I really enjoyed the characters, especially Roseline. Strong, resilient and self sacrificing... I also enjoyed the different genres throughout the book...I found myself laughing a few times and then cursing at others...

We get to know the main heroine, Roseline in 1600-something at a time when after the wedding ceremony, her husband Vladimir along with his homies / brother / whoever makes the carnage on the family of his newly wedded wife. Then he changes her into a vampire (although we're not quite sure whether a vampire or a different something. We know that from now on she is immortal). Place of the carnage - Romania.
Present Time - After years of unhappy marriage Roseline decides to escape from a cruel husband. Somehow she manages to run away from the castle where she lives, so she runs to the station and prays to Vlad and his friends did not catch up. Now mystery of the century - where, after her bold escape from goes Roseline?
Yeeaaah - to the U.S... exactly somewhere to the suburbs of Chicago. As the level of absurdity is still too low , Roseline rents a shack (called a house) with cockroaches running around and enrolls for high school to lead a normal life. In that high school she befriends Sadie and her brother William, she meets Gabriel (from the first second they share some strange mystical bond), she goes to football matches etc, etc.
Although Rose loves Gabriel, and he loves her, chick decides to escape from this love because she is afraid for the life of her beloved (she still has a paralyzing fear of Vlad finding and killing them - weel, I still have hope). In some dreadful motel Gab finds her (he was directed to her by some inexplicable feeling) and Rose decides to return home with him. She decides that she does not have the strength to run away from him anymore.
Then comes the dramatic scene of football match in which Gab wins countless points and is the school hero, Rose gets suspicious dizziness and faints (maybe with shock, though I suspect a supernatural pregnancy).
At this point I finished reading, because I could not take it anymore.
Oooh, in the meantime, with Sadie and her brother comes to live a mysterious guy (I don't remember his name), exchange student from Romania, who seems to know the secret of Rose and plans to kill her.
I read a little bit more that 45% and I couldn't take it anymore. The book is boring, too long, and has nothing to keep me interested whatsoever.

After hundreds of years, the bride of an evil vampire manages to escape to a normal life, and finds herself falling for a good-looking normal guy, who may not be so normal...
There are a lot of concepts in this book. Theres a thing about the main female lead being Dracula's bride. There's a thing about her being a teenager while at the same time being really old. There's a thing about the boyfriend lead character being something "else...". There's a supporting character who is an antagonistic force, kind of. There's a lot to take in.
The problem is that the stringing together of these concepts, doesn't quite work the way it's supposed to. I could never quite get into the story because the writing was all over the place. There was even a time, in the end of one chapter, when the main character was in one location and situation, then was suddenly in another location and situation by the beginning of the next chapter, with no transition in between. At first, I wasn't sure I was reading about the same character. When I realized that I was reading about her, I thought maybe I had missed a chapter, and quickly scrolled back to check. It took me completely out of the reading experience.
There were also times where plot holes/story problems were solved with minimal to no effort, and not in a good way. By the end of a paragraph the whole issue was tied off with a nice bow with the implied assurance that we would never need to deal with or think of this issue again. The main character is super strong but for this scene she needs to be weak... bam... [insert flimsy mental issue reason here]. Don't worry about it just enjoy the ride.
The fact is though, I had to put down the book a lot, because the "ride" was so bumpy, and I still had so many pages to go before it ended.
The sad part is: it does have interesting and admirable concepts. The writer made a great world here. There were lots of well thought out ideas, like how the Dracula myth came to be, or how the whole immortality thing actually works. You can even admire the fact that the author thoroughly thought about how a character, like the main, would actually live if she was on the run: her house, her lies, her everything.
Some ideas struck me as a bit off though, like how the main female lead was shoehorned into a high school setting. But, I was willing to let that go since it set up interesting scenes, like having a really old immortal deal with modern or normal concepts that she was sheltered from. More importantly having her deal with things that would only come up if she pretended to be a high school student, like parties, dances, and bullying.
Even though I want to recommend this book for those concepts and twists, because of the unevenness in the writing, I'm hesitant to do so. Maybe, if it's free right now, I would say get it and try it out. Then buy the continuation, if you think the hook at the end is worth exploring further.
2 stars... Buy it when it's free. If you like the taste, and don't mind the style of the writing, then decide if you want to get the next one at full price.

I have to say, this story is original and engaging. The first part was a bit slow- the relationship between the heroine and hero could have developed sooner, and in a more meaningful way. Additionally, we never learn the meaning of the tattoos the hero develops or their relevance to the story as a whole.
There were many grammatical and spelling errors that were a little annoying, but they did not take away from the excitement of the story, overall.

I purchased this book because the sample intrigued me; I wanted to find out what happened to a girl that had escaped such a harrowing life. The grammar and spelling errors made it difficult to enjoy the book. Had the book lacked the abundance of errors, it would have been much more pleasant. The most annoying thing of all is when a character's name is spelled wrong over and over again. Also, dragged is the past tense of drag. You cannot make a past tense of a past tense. The first book was created to capture your attention enough to purchase the second book because the ending is incomplete. Do not purchase this book if grammatical and spelling errors irk you because the errors in the second book exceed those found in the first.

The first book from the Arotas Trilogy kept me up late even though I knew I had to get up early for work. Hence the rating. I had to know what Roseline would do next. Just remembering the drama from when out five daughters were teens I feel Amy Miles nailed the teens in this book.

This book was written more of stream of consciousness than I was expecting and felt like I was constantly trying to figure out what was going on. While the theme is interesting I don't feel that the follow-through was adequate. Perhaps this could be rewritten with a little more time put toward coherence and consistency

Soooo buying this in paperback if available. It started a bit slow, then an excellent build up of the characters and an amazing lore storyline.I rarely write reviews but for this unique book I felt COMPELLED to do so. I will be rereading I assure you. Ms. Miles, if your other stores are as delicious as this, I dare say you have acquired a new fan.

I really enjoyed this book it kept me interested. I only hope that Vladimir gets what is coming to him in the end. I know Fame love's Roseline, but I want her to end up with Gabriel. That is if he is a good guy. I think that Nicolas and Sadie are going to end up being together also. Can't wait to read Book Two.

This book was exciting. First it seemed like a regular YA book about high school. Then the mystery began. The strange
visitors , the weird attraction then all the hidden secrets start unraveling. It also had a few fighting scenes. I like the action. I would recommend this book.

I enjoyed the story, but does anyone bother to edit their books anymore? If you can't get an editor then at least find a couple of friends who have full command of the English language to proof-read it for you. By the way, last time I checked, using spell-check was free.

I usually dont write reviews , even if i am completely in love with the story. But after reading this one and the sequel I felt i had to. The story was an easy read and kept me entertained all the way, i never felt like speed reading. As soon as i finished i wanted more. When i finished the second book i Needed more. So i log onto the store and look for the last book of the trilogy. When i couldnt find it , i googled the author Amy Miles and found her page and this is when i knew i had to write a review. The author is self published and needs as many reviews as possible and she really deserves it! She has great talent. I wont write any details on the story because i dont want to ruin it for other readers but i will tell you, theres love, action and suspense. Give it a chance at $0.99 its a great deal! you wont regret it!

While there may be a few too many handy coincidences, this is a refreshing, different take on vampires. It's a little gory in places, but not overwhelmingly so. Long enough to get five stars, short enough to still be an easy read.

I enjoyed this book, it is not really something new as it is about vampires but there is enough of a twist to the story to draw you in and make it truly entertaining
i would definitely recommend this book to all who like this genre, as it was well written and very enjoyable, now i just need the author to hurry up with the next installment

I purchased this book with the hope that it would keep up with my love of vampires and it did! Dracula in the forefront with his bride, the precious and formidable Roseline Dragomir! *sigh* Dracula is evil and that is shown to perfection. The relationships Roseline has with her teenage friends is so relatable. Then you meet her other worldly friends and foes that make you gasp, laugh, and scream with indignation! Wonderful work and totally enjoyable. I am hooked on the Arotas Trilogy!

Wonderful plot and story line, & it's own twist on the legend s of vampires . It really draws you in and I'm usually not a big reader but I feel that if I don't read the rest of the series my life will not be complete. overall an amazing book.

This book was very poorly written. I felt that there were way too many gaps in the story. The mood, tone and tense of the story would change from sentence to sentence. The book was littered with grammatical errors. How did this even get published? The author came up with a semi original storyline other than the obvious twilight similarities, but the errors made it hard to ever truly immerse myself in the book. One minute the character is happy and laughing and the next it is like she's having a nervous breakdown with no reasoning or explanation for the mood shift. I can typically read a book in a matter of hours and generally do, but this book took me four days to read and I had to force myself to finish it. I hope this author's style and execution improve. She has great ideas but it was like trying to read a novel written by an eight year old.

This story had a promising introduction; however, it quickly became a very messy and strained storyline. The story moves at a very fast pace, which is a good thing. If the book had been too much longer I would not have completed it. The main character, Roseline has moved to the midwest to hide from a past that is sure to catch up with her. She quickly makes friends and forms a connection with a high school boy, whom she can't seem to stay away from. The dialogue seemed a bit contrived and the plot seemed to bend toward any opportunity to show off how beautiful and amazing Roseline is. She is trying to hide and blend into her new surroundings, yet she does very little to diminish her impact on others. Above all the spelling and grammatical errors were too distracting. I feel that editing is a long and arduous process; however, this story felt too raw to have been edited more than once.

This was a very enjoyable read. I found myself sucked into the story and had several of those "just one more chapter" moments where your one chapter turned into five and it is actually three hours later. A well developed storyline, interesting characters and plenty of twists and turns has left me anxiously waiting for the next book in the trilogy. I will say - this book did not end as I anticipated, which only peaks my interest in the next edition. Hope I don't have to wait too long!

I highly recommend this book. It is not your normal vampire book, it is way better. It grabbed me from the start and before I knew it I had read the second one. I am on edge to get the next book to this trilogy to see what happens. There are a few typos but other that that it is a great read!
