not overly rash...she has a mind of her own, but does try to listen to reason. There are couple of times where she did some pretty stupid things out of ignorance, but these were well-founded. I enjoyed reading about her and enjoyed the deeper look into her character that I had previously missed by only reading the Night Huntress series.
It does bug me a little bit that you have to read these more romancy books to fill out the story, otherwise you are a bit lost as to what was going on in the Night Huntress series. I kind of wish the two series weren't so interconnected and dependent on each other.
Overall it is a decent story. Much more romance than the Night Huntress series and I didn't enjoy it as much as those books. Still it was nice to finally learn Mencheres's past and to gain some additional understanding of his character. I definitely recommend this is you are a fan of the Night Huntress series; although much of the action and humor that is present in those books is absent in this story.

Kira is a young private investigator; she has not had what you would call an easy life. One night on her way home from work, as she was in one of the more seeder sides of town, she heard a cry and moan from one of the abandon buildings. She called 911, but they were about twenty minutes out. She knew she couldn't leave this person to whatever fate was making them scream like that. She did not just enter the ware house that night, she stepped into a world she had no idea existed. There were monsters she never seen before what can only be described as a Vampire, but her mind would not let her take this all in.
Mencheres has grown tired of this life. His line no longer needed him, they have his co-ruler Bones. He is weary of his fighting with his enemy Radjedef and now with his visions gone he can no longer ward off his attacks before they happen. Mencheres worries the impact this feud will have on his line and thinks it would be better if he removed the object of Radjedef revenge , this will insure his people's safety. So wail he is in the ware house with a few ghouls trying to settle his fate, he is interrupted by a strange human. She rushes in to save him. He has never had any one save him before so he can't just leave her to the ghouls so he kills them, heals her and takes her with him in erase any memory of this night from her. But the problem comes when he realizes he can't breach her mind, he can't alter her memory, he cannot even hear he thoughts as he can other humans.
Mencheres finds himself very taken by her, each day she spends in his home he grows closer to her she brings out feelings in him he long thought were dead. Feelings that he may never even had with any one before. He has been celibate for the last thousand years for fear any one close to him would be killed by his crazy wife whom is now dead.
After Mencheres releases Kira she finds she can't stop thinking about this man she wants him more than any other thing in her life so she seeks him out only to get herself into a world of trouble, and then her life makes a turn that she would never seen coming and the only one who can help her now is the man she so desperately was trying to find.
If only it was as easy as just being together. Mencheres find his self accused of murder and exposing the Vampires secrete to the world. He knows it was Radjedef who has done this to him, now he must find the proof it was him and bring it to the guardians before they find him and take Kira from him and give her right to Radjedef.
I thought this was a great addition to the series. I had a hard time with Mecheres I always pictured him as an old man in all the other books but he is actually younger looking than Cat and Bones. So I was not sure how that would work out for me, but I think I got over it fairly easy, He is still very proper and stiff most of the time. He is not my favorite character but I did enjoy his book. I seen a whole new side to him that I had never seen before. I always just kind of thought he was a grumpy old man. Now I see he is a sensitive hot young man. Vlad and Bones will always be my favorites. I loved the scenes with the Vlad he is very funny and hot!!
I always love Jeaniene Frost there is not a book yet I didn't like from her. I am very excited for my next installment of the Night Hunters series. It would be great if Vlad was the next one to get a book or even Ian since we didn't get to see any of him in this last book. If you have not read this series or the night huntress series I recommend you check it out! They both are A+ series that everyone should at least check out.

Mencheres is a millennia-old vampire who was once the Pharaoh Menkaure. He thinks he's seen a vision of his own doom and now has something of a death wish. One night, he's intentionally losing a fight against some ghouls when a human woman intervenes to help him.
That woman is Kira Graceling, a thirtyish private investigator. Kira is brave, selfless, and maybe a bit of a martyr. (For example, in one early scene, Mencheres offers to help Kira's terminally ill sister for a price, and Kira doesn't even wait to hear what it will be, instead jumping to conclusions and offering something much steeper than what Mencheres was about to demand.) Kira hears Mencheres' cries of pain and wades into the fray. This eventually leads to a relationship that changes both Kira's and Mencheres' lives, and puts them in danger when Mencheres' eternal enemy realizes he can use Mencheres' affection for Kira against him.
The plot doesn't break much new ground in the field of vampire romance; the jaded ancient who finds love and regains his joie de vivre is a classic trope of the genre. Jeaniene Frost builds a fun and sweet novel around that trope, however. Eternal Kiss of Darkness features a tender, sexy love story and just the right amount of horror/violence elements. Then there's the comic relief. Several scenes in this novel are hilarious, such when a vampire confrontation ends up posted on YouTube and garners critical comments about the acting, and pretty much anything Vlad Tepesh ever says. (As in many vampire novels, ol' Vlad makes an appearance, and Frost's version is one of the best I've seen. With his wry sense of humor, he steals every scene he's in.)
I really enjoyed Eternal Kiss of Darkness. It's a breezy, quick-moving read that's perfect for a hot summer weekend. While it's a spin-off of the NIGHT HUNTRESS series, no prior knowledge of those books is required. In fact, Eternal Kiss of Darkness is the first Jeaniene Frost book I've read, though I liked the brief appearances by Cat and Bones in this book and will probably go back and begin reading their story soon.

Kira is a private investigator who hears a scuffle and walks in on a man on the brink of being slain by . . . ghouls. Not hoodlums dressed as ghouls but genuine, flesh-eating ghouls. Now if this were me I'd shriek like a girl and beat it but she's much tougher than me and tries to save the man. He is gorgeous, so I guess you can't blame her. She ends up getting herself cut up pretty bad and the lovely, pale, long haired man manages to behead the ghouls without breaking a sweat. If you haven't guessed already, he's a vampire and being the noble vampire that he is, gives her a big dose of his healing vampire blood because he feels bad that she injured herself trying to save him. I found this all very sweet and fun but did have to wonder why the ghouls held him in such a precarious position in the first place. If this was all setup only to conveniently get the couple together I was going to be seriously ticked off. But there were other reasons and for that I'm grateful.
Mencheres has exposed himself to a human and he can't woo her into forgetting him with his otherworldly green glowing eyes because his magical blood is in her system. So he is forced into keeping her prisoner until the effects of his blood wear off. But it's taking much longer than he figured and he's starting to develop feelings for her. Oh noes! He needs to get back to brooding and the girl has got to go!
Seriously, I liked Mencheres and I even liked Kira a lot too. They were much better sketched out than Spade and whatshername from the first book and their attraction was also better developed. Mencheres is a lovely "I will protect you even if it means my demise" type of guy. I'm a sucker for those types. He's also a little suicidal and though I'm normally not ok with that type of behavior it works here. He's freaking ancient, he's seen and done it all (even men - note to author I would pay good money to read that book!), has lived through betrayal, lost his superpower visions, sees only darkness in his future and the poor man hasn't had sex in 900 years. 900 years, people! Would you still have the will to live? Kira gives him the will to live but he has a cloud of doom hanging over his head to make him gloriously angsty. Kira has a dying sister and a drug addled brother and her life, though much shorter than his, has been no bed of roses either. The two were well matched.
There were teensy glimpses of humor but I could've used more. I have nothing really to say about the plot which is why I can only give this book a three stars. It wasn't anything special but it wasn't horribly tedious either. I've read too many of these urban fantasies, I think. There's a big bad, he does big bad things, he tries to hurt Kira, he pays for his transgressions and Kira and Mencheres live to spend another night filled with erotic bliss.

... but viewed from Cat's eyes, I never could. This book fixed that. I loved the characters, the plot, the story. I loved how the threads of the plot came together to fill the gaps in the world we knew. And I especially loved the last two paras of the book. Somehow (and I blame how invested I became in the MC) I missed that connection even though we were practically beat over the head with it. Totally and completely worth time and money :)

Vampire tales are nothing new, but Frost does such an amazing job story telling this seems like a new one. Absolutely from the start this book sucks you into a tale of mystery, love and betrayal. The pace was fast and I never lost intrest. It is deliciously dark and sexy. Highly recommend this book. Frost weaves intriguing mesmerizing stories!

Mencheres! The story I've longed for and worth the wait!
I'm always nervous when an author has to write a character who's "as old as dirt." Four and half thousand years would create quite a difference b/w their characteristics and someone closer to human like Bones. Add into that how Mencheres is darn near powerful beyond belief, and how do you give him a challenge? Frost has written a gripping story that makes him believable, gives him a worthy love interest, and puts him in a predicament he may not can conquer. Loved it.
Here's the thing: Mencheres isn't one of those characters who falls for someone and then morphs into an entirely new person, becoming unrecognizable to those who know him. He's very believable. He's slow to let Kira and never really changes his personality or mannerisms.
Kira is a great match for him and my kind of gal because she's unabashedly honest and isn't really concerned what he thinks of her for it. They are both who they are, don't apologize for it, and don't change. Lovely.

Jeaniene Frost knocks another one out of the park, with her second Night Huntress World book. This one features the ancient Egyptian vampire Mencheres. He is essentially the uber-vampire, with powers beyond measure. But ever since he had to help kill his wife Petra, he has lost his ability to see into the future. And he fears that it's a portent of his death. Not only that, he feels like he has nothing really left to live for --and he's ready to commit suicide-by-ghoul, when a human named Kira intervenes. She witnesses the ghouls attacking Mencheres and steps in to stop them and nearly dies in the process. Once the danger has passed, Mencheres tries to wipe her memories of the supernatural from her mind, but he can't. So he brings her home, while he tries to figure out a way to erase her knowledge.
Of course, our couple is attracted to each other off the bat. But keeping their hands off each other is the least of their problems. An old enemy of Mencheres is after him, trying to usurp his powers. And he sees Kira as a golden opportunity to break Mencheres' spirit and force him to transfer his ancient gifts.
I loved this book. I didn't think I'd care for Mencheres, but I did. Frost can write sexual tension like nobody's business. And when our couple finally got around to doing the deed... W.O.W. In addition to the great romance and action, we also get the treat of time spent with Vlad, Cat & Bones. I can't wait for the next book; this series never lets me down. 5 stars.

I faltered a bit with First Drop of Crimson because Denise was such a weak heroine comparatively to the other females in the series, especially Cat. Luckily, Kira was much closer to Cat in strength, independence, and mindset. I liked learning more about Mencheres and understand his character much better now. It was nice to see some depth to him. I also thought the relationship had more substance and build up than DENISE and Spade, making it more believable and enjoyable. I still missed the banter and humor Bones and Cat deliver, but overall this was a good spin-off.

I love Mencheres, something about him has always made him one of my most beloved characters in this series . This is his story and honestly it broke my heart . Darkness is all he sees since he lost his visions, and we all missed the signs that he had given up and accepted the fate he believed was inevitable . It’s hard for me to put in words but I'm trying . If you read only one book this month let it be this one.

In which Jeaniene Frost channels Queen of the Damned Era Anne Rice and Breaking Dawn.
This is the second 'Night Huntress World' Novel. Meaning, it's part of the Cat and Bones world, but not a Cat and Bones story. In Eternal Kiss of Darkness we follow Kira--a tough and caring PI with a dark history--as well as an old favourite: dark and mysterious Mencheres. The story is told from each of the two's POV, swapping between the two.
After reading the Night Huntress novels, it is really interesting learning about Mencheres past and history. In the Cat/Bones books, we only see him through Cat's filter, and we know (fairly enough), that this is strongly coloured by her opinions on him. here we see beyond his manoeuvring and quiet composure, to previously unseen raw and vulnerable side.
After 4500 years, recent events are catching up with him. His (seriously evil) wife is finally dead, his line's future is safe under the care of Bones, and he's world weary. Rather than the unflappable demeanour we encounter through his dealings with Cat, we discover a sense of humour and a long and painful history. We also discover details of his relationships with other favourites, such as Vlad and Bones, and the deep bond of affection and love he feels for the latter, despite the hurt the two are holding against each other after recent events.
Kira's an interesting addition to the cast. It would have been easy for Frost to write a Cat 2.0, but the two are different, and I found in Kira a damaged but likable character. The attraction Kira and Mencheres have to each other is palpable, and we have a generous helping of the steamy, R-Rated scenes we've come to expect from Jeaniene Frost's novels.
What I found interesting about the book was the history. Cat and Bones aren't old. If the Night Huntress books were told from Bone's POV, we might learn more due to his close bond with Mencheres. But, as it stands, we don't know too much about the vampire race's history, government, legends, etc. The ancient Egyptian mythology, and thousands of years of history and vampire involvement scream 'Queen of the Damned' to me. Mencheres and his family remind me so much of Akasha and Enkil, and the feud between he and his uncle brought up memories of the cast of ancients from the Vampire Chronicles. The corrupt members of their governing group reminds me of the Volturi, and even the 'good guys' involved are terrifying.
EKOD is a good story, with everything you expect: intrigue, romance, betrayal, etc. There's a lot less action than you'd expect in a Cat and Bones novel, but I enjoyed this. It's a more character driven story, focusing on the relationship between Kira and Mencheres. An interesting and very-readable addition to the Night Huntress group of books, and I don't think fans will be disappointed.
My only really beef is this: EKOD is set in-between books 4 and 5 of the Night Huntress series, and while the series makes sense, you may feel like you're missing a few details if you don't read this in order. I'm all for side novels, and I loved it, but still...

This is book 2 of this series. This is apin off series and involves people known to Bones and The Red Reaper. I'd suggest reading the books in order.
Kira is a strong independent yong lady who's dream was to be a police officer. She aced her test but due to reasons im her past is instead a P.I. Her motto is save one life.. and so he does. She saves a master vamp and in the process almost dies herself. she ends up held captive at said vamp house. While held captive she learns her ill youmger siter is in intensive care. She is allowed to visit her sister and makes an agreement with her vamp captive. This is when things start getting interesting for me.
I almost did not purchase Eternal Kiss of Darkness bc I hated what Ms. Frost did to Spade in the first book of this series. I am a BIG fan of the original Reaper series and neesed a fix so I caved in and purchased Eternal Kiss of Darkness. I reccomend reading this book. It is well worth the price. zhowever I must warn you the ending was a quick wrap up.

I am pleased with the characters portrayed in this novel. The two leads,a mortal and a vampire, are not weak, stupid, unsure, or insecure as many other novels portray many of their lead characters. Neither was this overly graphic in descriptions of sexual situations. Yes, there is sex, but not enough to make you skip a few paragraphs to avoid it. There is actually a plot that is different. You don't have to wait until the last chapter for the leads to get romantically involved. Once I started reading this book I could hardly put it down. I do wish the ending evolved a little more but it was still good.

I really enjoyed Mencheres and Kira's story. It was different and had "history" to it that weren't there in the previous ones. I was happy Kira was tough, caring, loyal, protective, and a perfect match for Mencheres. We see a different side of Mencheres as his relationship builds with Kira. He's protective, careful, gentle, loving, and softer with her than in the previous books.

I liked this book much more than First Drop of Crimson. Although Cat and Bones rate at the top of my all time favorite couples, Kira and Menchere's pairing won me over. I would love to see the 4 of them take on some new adventure together. Kira's wit and determination could give Cat's snarkiness a run for the money. There is no denying Bones has all the right moves when it comes to lov'in his "Kitten", but Mencheres passion and desire for his "Dark Lady" Kira, took my breath away. Seems only right, he's had 4500 years to perfect it, and he just needed to find his true love to unleash it.
I hope that Ms. Frost finds it in her heart to give our bad boy Ian (love him), and the always amusing and lonely Vlad aka "Dracula" a chance to find love too.
The sneak peek the end of the book was great and has me counting the days until we get to spend time with Cat and Bones again!

Even though the book was compelling with the characters from the other books and the fighting going on between Mencheres and Radjedef, I found that this book was not as good as the first book, First Drop of Crimson. I liked how Kira got to know many of the characters from the Night Huntress series and how the author introduced more of Mencheres' past. It was interesting seeing a new side to Mencheres other than the very powerful grandsire front he has. The only unanswered question I have about this book is if Kira understood that Patra, Mencheres' ex-wife, was in fact Cleopatra. One thing I thought about as soon as I saw the title was, they should have did another cover and put a better picture of Mencheres. This photo makes him look really old. The inside photo of him looks better.

Mencheres' and Vlad were two characters I'd hope would get their own stories! Jeaniene succeeded to no end with Mencheres' story! I had an affinity toward him from the moment he was introduced to the series and was so very curious about him! Even more curious after finding out about Patra!
If you're choosing to purchase or just read this story, you will not go wrong! It is well worth purchasing the series or just this book (however some references will not be understood unless entire series has been read ?)!

Kia Graceling knows she is having a bad day, but doesn't know how bad until she steps into one of her worst nightmares. She lives in a bad section of town but her sense of duty won't let the cries of anguish go unanswered, so she heads into an abandoned warehouse to step onto what looks like the set of a horror movie. She does what she needs and in the end winds up being rescued by the man she set out to save, and plunged into a world of paranormal beings she never imagined.
Mencheres is a Master Vampire and old enough that he was convinced that he had seen it all, that was until the fearless and beautiful human steps in to try and save him from a band of ghouls. While he is drawn to her he also knows that if she is in his life than she will be a target and will be used to hurt him. So he does what he must and distances himself. But when circumstances bring them together and Mencheres must decide how much she really means to him, the world might not be ready for the consequences.
I have long read paranormal romances and have found many series are starting to look the same. But, not so with the Night Huntress World by Jeaniene Frost, or in particular Eternal Kiss of Darkness. I was riveted to my iPod® to hear what would happen next from quite early on, while listening to Eternal Kiss of Darkness and now I am hoping there will be more stories in this series, and soon. I think Ms. Frost brings a new, fresh look into a genre that I didn't think would happen. I love how she has tied the race to Cain and even the early Egyptians. I am intrigued by her twist to the vampire world and am looking forward to the next installment. In the meantime the highest recommendation I can give Eternal Kiss of Darkness is to Joyfully Recommend it which, I am.

Eternal Kiss of Darkness follows the romance of Mencheres (a side character from Frost's Night Huntress series) and Kira, a private investigator.
Mencheres has grown weary of life and has put into action the means for him to commit vampire suicide. At least that's his plan until Kira stumbles into his life and unwittingly saves him from going through with his first attempt.
This would have been a really boring book if it hadn't been for Mencheres and eventually Vlad. I felt Kira was way too "mary-sue" for Mencheres. I loved that she was portrayed as level-headed and strong, but nothing about her was interesting. She had no grief about her past (despite being abused by an ex-husband) and selflessly devotes a large chunk of her income towards her dying sister. Kira just had no emotional settings aside from acceptance and concern. She found out vampires existed and was like "oh okay". In fact, that was basically her reaction to everything in this story. "Oh Mencheres you can fly? I guess that's okay." "Oh, some bad ass vampire is framing you and trying to force you into killing yourself and giving him your power? Well, okay then." Rinse. Wash Repeat.
Other than that, the story was okay. I always love a Chicago setting and a large chunk of the book takes place in that area. I also really loved Mencheres penchant for water, for some reason I found it rather cute. I just really really wish that he had been paired with a more interesting female character.
I would recommend this to fans Frost's Night Huntress series, because I think that without having a familiarity with the characters from the other books some of the charm would be lost.

I’ve never been a big fan of Mencheres and I’m still not a big fan. But I enjoyed this book anyway. I didn’t really care for Kira at first, but she grew on me. I did like Mencheres and Kira together. I enjoyed the cameos from some of the other characters.

Eternal Kiss of Darkness is the second book in Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress World series, a spin-off of her Night Huntress series featuring Cat and Bones. Eternal Kiss of Darkness is the story of Mencheres, a 4,500 year old master vampire readers were first introduced to in One Foot in the Grave, the second Night Huntress novel. From Cat's point of view in the NH novels, we get the sense that Mencheres is a cold, chilled, calculating, and unemotional vampire. Cat has an unnamable sense of dislike towards Mencheres, so as a reader, at first, I did not know what to think of him. Could we really trust him as much as Bones seemed to? Why was he so guarded and unyielding? Well, Frost finally let us in to the head and world of Mencheres, and let me tell you, it was a nice change of pace.
The novel begins with Mencheres being surrounded by young ghouls seemingly about to attack him and kill him. What is odd right off the ba, is Mencheres seems to be allowing the torture even though with a small flex of his powers he could easily destroy each ghoul without even touching them. His attempt at suicide is interrupted when a human woman, Kira Graceling, enters the warehouse on her way home from work (back from a stakeout; she is a private investigator). She walks into a gruesome scene, not understanding what she sees, and the ghouls attack her. Before she got to the warehouse she had called the police and they were closing in. Not wanting the human to die as she was there in an attempt to save him, Mencheres kills the ghouls and flees the scene with Kira.
He takes her to one of his smaller homes outside of Chicago and essentially holds her captive for a week. She is immune to his mind control, so she cannot forget about the events and that is a danger he cannot afford, especially now as his millennia old feud between himself and a Law Guardian named Radjedef is coming to a head. For this one week, Mencheres observes Kira and is inexplicably drawn to her. There is obviously a pull on both sides, but neither wants to admit how deep their attraction is at first. Realizing that Kira needs to be back in her world with her sick sister, Mencheres releases her and asks that in return for helping her family she stay silent about the vampire world as she has learned several secrets over the past days of her captivity. She agrees, but there is sadness in their parting, and we know they will meet up once more.
The rest of the novel shows the development of Kira and Mencheres' feelings for one another when they are apart, and due to some of her own private investigating on the side, Kira comes face to face with Mencheres once more in a battle for her life, but this time, Radjedef is in the mix. I don't want to give too much more away as the book revolves around Kira and Mencheres' budding relationship (sorry for the cliché) and Mencheres' internal battle with losing his visions and guilt over his wife's murder and of course Radjedef, the crooked Law Guardian out to steal Mencheres' power and then kill him.
Although this was not my favorite of Frost's books (I can't help it, I'm biased towards Cat and Bones) it was nice to see a different side of Mencheres. In this novel we see how 4,500 years has made him a little numb and how suicide is tempting to such old and powerful vampires. We see that he is not cold and calculating in a menacing way, but in a way that a leader cares for his people. He avoids killing innocents, saved Kira and her sister, and has a great sense of compassion despite being jaded by all of the death and destruction he has seen over the past thousands of years.
What I enjoyed most was seeing Kira stand up to Mencheres. In the NH novels he is always a force to be reckoned with. His powers are immense and no one questions him, yet here is this 30-something human woman who isn't afraid of him and is willing to love him despite all of the evil he believes he has had a hand in. I enjoyed Kira's character even though she definitely had her stupid meddling moments. They both saved each other from their pasts, and that was what one takes away from the novel.
I can honestly say I like Mencheres now. I wasn't sure before as Cat's perspective didn't really allow for that exploration of his character. Perhaps it wasn't until we saw him care for a person outside of his current vampire world that we could get a true glimpse into the person he truly was beneath all of those years and power.
Like I stated in my earlier review of the first NHW novel, these heroes and heroines (although wonderful) are no Cat and Bones. I will still continue to read the NHW series (Vlad and Leila's series are up next), but there will never be another Cat and Bones. Frost writes so perfectly for both of those characters that her other attempts with Spade and Mencheres are good, but not great. But then again, I'm biased.

I love, love,LOVED this book. I want to have a child with this book. There is absolutely NOTHING sexier than a powerful, stoic, arrogant, and withdrawn man falling ass over heels in love. Mencheres carries the weight of the world on his shoulders and is in a very dark place at the beginning of this book. Watching him come back to the land of those with a future was one of the best journeys I have ever been own. Kira was magnificent as the heroine, strong and confident in her own abilities. Truly one of the best pairings ever. Kira enabled Mencheres to reconnect with friends he had hurt through his evasiveness. She absolutely was his life saver, but not only did she save him, she made him so much more than he was. It truly was an even partnership. Lovely, just lovely. Waiting for Vlad now.......still waiting.

WOW!! This book was riveting! I started this on last night and just finished it. If that tells you anything. I could not put this one down. It had me on edge, it was sexy, scary, intriguing, sad even.. A little. But it was action packed, to the point, but not coming off as cheesy or feeling rushed. Mencheres and Kira have great chemistry. I love kira. She was so the yin to his yang. And Vlad (aka Dracula) was hilarious!
This one had a very interesting twist on the orgins of the vampires, where they came from how it all started.(cain's seed) and I love that Mencheres was a Pharoah before he was turned. Just the history of their stories and who these characters are made me care about where they ended up and how they got there. I highly recommend this one.

The abrupt ending brought my rating down a star. It just ended. I wish that this read more like a stand alone book then a novella. It was longer and more detailed then Spade's HEA but I still felt that it was missing something. Jeaniene Frost's style is to focus on Cat & Bones and take several books to tell a complete story. Not only span time but the characters develop more with each book. So by design Mencheres' book is missing more development because she doesn't write stories that way.
So with all that said, I did like both of the main characters. I liked the conflict. I like Vlad, who is my new favorite. I would have liked more time all around but understand that it's just not her focus. So reader beware if you are expecting a story on the same level as the Cat & Bones series.

This is the second in a series of novels based in the same world as the Night Huntress series. These stories have a much larger emphasis on romance. In this book Mencheres the vampire is ready to die and leave Bones to rule. Then he meets PI Kira who throws him for a loop. As the two are forced together for some time, Mencheres jealous enemy sees his weakness for Kira and the fun begins.
I love the Night Huntress series by Jeanine Frost. It is exciting and well written. The characters are so multi-dimensional that they just come off the page. Bones and Cat have a relationship that is real and believable. Their sex scenes are HOT.
What I am finding with the Night Huntress WORLD is that I don't feel that relationship intensity here. The books are still well written and Frost in undeniably a great writer and creative world builder. I enjoyed Mancheres more than I believed possible and I even liked his love interest Kira. These tend to read more like paranormal forumla romances, like those created by Kerrelyn Sparks or Lynsay Sands. This one especially met the generic formula of human meets vamp. Human comes to terms with vamps. Vamp loves human who can't succumb to his vampire powers. Their love is threatened physically. The good guys prevail. Love triumphs and happily ever after. Even the sex scenes here were dull. This shouldn't be possible from the author who wrote the historically hot Chapter 32! If I read the word 'loins' ever again it will be too soon.
The portions of the story not focused on the love/sex aspects were fresh and engrossing. It just feels like these characters and this AMAZING world, are too big to properly be fit into this romantic and formula based series.
When I first heard Jeaniene Frost was going to give the Master Vampire Mencheres a starring role in his own book, I have to admit I was a bit turned off. In my mind, I saw Mencheres as an old, wrinkly vampire who walked around with long robes giving everyone the evil eye. But then I thought about it. This man could make someone do anything he wanted with his mind, meaning using the old mind mojo in ways a woman couldn't walk, but would have a big smile on her face after some Mencheres mind loving.
Jeaniene's vampire character Bones is one of my all time favorite paranormal romance heroes. I really didn't think Mencheres could be as worthy and sexy as Bones is. Oh how wrong I was! Mencheres is not your typical powerful immortal who walks around giving advice and lending a hand when the need arises. He's the type of person, who after surviving for over 4,500 years old, still lives by his own set of morals and even has self-esteem issues. Dare I say that Mencheres is more well rounded and dimensional than Bones? Mencheres may be able to kill someone with a blink of an eye, but this is man hurts and suffers for it. The one woman he loved (his greedy Egyptian Princess wife Patra) betrayed him and tried to destroy all that was good inside of him. Mencheres does live his life on his own terms, but instead of embracing that darkness and ruling over all the weaker undead with an iron fist, he surrounds himself with those who care for him and has made his own close knit family. Now Mencheres has a new outlook on life all due to one plucky woman who was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Kira Graceling has a crappy job working as a private investigator in Chicago. She basically keeps an eye out on cheating husbands. As she's walking home late one night from her latest job, she comes across a man being attacked. She tries to save him and is almost killed in the process. The man is Mencheres, who was in the middle of battling a few nasty ghouls due to his old enemy, Radje, who hides behind his role as a Vampire Law Guardian. Mencheres would love nothing more than to get rid of Radje, but if he does, he'll be marked for death and not even his own god defying powers can save him.
Mencheres saves Kira from death with a little vampire TLC, meaning giving Kira his blood to drink. Mencheres brings Kira home to recover, and when she awakens she's told that she can't leave. It seems Kira is immune to Mencheres' power. Kira is angry and refuses to be kept in some golden palace with the very handsome Mencheres. He's all out of sorts because most people cower before him, but not Kira. Mencheres and Kira come to an agreement, where she'll stay with him until she is susceptible to his mind powers. Kira is more than worried because she has a very sick sister to take care of and a drug addicted loser of a brother who only comes around for money. As Mencheres gets to know Kira better, he decides he can't keep her with him, even though he feels at peace with her around. His next decision regarding Kira starts a change of unfortunate events for her. Radje has forced his hand and Kira is the collateral damage.
Eternal Kiss of Darkness is perfect for fans of smoldering, angsty vampire heroes and the dangerous world they inhabit. Mencheres does dance the angsty mambo from time to time, but Jeaniene makes sure he's not going to walk into the sunlight just because he is all guilt stricken. Mencheres enjoys the lifestyle he has grown accustomed to, and is much like a vampire dictator, but a very merciful one. This is one vampire who is very respectful and doesn't cross lines, especially when it comes to Kira. Kira comes from the life of hard knocks and even though she and Mencheres are two totally different people, they mesh together perfectly. Kira can be a bit too vocal at times, where I wanted to tune her off, and she tends to go off without any concern for her safety. But when her life is turned upside down because of Mencheres, she handles it in a realistic manner.
The chemistry and sexual tension between Mencheres and Kira is hot. Mencheres takes cradle rocking to a whole new level. After reading Eternal Kiss of Darkness, you'll come to think of Disneyland in an entirely different way. Jeaniene brings the vampire sex kink to the happiest place on earth with wonderful results. Mencheres is not only skilled with some fun against a wall, but he also puts the ceiling above to good use.
Reading a Jeaniene Frost novel is like coming home to old friends. Mencheres' tender and loving nature, as well as his way of taking control of a situation, both in battle and in the bedroom (or in the underground caverns of Disney) makes for fun reading. Eternal Kiss of Darkness is a solid read all around and I look forward to more adventures between Mencheres and Kira.

We met ancient master vampire Mencheres in the previous Night Huntress (aka Cat & Bones) books, and it's a good idea to read the first four books in that series before starting this book. Around 4000 years old, Mencheres is one of the oldest and most powerful vampires on the planet. In a previous book, he shared his powers with Bones and they merged their lines, becoming co-rulers. Mencheres' estranged wife Patra was the enemy in one of the previous books. Mencheres has been portrayed as a mysterious and interesting character, and I've looked forward to reading his story.
In Eternal Kiss of Darkness, Mencheres faces off against an old enemy Radje who wants to kill him and take his powers. But it's not an upfront fight--Radje uses many underhanded methods which makes for an engrossing plot full of twists and turns. We get to see old favorites like Bones, Cat and Vlad, as well as a new one in Kira, Mencheres' love interest. Kira begins the story as a human private detective, who is thrown into the supernatural world due to an act of kindness on her part.
Mencheres and Kira are both great characters. Frost did a much better job with character development in this book than in the last book First Drop of Crimson. I felt like I got to know them and connected with them. Kira is strong, smart, sassy, caring, and overall appealing as a lead heroine--a good partner for Mencheres. I enjoyed learning more about Mencheres and his ancient Egyptian background. Although this book wasn't as sexy as the Cat/Bones books, the romantic relationship was well developed and fun to read about. And I liked the explantations given about Mencheres' role in the previous Gregor/Cat mess. Some of his previous decisions made me question him, but the explanations in this book made me understand those decisions better.
Although it started a little slow, this book picked up speed and ended up being a great read. It's an entertaining mix of suspense, action, humor, romance and mystery. With such a big character in Mencheres, I had worried this book would be hard to pull off. That's happened recently in some other paranormal romance series like Dark Hunters (Acheron) and Breeds (Jonas). Some fans felt those books didn't live up to their expectations because the characters had such big roles. Luckily, that wasn't the case with Eternal Kiss of Darkness. Mencheres story and his love interest lived up to my expecations for his character. Great job Ms. Frost!
One key area I would have liked improvement was the ending. Although it was a good ending, it seemed a little abrupt. I would have liked an epilogue or maybe a different way of handling that chapter to wrap it up a bit more. (I can't really explain more than that b/c it'd be a spoiler.)
Bones and Cat remain my favorite characters, so I'm looking forward to their next book The Other Side of the Grave (Night Huntress #5) which will be out Spring 2011. Vlad remains one of my other favorite characters, and I remain hopeful that he will be the focus of a future Night Huntress World story.

This is an enjoyable story. The first in this spinoff series, First Drop of Crimson, was a little disappointing. Ms. Frost set the bar for paranormal romance so high with her Cat and Bones novels that the expectations I had for the spinoff series were almost guaranteed not to be met. The relationship between Spade and Denise in the first book lacked a romantic connection for me. I didn't feel they truly cared for one another as much as they proclaimed, and their passion was several significant notches below that of Cat and Bones.
The relationship between Kira and Mencheres is much more believable. Mencheres is often a side character in the Night Huntress novels, and in that role he's always been rather aloof. He exists with a veil of detachment, appearing emotionally vacant while being genetically superior. I was curious to see if that emotive disconnect would persist when he became a leading protagonist. I profess to being pleasantly surprised.
We get a peek into life as a Master vampire, a little slice of the loneliness that permeates his existence despite being surrounded by servants, friends, and humans serving as his property. His power and status among vampires naturally draws the power-hungry and aggressively ambitious, and he must deal with those who only seek out his company in the hopes of bettering themselves. Because of all the endless, monotonous enterprising, his detachment begins to make sense and we are able to empathize with his circumstances on a deeper and more thorough level.
Kira is as strong willed as they come. So strong in fact that she is immune to Mencheres's mind control, a capability he finds both exasperating and attractive. She isn't your typical damsel in distress who comes across a monster in the night and adamantly refuses to believe in its existence despite the obvious evidence to the contrary. She doesn't continually question what she sees, doesn't get swept up in a wave of denial, but rather accepts what she faces with a calm resignation. She can be a little too self-assured at times, her insistence that she's always correct a little grating, but overall she is a good match for Mencheres mentally and emotionally.
Though the plot isn't anything groundbreaking or astounding in it's creativity, it does move quickly in typical Frost fashion, leaving readers at the bottom of the last page wondering how they got there so fast. Her style of writing is as appealing as ever, and I always look forward to whatever she has in store for her fans. Here's hoping we get to see a little more of side characters Vlad and Ian in future installments.

Eternal Kiss of Darkness (Book 2 of Night Huntress World series) had me from the very first page. The characters are strong, well developed and smolder on the pages. Mencheres is so sexy and the only thing missing is to have more storyline with him and Kira after they recognized their love for one another. Kira is a strong, sexy, modern woman who is perfect as a vampire finding her perfect mate. What I really appreciate is that Kira doesn't whine about being turned into a vampire, but embraces her new nature along with the man she loves. The plot is intriguing with a lot of action that brings everything together into a book that I could not put down. I devoured this book and was left wanting more.
Cons: no link of the Mencheres character in Book 1 of the Night Huntress World series, First Drop of Crimson, which I find VERY disappointing. As a result the continuity is disrupted in the storyline, i.e. Mencheres. However, I do appreciate having central characters introduced earlier in the Night Huntress series books. If this is truly going to be a parallel series, which is my hope, please ensure keeping characters cross populated in the storylines.
Can't wait for the next part of the storyline in the Night Huntress World series and see more of what Mencheres and Kira another favorite duo along with cat and Bones are up to. Tex. Eternal Kiss of Darkness

Ancient Egyptian Master Vampire Mencheres believes his life is coming to an end. Ti protects those he cherishes from an in family civil war to replace him by designating Bones as his co-ruler; especially since he expects a life and death showdown with his enemy Radjedef.
In Chicago, Ghouls seemingly have trapped Mencheres, but mortal private investigator Kira Graceling saves his life; at least she thinks so when she courageously dives into the fight. Stunned by the mortal's bravery, Mencheres finds himself dazzled by Kira who is attracted to him though fearful of the strange world she discovered when she jumped into his fight. However, as he now has a reason to live, he fears her distraction and attraction will kill both of them.
The second sidebar spin-off from the superb Night Huntress saga (see First Drop of Crimson) is a great urban fantasy as the Master vampire falls in love at an extremely bad time. Filled with action, as Mencheres tries to keep his beloved from becoming a pawn in the death match with his adversary a great risk to his existence, Jeaniene Frost continues to be one of the sub-genre's top Master mages.

This is a stand-alone book in the Night Huntress World spin-off series. Therefore, I do not find it necessary for you to be familiar with Jeaniene's Night Huntress series in order to follow along with this story; however, I do highly recommend her Night Huntress series.
Mencheres' finally gets a chance to tell his story. His deliciously dark, powerful and mysterious character has always intrigued me. It's easy to see where the plot was headed through most of this story, similar to the Cat and Bones novels. However, Jeaniene told it in such a fashion that the story just seizes hold of your attention and completely monopolizes your time, until you've greedily gobbled this book up. I don't believe that there are other Nigh Huntress World books slated at this time but I sure hope Jeaniene gets to expand this series in the near future.
For those wondering what genre this book falls into, I would say it's a romantic dark urban fantasy. I highly recommend this book to Cat & Bones fans, and also fellow dark urban fantasy readers. I also look forward to the Cat and Bones book 6 This Side Of The Grave due out 2/22/2011.
I also recommend:
First Drop of Crimson (Night Huntress World, Book 1)
Halfway to the Grave (Night Huntress, Book 1)
Ravenous: The Dark Forgotten
Blood Song
Blood Law: A Novel

First of all, I have always liked Mencheres. I never shared Cat's feelings of uneasy or "weirdness" around him. I really liked him from when he was introduced. I had also always felt that his impassiveness in even the most 'need emotion' (I guess you could put it that way) situation was just a ploy to not be taken for vulnerable. I always knew he had a good soul, heart, and vibe. Even when he admitted to erasing Cat's memory at sixteen, I knew that her power really wasn't the whole reason for it. So when I started into this book and got into his emotions, I was very satisfied that I was right and proved Cat wrong (Sorry Cat,still love you). Kira, I loved Kira. She was strong hearted and had good intentions and could break down those walls Mencheres had built in front of his emotions. She had always wanted to be a cop and was headstrong about what she wanted. Very strong girl. They are honestly perfect for each other, and not just because she could work her way into his heart like no other person could; she also got these "feeligns" and about what is going to happen.See? Perfect! Also, something that should have been obvious to me through the whole book was that Kira's name means "darkness", and what did Mencheres see coming his way? Darkness. I loved that twist. Just another reason they are perfect. This book is among the other AMAZING books of Jeaniene Frost's supernatural world, and I LOVED it. I would definitely recommend anyone to read this (but you need to read the first four Night Huntress Books first, and probably the first spin-off too). It is emotional, suspenseful, action-packed, and every time Mencheres thought of and welcomed his death I wanted to slap him and say "No! You are going to live, cut that out!"

Mencheres was not high on my list, but after this book and the way he behaved while in love we can clearly see that he was just turned of the actions his wife created. I loved seeing this side of him and the discoveries while hiding. It’s nice not to know everything that’s about to happen. His Egyptian and there’s way too much story behind him, I never would had imagined him as a pharaoh.
I liked Kira and her way of helping people and avenging those wrongs. She’s a really strong woman and Mencheres deserved someone like her to show the world can be different and that selfish bitch that almost killed Bones. Kira is full of life, but at the same time she knows how humans are dangerous. I liked that she didn’t get completely scared, but she also can understand this different world. Her changing was a bit abrupt, but in a way, was better than waiting forever.
I didn’t understand the point of having a Law, when not even the vampires working for it use it clearly. But I love to see more of Vlad and the couple of Cat and Bones.

After setting up Mencheres as this mysterious figure, I thought this book would really delve into who he is and what he's about. Instead, we get almost no back story, no delving, and have to deal with his semi-depression for most of the book. And his draw to Kira was inexplicable, his "history" with Radje forced, and the story altogether needed a whole series of its own to properly flesh out. And after 900 years of celibacy...you'd think you'd get a peak into Mencheres' mind after he finally broke that record.

This was one of the better books by this author - good plot idea, great pacing and steam scenes, realistic relationships and characterization, just really well-done in almost every respect. (And kudos, again, to the author for not using the overdone jealousy theme so prevalent in the original series.) The only thing that could've made it better was extending the ending a little more (it was a too abrupt), or providing an epilogue to provide more closure for Mencheres and Kira. It wasn't enough to take away a star, though. Well done - looking forward to the next one! :)

Once again, Ms. Frost has created a combination thriller, romance, paranormal novel with fully-developed characters you care about. While Cat & Bones and Spade & Denise are my favorite couples, this novel introduced us to a new leading female character who was strong and smart like those in other Night Huntress and Night Huntress world novels. I am looking forward to the next in this series, hoping that Ian will find someone who can bring out his redeeming characters (he does have some, right?). This novel can be read as part of the series or as a stand-alone.

So glad to read Menchares and Kira's story. When I first read about them in the Night Huntress I was really curious. I loved getting to know Menchares better, and I really liked how we got to read a bit from both of their perspectives.

I'm not going to recap the storyline because others have done it already. I liked Mencheres' book much better than the first book of this spin off series (Spade's). In the previous book, Spade's character was like reading about a totally different person than was originally introduced in the Night Huntress Series. Mencheres' personality and motivations from the previous Cat & Bones books is carried forth and explained. I always liked Mencheres because he didn't automatically feel as though he needed Cat's approval and acceptance upon meeting her like every other male in the Night Huntress series so far.
My problems with this book are the pacing and repetitive dialogue. The book starts off really slow to the point of being painfully boring. And Kira was rather annoying at first asking 10 questions every five paragraphs: Who's this? What's that? Why? Why? Why? I wonder about this? I wonder about that? And what about this other thing over there? Good grief. I almost threw the book across the room several times. It was like reading from the point of view of a 7-year old. Also, the book read like the middle of the book was written first and the beginning and end tacked on afterward. Which brings me to the repetitive dialogue. Ok, this is a problem that has carried on from the first book. Once a character has made a statement, I don't need it repeated back to me by the person he or she was speaking to 3 pages later. This slows the pacing down to a crawl re-reading the same things that were just said repeatedly.
This wasn't a perfect book, but it was an improvement over the previous book which was just awkward on just about every level. Oh, and this is a minor nit to pick but, the cover of "Eternal Kiss Of Darkness" was ruined by the horribly photoshopped blood drops -- very cheesy and cheap looking.

I loved the first couple Bones and Cat books, I was a little disappointed with the later Cat/Bones books, but that's just me. So I was hesitant to pick up her new Night Huntress World book when First Drop of Crimson came out. It was different then Cat's book, but that's good because Denise isn't Cat. In fact I thought she was a rather poor main character. The second book Eternal Kiss of Darkness is about Kira, who is bad ass like Cat is. The hero is Mencheres which hooked me into reading this book.
Ok Plot time, Mencheres is ordered to kill Kira by a Law Guardian, unfortunately for everyone involved Mencheres feels drawn to Kira and finds himself protecting her rather than following orders. It's a good thing that he is one of the most butt kicking, powerful vampires, because the two of them just gained more enemies. Cat and Bones make an appearance in this book, but they are a little bit snotty and interfering. It was odd seeing them from an outside perspective, and one that didn't paint them to be as perfect as they seemingly are. Something Jeaniene Frost is excellent at is her action and violence scenes, this book is no exception, there is a lot of butt kicking, ghoul eating, and fighting to keep the book up and running. There are a couple of problems though, one is Cat and Bones and how they are portrayed, but another is that Kira is immune to the great all knowning Mencheres' mind reading. Now it wouldn't be so bad if there were a few other people who are immune as well, especially if they are human. It seems a little too convenient that Mencheres has to work for his human and can't read only her mind. Seems reminiscent of a few other characters that I will not name, but Frost is better than this. The second book is a lot more interesting then the first, and I loved seeing Mencheres' past. The Third book in her Night Huntress World comes out in October, and if each books gets better, this one should be good.

I really like the story of Mencheres and Kira. I liked Kira’s strength and ability to take care of herself. One thing I’ve gotten a little tired of in some of Jeanine Frosts other books is the heroine constantly needing to be rescued. I felt like Kira was strong and smart and didn’t need anyone to take care of her. A worthy partner for Mencheres.

After finally reading Eternal Kiss of Darkness, I am happy to say I was quite pleased with this one. Even with this book being the story of most readers least favorite characters, Mencheres, I found myself falling in love with this guy. Frost gives a great background on why he's behaved the way he has throughout all the other books. I found myself actually liking him because of the things he did solely because of the reasons he behaved so badly. The heroine was strong but for a reason. It seems that some strong women in books ate just strong. Kira, however, had things in her life that made her strong or at the least things that caused her to put up a strong front. I was much happier with the events that lead Kira to the supernatural world than I was to Denise's in the first book. It was believable and heart breaking at the same time. It was great how this event fueled the rest of the story in such a believable way.
What I liked about this story was the character development. To take a pretty unliked character, give the back story of why he's done the things he's done and show his regret and self condemning was well handled. The supporting characters brought in from previous books were true to their original natures and added more than just a cameo appearance in this story. They added sustenance not only to the story but growth to themselves. (Especially, Vlad).
I was disappointed by the last two Frost books but i thoroughly enjoyed this book. Frost went back to her roots with this one and the pacing, humor, and story line was just right. Now I'm once again looking forward to the next Night Huntress book, This Side of the Grave. (Which I'm presently reading)

Mecheres, master vampire, is over 4,500 years old and has had enough of the undead life. With his viscous wife murdered recently, and his power to see the future gone he is done. Although with his wife's death it has allowed him freedom to pursue other lovers, no one has tempted him. No one has ignited any sort of passion in him. With his co-ruler Bones now firmly in place as head of his line, and his wife Cat with many powers of her own, now is the time to head into the darkness. He has found himself in a warehouse letting Ghouls slowly best him.
Kira is a private investigator coming home from a stakeout very early one morning. Just about as the sun makes its appearance on the horizon, she hears odd noises coming from a warehouse she is walking by. Unable to ignore, she rushes in to see a man with so many wounds he should be dead. Sensing fresh meat, the ghouls flee to her. Mencheres knows he shouldn't do anything, but he can't help but go into action knowing she tried to save him. Kira sees his fangs, and the life ending bites the ghouls make before she succumbs to her own injuries.
When she wakes, she is perfectly healed, and held captive by Mencheres. He promises her no harm, but refuses to let her go until he is able to erase her memories. Problem is, the simple task of mesmerizing her is not working. He tells her to give it a week's time to let the effects of his blood leave her system. During this week, they come to know each other and to each of their surprise, find many attributes that provide a great basis for attraction.
To add to the complications, Mencheres's long-standing nemesis, Radjedef wants revenge. Mencheres and Radje have been playing cat and mouse for as long a Mencheres can remember. Radje feels stilted out of getting some of Mencheres' superior power and when Radje gets wind that Mencheres has a lover, all bets are off.
I was a bit hesitant to read Eternal Kiss of Darkness. I adore Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress series but her first spin off, featuring Spade, The First Drop of Crimson disappointed me. I felt a lack of chemistry between Spade and Denise. I was very curious to read about Mencheres as a romantic hero though- having only seen his much more serious side in the Night Huntress books. I ended this very satisfied by his story.
Kira tried to save Mencheres without knowing a thing about him. No one had ever done something like that for him without ulterior motives - ever. Mencheres finds himself telling Kira secrets, laughing, joking, ogling her breasts - things he hasn't done or thought of for years.
Kira ends up liking Mencheres not because of his status as a master vampire or his wealth, but just for his actions. He may try to dissuade her initially from a relationship to keep her safe, but his lust can not be kept in check for long. Mencheres was locked in an awful marriage for centuries and he finally has a chance at true love. There are many moments where he looks upon Kira with such tender, almost unbelievable feelings. He must convince himself he deserves this - after 4500 years as vampire, bad deeds have been done. I had a hard time picturing Mencheres in his twenties - at one point when he puts his hair up and wears a hat he is described as looking even younger. In my mind he is firmly in his his mid-forties - because you know, those extra twenty years is crucial to reconcile his age to being a 4500 year old. No, I don't know why it was hard for me to see him as a young guy and it really has no effect on his character. But it is something that stood out to me each time his appearance is mentioned.
I also enjoyed Kira, although there were a few times where her high and mighty attitude towards other powerful vampires seemed a bit much. She very much wanted to protect Mencheres, but at times I think she needed to take it down a notch. Otherwise, I liked how she comes to accept the presence of the supernaturals and her undying support of Mencheres, whom she meets at the end of his rope, was impressive.
We see familiar faces in Bones, Cat and Vlad (oh, do I love Vlad). The villain in this one is fun because he is such an integral part of Mencheres's life. He strolls into his house for a chat and he is a very personal villain, not one on the outskirts of the story. He is very evil though as well, and the climax at the end is done well.
And I can't end the review without mentioning the smex. Mecheres has been denied sex for a very long time, and that amounts to a very passionate vampire in the bedroom. I seriously love Jeanine Frost's romance scenes - plus in this book she gives us ceiling sex. Does it get better?

I really liked Mencheres and Kira was a strong heroine. It helped explained a lot of the history....and seriously what's not to love about a very very old vampire, the things you could learn about the world and him and the things he saw during his life and i just loved him, not like Vlad, oh no, Vlad is something else, but Mencheres, you look at him like a father figure. Really good

I'm really glad there is a book about Mencheres because I have liked him in the Cat & Bones Night Huntress books. He is a very interesting character and I really enjoyed reading more about his history and origin of enormous power. The heroine Kira in the book is very likable, although she has a tendency to get herself in trouble by becoming over involved. But she has great heart and understanding and I enjoyed reading about her relationship with Mencheres. The only reason I didn't give this book 5 stars was because if compared to the Cat & Bones books, it's not quite up to that standard. For one thing, the author has written Bones as a totally irresistible scroundrel, so it would be hard for anyone to measure up to him and the dynamic with Cat. Mencheres is pretty hot too, but he's SOOOO serious and I'd like to see him lighten up more and have a sense of humor the way Bones does. I also find it a little unbelievable that this hot vamp (Mencheres) has been celebate for 900 years.
I really loved that Cat & Bones were included in the storyline and the teaser of their next book at the end. Jeaniene Frost continues to be my favorite read.

I ABSOLUTELY adore the Night Huntress Novels. I've been reading the N.H. World novels to mind my time until the next N.H book comes out. You have to read the Night Huntress novels in order to understand the layout, characters and the lack of world building in this series. She wrote these to kinda mesh the two series together without changing the POV in the original series. I like these books I just prefer Cat and Bones to the other characters. I love Frost's writing style she is creative and witty. Definitely recommend her books :)

I picked up this book based on the cover title/picture and the blurb on the back, having never read any of the other books in the series. Turns out the cover models don't quite fit the character descriptions of Mencheres and Kira, but that happens sometimes.
The novel is fast-paced and intriguing. The writing features many of the romance genre cliches that some readers love, but there are some surprising twists. The lead is slightly older than many heroines (early 30s) and is divorced. She is a P.I. and trained to be a cop, so she doesn't just stand around as a damsel in distress. I like that Kira was spunky and an equal match for Mencheres.
The quality of this novel has made me want to check out the rest of them.
Recommended read if you like vampire romances with capable lead females.

I've always wondered about the world from other character's perspectives. J-Frost does a wonderful job of telling different stories with different character types. It's nice to know Person B in Person A's novel doesn't just stop existing after Person A changes scenes.
With each story unique, but occasionally interweaving, it's like J-Frost is just watching the events from the sidelines and reporting on what happens.

I just started reading Jeanine Frost a couple of months ago, I have read all the books so far, and they just keep getting better! I couldnt put this one down!..I love all her characters and Mencheres is one of my favorites...He is the most powerful leader, can kill without even touching, and we have found out that he is very compassionate also....Kira was perfect for him and boy, I love her character also, she was so brave and thought things through, never got hysterical even though she was put through many bad siuations...I loved her!! ...I also loved the Disneyland parts, as I was just there a few months back, I can picture perfectly exactly where they were! (except in the underground places!!)...The book did end alittle abruptly, maybe she could have written an epilogue...I highly recommend this book and cant wait for the next one!! I hope she continues to write the other books ( Night Huntress world) and not only the Cat and Bones books....

Arrggh hahah but it makes for wonderful commutes.. I live in LA and now I see traffic snarls as more Cat and Bones time yayyyyy

Eternal Kiss of Darkness was another great book by Jeaniene Frost!
We finally get to see another side of the composed, ever in control Mencheres.
I really loved Kira as well, a strong, independent woman who accidentally meets Mencheres and is thrown into the vampire world and all it's dangers.
As with all Jeaniene Frost's books I'm hooked from the first page and loving it till the end.

I always pictured Mencheres much older than he was. Human age that is :). I guess I felt him described more older. So I was curious how his story would turn out.
I liked it. He made a great hero. It was nice to get a look into his past and what makes him tick.
Older than dirt indeed :)

This book was good, a little hard to understand at the beginning but it comes together. I guess I personally never would have thought that Mencheres was feeling so low, that he did what he did but I am sort of glad he did because he found love again! I am very pleased with this book, I wish she would write another book about their lives.

I love the Night Huntress world. As a huge fan of Cat and Bones, I was EXTREMELY excited when I heard that the author was going to branch out and write stories for some of the secondary characters of the series. I was particularly excited when I found out that Mencheres was getting his own book and KNEW deep in my heart that he would be an incredible read. Hmm surprise surprise I learned that I should always trust my instincts because he was indeed FABULOUS.
Where to start? How about with the obvious - I loved this book. I don't think there was anywhere in the book that I wasn't engrossed in and I carried this book everywhere so that any small break in the day I could whip it out and quickly read. I love the way Jeaniene Frost writes and the storylines she creates. Isn't it just the way Fate works that right when you think you have nothing left to give, nothing left to hold onto for, she steps in and gives you a reason for living. Mencheres felt he had run out of time and once he had put his affairs in order, was ready to back out and move on to the next world. Of course, that couldn't happen (we love him too much) and Fate stepped in and sent him Kira. The story takes off and leads the reader on a chase with both these wonderful characters as they realize what they mean to each other and to also stop one vindicative, revenge bent vampire Guardian from completely destroying Menecheres for his incredible power. From beginning to end, I was completely engrossed.
Mencheres, to me, was a very obvious choice to devote a book to and I loved learning about some of his history and getting a REALLY good look inside his head. In the other books, Mencheres always seemed like this mysteriously powerful vampire who glided in and out of the story but always leaving the reader wanting to know a little more. I love Old World characters with all their charm and mannerisms and you can't get any more Old World than Mencheres. At over 4000 years old (older than dirt), he's seen and experienced it all. He's had an incredibly long time to learn patience and control and as the Master of his line and the receiver of visions, he has had to shoulder an amazingly heavy weight of responsibility. I loved the way he thought and the mastery he had over himself. I loved that 4000 years of experience had in no way prepared him for the whirlwind of Kira and of that moment when he realized he wanted Kira in his life and future regardless of what that future held. He is an incredibly sexy vampire (just the way I like them too..of course) and he had me melting all over the place. Perfect character to meet all my paranormal romance needs and cravings.
Kira more than met my expectations for a leading role and equal match for the powerhouse of Mencheres. She is this amazingly strong character who no matter what was happening was able to honor her feelings but also control them and not let them control her. She was able to work through the revelation that the paranormal existed and did what she needed to protect the ones she loved. I loved how she refused to let Mencheres back away, that she fought for him to let go of what he thought might be happening with his powers (for example) and show him there were other manageable alternative reasons. I applauded her for the ability she had to stand up for the truth regardless of whether it put her life in danger if it meant that it saved the man she loved. Incredible character to read.
This is the part of the review where I suggest you go get something to fan yourself with. What is a romance with at least one steamy sex scene? You may have heard rumors or others talking about the ceiling scene. I'm going to tell you THEY WERE ALL TRUE!! OMGSH I'm surprised my house didn't burn to the ground. That scene SCORCHED and SIZZLED and had my toes CURLING. Can I say it again... OMGSH!! You knew straight away from reading Mencheres that he would undoubtedly be a phenomenal lover with the ability to bring intense pleasure. You were able to see from the passion that Kira held for life, that she would meet Mencheres passion with her own. Put those together and you get one of the best sex scenes I've read this year. I sat and reread that one scene (because face it, I have the obligation to review it properly right? ROFL) and I'm surprised I didn't short circuit. All I can say for those who plan on reading the book, sit by the fan, wrap up in a icy wet towel, have something cold to drink near by and if you have a significant other ... keep them nearby too. HOT!
Just as a side note, I loved that Vlad was also featured in this book because I love being able to get little snippets of him. There's just something about him that catches my attention and I'm hoping that he's the next vampire to get his own book. I can't even begin to imagine what kind of read THAT would be. Nothing beats reading about Dracula himself.
This really is a satisfying read and great addition to the Night Huntress world. It's a definite keeper and one at least I'll be rereading over and over again. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

I have a thing for the tall, dark and mysterious Mencheres which is why I picked this book up even after being very disappointed by the Spade/Denise book. What made me want to see more of this storyline is that Kira, unlike Denise, isn't a helpless halfwit. Mentally she is as wise as Mencheres and while no where near the ass kicking warrior of Cat, isn't a slouch in this department either. There is something very sweet about the M/K romance and maybe more real to me than even the Cat/Bones relationship which seems to have evolved into just fight the bad guys/argue/sex.
At the risk of facing the wrath of all the Cat/Bones fans (and for books 1-2, I am one of them), I really think the storyline about that pair has been exhausted. I think there's definitely more unexplored territory with M/K that Ms. Frost, with her excellent writing skills could mine.

Love the book!
The story was absolutely riveting. I read the book in a day, and then re-read it again! The Master vampire Mencheres, which I just knew had to have an interesting story-line, since he was portrayed as such a bad-guy, had his chance to shine in this book. I fell in love with his character, and Kira's too, and definitely wanted the story never to end. His relationship with Kira and his powers as well as his life-line (haveing been a former Pharoah), is something I would like to read more about. This book is definitely a winner. I kind of hope there are books on Ian and Vlad later on in the series. It would be kind of interesting to see those characters evolved as well.

I'm going to start by saying the book really deserves 3.5 stars, however the store doesn't allow for half stars. There are a lot of things I really liked about the story and some that didn't wow me.
Private Investigator Kira Graceling is walking through a rough neighborhood after a late night stake-out when she hears the sounds of someone in trouble. She thinks about just walking by but knows the police won't arrive in time to save the person's life so she rushes into a condemned warehouse to help. Four thousand year-old co-master vampire Mencheres isn't really in trouble, but he's about to be. When a feud that's lasted for thousands of years spills over into Kira's life, Mencheres feels the need to protect her, but ends up putting her life in jeopardy. Can Mencheres gain the help he needs from his friends to save the love of his life?
Likes:
1. Mencheres is much more than the heartless vampire that was introduced to us in the Cat & Bones storyline. We are given insights into his marriage with Patra, why he killed her lover, and why he's certain he's facing death.
2. The female lead (Kira) isn't a pathetic human who can't fend for herself. She was trained to be a cop and, though that didn't work out, still is able to provide rational solutions in a world she doesn't understand.
3. There are new characters introduced that give us more insight into vampire politics.
4. The villian is a villian for very human reasons. He's jealous, plain and simple. Much better reason than the demon had in First Drop of Crimson.
Dislikes:
1. After having read the first two chapters, I had to check the front cover (which, by the way, is poorly photoshopped) to make sure that it had really been written by Jeaniene Frost and not Stephanie Myers. The whole I-can't-read-your-mind thing is a little overdone. Several other instances in the book made me wonder if Jeaniene had read Twilight series before writing this novel.
2. The research is poorly done. I LOVE the fact that the author wrote in a character with Cystic Fibrosis, but it's obvious that she didn't talk to anyone who actually has the disease (or anyone in CF care). Yes, it's true that caregivers used to have to pound the back of the patients to break up mucus, but nowadays it's done by the Vest Clearance System, the Acapella device, or just by huff-coughing, very rarely is it ever done by hand. Also female CF patients aren't sterile, as she has written it in the book (95% of males are, however). They might miscarry if they are very sick, but they are able to have kids.
3. I love the Cat & Bones stories, but throwing them in this spin-off series just isn't working for me. I can't wait until their next novel arrives because I feel as if they are being short-changed in the Spade/Mencheres stories. In First Drop of Crimson, it seems as though Cat would abandon her best friend, though that's not how she seems to be in her novels. In Eternal Kiss of Darkness, Cat just seems out of place, while Bones just keeps moaning, "No, don't do it (figuratively, of course)."
For me, the likes outweight the dislikes, but I'd like to see more from this series. Hopefully there will be books for both Tepesh and Ian.

I loves me some Jeanene Frost. HAHA This woman can write a book! Cat is the best character, and Bones yum yum! This book is a kind of spin off from her Night Huntress books and is just as good. Cant wait for her next book. She will make you laugh, she will make you cry, yes cry over a vampire and zombies. I highly recommend Jeanene Frost.

Plot Summary: Mencheres is one of the most ancient and powerful vampires in existence, and he is feared and respected, but never loved. He was alive to see the Great Pyramids built, and now he wants to thwart his ancient enemy and seek death. Before he can carry out his plan, a little complication name Kiera Graceling pops up at an inopportune moment, and he finds that she's immune to his mesmerizing power. When he finally returns Kiera to her normal sphere, she finds that she misses him, and vice versa. While tracking Mencheres down, Kiera stumbles into a bad situation that turns deadly for Mencheres when he's framed for a crime. Hunted by his race's own Enforcers, Mencheres and Kiera must clear his name, because suddenly he's found a new reason to live again.
(NIGHT HUNTRESS WORLD: BOOK 2)
Early on, Eternal Kiss of Darkness didn't look promising. Jeaniene Frost is one of my favorite paranormal romance writers, but there I was, 30 pages into this novel, and I was becoming bored and cranky.
There's Mencheres, a character who resembles a wooden, cigar-store totem, and he's looking forward to sweet death after 4500 years of living. Okay, I can understand that. The only thing keeping him alive is this woman who is immune to his mesmerizing powers because he saved her life with some of his blood. Their conversations resembled the game 20 Questions, and Mencheres keeps marveling that he enjoys talking to her so much. If that's his idea of good conversation, I can see why he longs for death. There's was nothing sparkling about their dialog, and so I couldn't buy into his burgeoning interest in Kira. This is literally as good as it gets the whole way through:
"So, Mencheres the Egyptian vampire, are you really old, or are you as young as you look?"
He gave her a sideways look as he began walking back toward the house, feeling the oddest pang as he contemplated their age difference. "I'm older than dirt," he answered dryly.
"A vampire with a sense of humor. I really didn't know that existed," she quipped with equal dryness.
What's more, this line about being "older than dirt" keeps coming back several times, but instead of relishing this inside joke, I just kept mourning that this was the best line in the whole book. By the end, I had banished my inner snark monster and I treated it like a summer blockbuster movie; it was satisfying when the action picked up, but it was fairly empty entertainment for a romance. I didn't feel any sparks between Mencheres and Kiera, try though I might, and so my favorite parts included the more lively characters like Vlad, Bones, and Cat.
I will definitely hang around to hear Vlad's story, because I think he's one of Ms. Frost's most brilliant creations (the other being Bones), but the magic was missing with Mencheres.

I really enjoyed this one, just as much as Denise and Spade's book. So far, the Night Huntress World series is just as much fun as the original Night Huntress books. I especially like that each book can stand alone, with no cliffhangers from book to book.

I've really enjoyed the Night Huntress books (Cat & Bones) but was sorely disappointed with the first Night Huntress World spin-off book First Drop of Crimson (Night Huntress World, Book 1). It left me feeling flat and disappointed. So it was with some trepidation that I picked up book 2 in the Spin-off Series. Mencheres was never a favorite (let alone a well liked) character for me, so it was yet another reason I wasn't really excited about this book. The beginning of the book was slightly boring to me, but it quickly picked up and turned into a great adventure and unique storyline. The hero and heroine, Mencheres and Kira, were well done and fleshed out unlike Spade and Denise from First Drop of Crimson.
What I really enjoyed:
1. Mencheres--Believe it or not, I actually started to like the guy! I first met him in One Foot in the Grave (Night Huntress, Book 2) through Cat's eyes. Then seeing how he acted throughout the series, I liked him less and less. Mencheres doesn't apologize for his past behavior. In fact, he boldly tells Kira all his sins. But, do we REALLY know the reasons why he did such horrific things? He's no boy scout, but he has honor. Mencheres is logical, loyal, dependable, caring, and passionate.
2. Kira--She's not Cat and she's not Denise (thank you!) She had dreams of becoming a cop. She went to college and the Police Academy. Due to issues in her past, her dream never came true so she works as a Private Investigator trying to make a difference in somebody's life. She's honest, caring, loyal, and capable. Her sense of justice won't allow her to walk away from things. It also makes her not shut up when she should.
3. Natural flow to the romance--Mencheres and Kira are thrown together when she storms a warehouse with a gun when she hears sounds of someone being beaten and tortured. Nothing felt contrived or forced (*cough* Spade & Denise *cough*). After the initial shock of things, they both recognize the other is attractive but it's not this "lust at first sight" type thing. She doesn't suffer from or give into Stockholm syndrome. They aren't forced to pretend they are lovers. They meet, spend a week in the same house, go their separate ways, and both try to do things for the other or find the other, then come back together. And even then, they don't just jump in the sack together. They seem to understand the difference between lust and love and the difference that it could make in their developing relationship.
4. The Enemy--This isn't your run of the mill bad guy. This is the let-me-stop-at-your-house-for-tea-even-though-I-hate-you-and-want-to-destroy-you kinda bad guy. This guy has a very personal connection with Mencheres and is highly motivated. Instead of seeing him from afar, we get a nice up close and personal view. I loved it.
5. Mencheres' past--We know he is "older than dirt" but never knew much about him other than was pertained to Cat & Bones. He really does have a very interesting past. We learn how old he is, who created him and why, about his time with Patra, his relationship with Bones and Vlad, his powers, and more.
6. Emotions-- After the death of his horrible wife, Mencheres only sees darkness in his visions. He's tired of the fighting and the coldness in the world and wants it all to end. He's dealing with a lot of emotions. Not only that, but he also was locked into a doomed marriage and separated from his devious wife for over 900 years. He's got some pent-up feelings that finally get a release. Kira also goes through some life changing events and is dealing with it well. It was great to walk through those events with her and see first hand what it's like.
7. Cat & Bones--Oh yeah! they get some great page time with this installment. What's even better? They acted like themselves unlike in First Drop of Crimson. Some will criticize Cat for her initial treatment of Kira, but let's face it: Cat was almost killed by Mencheres' last lady. She has reason to wonder if his judgement is sound. Of course I wish they got more page time, but I completely understood the reasoning behind it. And I absolutely LOVED who came to work closely with Mencheres.....now THAT's a beloved character.
What I wish were different:
1. Beginning Pacing--The first few chapters were very slow for me. It wasn't anything major. It just took me a while to really feel the push forward. Others I've talked to have put the book down in the first 1/3 of the book. I say give it a chance. Push through because it's worth it.
2. Abrupt ending--The book just kinda came to a screeching halt. You kinda know what happens after, but a page or two of sappyness or round up would have been nice. Maybe the answers will be in the next book, but I like my endings all nice and tidy and wrapped with a bow. Again, very minor annoyance and easily imagined away.
All in all, I really enjoyed this installment in the Hight Huntress World and what it has done to forward the development of the characters and the series as a whole. If you have never read a Jeaniene Frost book, you could easily start here.

It doesn't surprise me that I would love this book. Afterall if you've read the night huntress series you're somewhat captivated by the well written characters that interact with each other. I'm glad that the author chose to write about Mencheres, he is one of the characters that most intrigued me. Now I want the next book to be about Vlad. Keep up the great work Ms. Frost. I am a forever fan.

I honestly was not sure if I would like this book because 1.) I love Bones and Cat and 2.) I did not particularly like Mencheres as he was presented in the Cat/Bones Night Huntress series; cold, calculating, manipulative, morally weak, dishonest . . .But this book shows Mencheres in a completely different light and it ended up being a really enjoyable read. (3 1/2 stars)

The installment in this book is not the "watery soup" presented in the previous installment with Spade as protagonist. Mencheres and Kira are two charismatic characters and the plot is exciting. In Eternal Kiss of Darkness, Mencheres is redeemed, we learn the reason why he was such a lonely jerk and I devoured the details of his compelling story. Mencheres and Kira together just burned the pages and archived to convert even the briefly appearance of Bones and Cate in two second and shattered characters. Terrific story.

I am not a fan of the night huntress series,I could just never get into it. I do however like Cat and Bones as charachters and I was happy to see that Mencheres got his own book. I loved the relationship betweeen him and Kira and how their relationship develops. I love how strong she was and how she always kept him off guard and for a very jaded Mencheres who did'nt feel like living anymore she was good for him.

This is a wonderful addition to the Night Huntress World series and a great way to pass the time waiting for the next Cat and Bones book. I will not bother with a plot review, as that has been done. Ms. Frost has created the perfect mate for Mencheres. She is a strong, independent, loyal and loving woman. She shows Mencheres kindness, gentleness and love that he has never experienced in his "older than dirt" lifetime. I was worried about how Ms. Frost would endear Mencheres to her readers. Well...that worry was a waste of time. This book gives me new respect for Mencheres and also a big fat crush. Bones is still my favorite but Mencheres has now moved up the ranks. I seriously hope that Vlad gets his own book soon as well. I have always liked his character! This book is highly recommended!

That being said, this one was even better. I have been curious about Mencheres for a long time. The story of he and Kira was exceptional. My husband and I loved it.

In past books I have never been a fan of Mencheres- mostly because he seemed too formal and cold. I also pictured him old and with grey hair regardless of how he was described otherwise (probably because "grandshire" makes me think of "grandpa"). Well this book changed all that. Now I see him as a sexy and sensative man. I also liked Kira for her compassion and bravery. This book was better than First Drop of Crimson in my opinion and I definately recommend it to everyone.
Oh, and the teaser chapter for The next Cat & Bones book was awesome, can't wait for February now!

Jeanine Frost did it again! She wrote another great book that I could not put down. I must admit I did not like a 'Drop of Crimson' as much as the Cat and Bones books, mainly due to the unexpected ending. And since I am confessing, I bought 'Eternal Kiss of Darkness' the day it was released, but did not read it for a few days - I simply did not want to be disappointed. I assumed wrong - the book blew me away. It did start of slow (marking itself as a true love story) but once it got moving it moved really fast. After reading this book I don't know if I still want Bones or trade him in for Mencheres or anyone else from that line. Do those men know how to love and ravish their women ;-) - ABSOLUTELY YES. I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone that is into paranormal romance.

Kira tries to help Mencheres and she gets involved in the middle of myth creatures and a dark world. Mencheres feels drown to her and do everything in his power to keep her safe despite his orders by a Law Guardian to kill her, and then with the help of his allies and her he overcomes his doubts about his powers and his fate.
After the fourth book in the Night huntress series I didn't like Mencheres very much and I didn't know anything about Kira so I didn't have great expectations for the second book in the Night huntress world with Mencheres as the lead but I was pleasantly surprised. I LOVE Mencheres he's so much than a cold rough master vampire and I like Kira very much. Mencheres has really compelling reasons for his actions about Cat and even about his ex-wife's lover and he's so sweet, caring, honest and selfless. Kira is nothing close to Denisse (poor Spade!) she's strong, brave, intelligent, compassionate, loving and ready to stand up for herself. The chemistry is really good although the love scenes weren't remotely close to Cat and Bone's. I love Menchere's ally but I was sad he wasn't Bones, I mean Bones was in the book but when he appeared with Cat, they disappointed me, I understand Mencheres' reasons for not wanting Bones involved, but I didn't understand Bones' for the way he acted and what he was asking of Mencheres when he wouldn't do something like that himself and that Cat treated somebody as a fool not my cup of tea, yes they redeemed themselves later but I was still heartbreak for that behavior in my favorite characters, I admit I was expecting blind loyalty regardless of Mencheres' past behavior after all that's how supposedly the world of masters, lines and sires are, meanwhile the ally was exactly that and I expect a book for him in this series and a worthy heroine for him, I can't tell you who he is because it's an important surprise in the book. And the book is a page turner.
Now my only complain and why I couldn't give the book the five stars completely was the déjà vu moment, I don't know about you but I'm tired of vampires who read people's mind but for some reason they can't read the lover's one, after three chapters I was wondering why (if you can smell attitudes and still know how a person feels) to use that.
If you like the Night huntress series you would love this book, and if you haven't read First Drop of Crimson you don't need to, you will still love it.

Oh my! This book was hot and sexy! I can never think of Disneyland again without blushing (read the book if you want to know what that means). I loved getting more in depth with Mencheres. The relationship that develops between him and Kira is sensational. My only disappointment was that it ended. I wanted to keep on reading. I hope we see more of them in future Cat and Bones books.

I'll keep this short and sweet. Eternal kiss of Darkness is so good that I wasn't finished with the book before I was desperately seeking the rest of the series. by all means Jeanine Frost is my new favorite author. What a delightful story!

A five star rating would have me gasping Wow! at the end. Nevertheless this was a very good read. I enjoy strong female heroines and Kira is exactly that. I appreciate that I didnt have to read the earlier series to understand Mencheres. Overall, great combination of romance and action!

Eternal Kiss of Darkness has a fast pace story with steamy love scenes. Looking foward to more of Jeaniene Frosts Night Huntress World series. First Drop of Crimson was very good. That being the 1st of the series.

This is a stand-alone book that goes with the Cat & Bone series. I really did like this story because it explains more about the background of Mencheres and he is quite interesting in his own right. I hope he is in future Cat & Bones books! I hate the cover art, but like they say, "Don't judge a book by its cover!"

Why I chose it: Not really sure at this point. I thought the title seemed promising, and the cover was somewhat interesting... until I looked at it closely. Seriously, look at it.
Taken a good look? Good. See those red-looking blood blobs on the girl's neck? On the real cover, they look like they've been added in MS Paint.
Not. Joking.
Also, the dude looks weird and the girl seems too coy and shy for the type of heroine in the book. The dude has some hair in his eye, which I'm wondering why he isn't brushing off instead of looking at me like he wants me to watch. Creepy.
This is, honest to God, a terrible, terrible book. The heroine, Kira, gets bitten at about 1/3 of the book and has awesome vampire sex with Mencheres (let's call him Menchy), our weird-looking dude from the cover who's supposed to be an ancient Egyptian with long, straight black hair.
"He wanted to show Kira things she hadn't even imagined, take her to places she'd only heard of, and lavish on her extravagances that would shame a queen. It made no sense; he barely knew Kira, yet something in her called to him in a way that almost overpowered him. The last time he'd felt this strongly about a woman, kingdoms had fallen in his wake.
But the darkness of the underworld loomed before him, mocking him that his time was almost over. Kira had a future. He didn't. He had to free her, both to let her life out her life and to let him finish what was left of his."
The storyline is basically that Menchy's uncle, another old Egyptian dude, wants to get all of Menchy's special vampire powers (like flying, reading minds, that kind of shit). When Menchy meets Kira, he's decided to commit suicide by ghoul. When Kira tries to save his life and he has to revive her with his blood, she has to live in semi-captivity in his ginormous mansion (and the size of the house is proportional to the size of Menchy's vampire genitals) in the suburbs of Chicago for about a week, during which he falls hopelessly in love with her (Menchy is 4500 years old, he can't seriously be falling in love with anyone at this point) and decides to live.
Random and meaningless shenanigans ensue, including a trip to Disneyland's underground tunnels, which cause Menchy to turn Kira into a vampire, and together they'll go live happily ever forever in the vampire sunset after they get rid of the big bad with a phone call.
Yay.
What I learned: an old, dark and moody vampire does not a good book make. Also, don't read anything by Jeaniene Frost ever again.

I am absolutely in love with Jeaniene Frost's writings!!! Eternal Kiss of Darkness has taken a character from the Night Huntress books, Mencheres. I love how she makes everyone so sexy in her books. She takes the reader away from their own life to the lives of her characters and sometimes we need that... especially us moms.

Love this series but could barely get thru the last two books where the peripheral characters got their own stories. For myself, the heroine needs to be someone out of the ordinary with some kind of talent --- preferably something that will even the playing field so they can give the vamps a run for their money. Instead, the human heroines just ended up being various shades of pathetic.

Never make one of your characters 4 thousand years old. The hero is some Egyptian Pharaoh turned vampire in this book. It's very far fetched, and you can never get the characterization of someone that old right. The whole story is far fetched and lacking. If I lived that long and couldn't even sleep, I think I'd be immune to love and everything else. I'd want to die because I'd be sick of the whole world.
These Night Huntress novels are nothing but romance wrapped up in the paranormal tag, which is something I hate. The books in this series are all designed to find all of Bones' buddies wives. The first novel was about Spade finding his love, and this one is about Mencheres. I'm guessing next one will be about Ian. Argh, so predictable and boring. Skip it!

I am halfway through this book and more aggravated than interested at this point. I've flipped through the rest of the book and every scene I land on only makes me more annoyed at how much this book is NOTHING like I was expecting it to be--which was *GOOD*. It just isn't. Arghhhh!
