The End aims to provide an overview of Biblical Prophecy and a vision of the Christian view of Eschatology. For anyone even the least bit familiar with views on eschatology, that is the end times, they are quite aware that there is a whole host of disagreement concerning any sort of particulars.

The Bible certainly has a lot to say concerning the last days. How exactly that information is to be understood is an oft-debated topic, however. Recognizing that this is the case Mark Hitchcock in the opening of his book acknowledges that their are differences and he touches upon some of them but also clarifies that he will articulate what he believes is the correct view and while interacting with the other views does not claim to fully articulate all of their teachings in detail. This was a helpful point to clarify up front.

Another point of clarification that Hitchcock makes early on is in acknowledging that there are vast areas of disagreement there are core fundamentals on which Christians do agree concerning the end times. He lists these as his non-negotiables. They are - the return of Jesus Christ to the earth, the bodily resurrection of the dead, and the final judgment of all people. Beyond these areas he recognizes there will be disagreement and acknowledges that may be acceptable.

Hitchcock presents a pre-tribulational, pre-millennial eschatology. The work is an impressive overview and interacts with nearly every major prophetic text, in both the old and new testament. It also provides a great reference work for dealing with particular topics. It is a quite lengthy text (500+ pages) but the chapters are short enough that it is not difficult reading.

The book is certainly well-researched and is not exactly "light-reading" but neither is it a dense academic tome. The book is written at more of a popular level that is accessible for most lay-people. It also serves as a great reference work and would be a very useful tool for preparing lessons and sermons. So it succeeds in this level but is not at the highest academic level.

The End is a very helpful reference work on the end times. It would be among the first books that I would reference for someone looking for an introduction to a pre-trib, pre-mil position on eschatology.

DISCLAIMER: I received a free evaluation copy of this book from Tyndale House Publishers. I did not receive any monetary payment nor was I required to write a positive review. I hope my comments about the book will help you evaluate whether or not the book is worth purchasing and reading.

The End - A Complete Overview of Bible Prophecy and the End of Days by Mark Hitchcock is the most well researched, well written book on Bible Prophecy I have ever seen. This massive 504 page volume, complete with multiple charts, lists, and clear discussion of the numerous interpretations of the end times in light of a thorough exposition of the scriptures, is simply amazing.

If you are looking for clear explanations, this reference volume provides a solid biblical foundation on complex (and often confusing) terms and timelines.

Why take the time to study prophesy? Because God promises a special blessing on those who study prophesy and pay attention to what it says. Revelation 1:3 explains, "God blesses the one who reads the words of the prophecy to the church, and he blesses all who listen to its message and obey what it says for the time is near."

More than straight prophesy, Mark Hitchcock urges readers to Get Ready for the Big Day, the Marriage Supper - one day God will say, "Go son and get your bride and bring her home." We need to be ready. Preparing for this ceremony is more than just saying a quick salvation prayer....Revelation 19:8 reminds us that every believer will be dressed in the finest white linens which represent the righteous deeds we have done. The good deeds are not your salvation - but like the book says on page 230, "Has it ever occurred to you that at the marriage of the bride to the Lamb each of us will be wearing the wedding garments of our own making?" How we are dressed depends upon the life we live for Christ now.

I received this book through Tyndale Blog Network in exchange for an honest review. I have to say I highly recommend this book. Purchase it as a reference, a companion to your bible studies, but at the same time enjoy the story. Greatest story ever told and we are a part of it.

As a lay person, I have been studying prophecy in the Bible, including that which concerns the Last Days. During this, I have had the blessing to read several books by some prominent scholars in this controversial area. At first, I feared that this book by Rev. Mark Hitchcock was just a re-hash of the topics covered in Things to Come by J. Dwight Pentecost. I was also concerned that it was just too breezy about such important topics. Then as I continued my study in it, I came to the conclusion that this book is a wonderful supplement to Things to Come and that Rev. Hitchcock humbly and with balance exhibited great scholarship in this wonderful book. Rev. Hitchcock admirably attempts to cover all the competing views on debated topics and tell why he supports an interpretation which favors a futuristic fulfillment of many prophecies, a pre-tribulation rapture of the faithful Church, and a pre-Millennium Second Coming of our Lord Jesus. I deeply thank you, Rev. Hitchcock, and may the Lord always bless you.

Magnificently formatted, Mark Hitchcock's The End is inundated with first-class eschatological insight. It is above and beyond the expectations of any end-time student and biblical scholar, and is a wonderful guidebook for any prophecy enthusiast. I have studied eschatology for years and more extensively, for the past seven. The End exceedingly assists in helping the mind organize chronology, geographic locations, characters, events and particular standpoints in prophetic beliefs.

Hitchcock lays out the foundations for each subject matter followed by repetition for clarification before proceeding to the next chapter. By its conclusion the audience has a splendid visual and understanding of end-time scenarios - so monumentally crucial in these latter days. The author creatively displays diagrams, charts, and outlines for the reader to enjoy, which is a bonus for those who may tend to get distracted and glazed over with a superfluous amount of academic terminology and research.

The reader is taken on an outstanding step-by-step journey through The End as Mark Hitchcock expounds on hermeneutics, The Law of Proportion, Daniel's Seventieth Week, the "gematria" - numerical indications of names - of key figures, the content and timeframe of the Seven Seals, Trumpets and Bowls, and so much more. Articulate details are vividly illustrated on the Rapture, the Second Coming, Armageddon, the Great White Throne Judgment, and the majestic Heaven and Eternity. There is also a reflective survey to prepare for the approaching judgment. It is very intriguing and equally gratifying to have such a coherent presentation on the Millennial Kingdom, a topic that is so often overlooked or conveyed in such a myriad of contradicting details that the remarkable event is lost in translation.

The End is obviously written and demonstrated by an experienced attorney, the former occupation of the author, hence the lucid comprehension and layout of the content. He not only authenticates his point of view (i.e., futurist, premillennial), but explains all possible avenues, then proceeds to defend his own. It will definitely take some time to read through if the audience wants to saturate the voluminous information. Twenty pages of notes were profusely taken by yours truly. And since I do hold to the same faith and perspective as Mark, this large hardback (504 pages) proved highly valuable for my spirit and in-depth studies.

Mark Hitchcock is a favorite biblical prophecy teacher of mine for many years, however this is the first work of his that I have had the opportunity to embrace. An opportunity that quickly became a privilege. It is strongly recommended that this book be given or passed along to other Christians and unbelievers alike, whether they are aware or not of the impending events just around the corner. The minutiae of eschatology can get tangled and either forgotten or misunderstood. Hitchcock's The End puts...well, an end to that.

As with a lot of books, the subtitle aptly describes the basic content of the book, which is, `A Complete Overview of Bible Prophecy and the End of Days'.

This is a big fat book of 504 pages including the index.

I found it a little boring at times but I think that is because the end times are not a current study topic or keen interest of mine at the moment. Otherwise I found it to be easy-to-read and extremely thorough in content.

The author was meticulous with his footnotes and the index included both words and verses which will make this book much easier to use for study, which is what I recommend you use it for. I doubt very many people will read it straight through like a story book. You could read it that way but it seems better suited for study.

To make it more interesting the author pulled in modern statistics and modern news tidbits and quotes to "spice" it up.

The author seemed liked he was trying his very best to be neutral in his presentation of the various views on this sometimes controversial subject. As far as is humanly possible I think he did a good job at that but readers need to keep in mind that the author does have a particular opinion, even if it is veiled in openness. How can anyone really unbiasedly represent a different viewpoint? Although it may appear to be that way here, how can it really be? So just keep that in mind as you read it.

This book is best suited to those who love theology in general or the topic of eschatology, either by natural interest or if you find yourself wanting in knowledge in that area and would like to remedy that situation. To that end, this book is excellent. I can't imagine any question or stone left unturned on that subject in this very long and thorough book.

The End: A Complete Overview of Bible Prophecy and the End of Days

Mark Hitchock is a husband, father, pastor, attorney, and graduate of Dallas Theological Seminary. In his recent work The End Mark examines almost every question about the end of times from a futurist premillennial perspective. This work is a comprehensive and essential tool for any student of Bible prophecy.

In over 500 pages, 39 chapters, an appendix section along with notes, index and Scripture index Hitchcock lays out his view along with interaction with other views. From my perspective as a historical premillennialist Hitchcock's work offers alternative views in many places with fairness and grace. The book is easy to navigate and contains illustrations and summaries adequately throughout the text. I also found his research on the topics of the binding of Satan, the Millennium and the New Heavens and Earth to be especially insightful and persuasive.

In chapter 34 while discussing the Millennium he suggests, "Jesus wins. All Christians can agree on a few things, and this is one of them. It's one of those nonnegotiables. In the end, Jesus will reign over the whole world as King." (Hitchock, pg. 399) The book also discusses the question, "Are We in the Millennium Now?" Hitchcock notes, "Many premillennialists agree with amillennialists and postmillenialits that Jesus is ruling over the church during this present age and that He reigns in the hearts of his people. He was, is, and always will be the Soverign of the Universe." (Hitchcock, pg. 404)

From a premillennial perspective the millennium involves a physical reign of Christ on the earth. During this time certain prophecies could be fulfilled. The Old Testament prophet Isaiah foretells of a removal of a curse on the earth. His prophecy includes an elimination of sickness neither of which has occurred historically (Isaiah 11:6-9; 33:24). He speaks of harmony in the animal kingdom which has apparently not occurred (Isaiah 11:6-9; 65:25).

In chapter 35 while discussing "Why The Millennium?" he notes "The Millennium will bring creation full circle as God brings to pass with the second Adam, Jesus Christ, what the first Adam failed to do (1 Corinthians 15:21-22." (Hitchcock, pg. 420) In the Millennium God will change or renew a New Heaven and New Earth (Isaiah 65:17; 2 Peter 3:13; Revelations 21:1-3). One that reverses the curse on creation (Genesis 3:14-19) and establishes the original purpose of God for the earth. Even the body of the resurrected believer is changed or renewed (1 Corinthians 15; Philippians 3:20; Romans 8:23).

The End by Mark Hitchcock

With his overview of the end times, Mark Hitchcock has taken a difficult, often confusing, and always controversial subject and written about it in a refreshingly simple way. That is not to say his book is simplistic, but that it takes complex prophecy and presents it in a way that is easier to understand than what most authors write.

The End is written to be understood not only by scholars and intellectuals but also by the layperson who does not have a seminary or university background. In a conversational way, with many scripture references and citing many scholars and experts of eschatology, past and present, Hitchcock brings light to prophecy that often seems unknowable. He gives the different views and chronology of the Rapture, the Millennium, and the Tribulation; what they are, what they mean, and how they will unfold. He gives the strength and weaknesses of all the views and tells the reader his thoughts and opinions and why he believes as he does.

Where many authors tend to sensationalize the prophecies of the end times Hitchcock writes thoughtfully and carefully about things found in scripture that are not easily understood. He takes what can be dark and frightening and brings it from a science-fiction-like genre to non-fiction reality.

This is a book for Christian believers and for those who are not Christian in their beliefs. For believers it is insightful and encouraging. For unbelievers, perhaps, it will help make the unbelievable believable. Anyone who reads The End will find it well written and thought-provoking.

At 518 pages, 'The End: A Complete Overview of Bible Prophecy and The End of Days' by Mark Hitchcock peaked my interest with a brilliant compilation of what the Old Testament Prophets referred to as the Second Coming of Christ.

We know Bible scholars and laymen have different views on the end times scenario albeit most agree Jesus will return to claim His bride (the Church) at some point.
And most of us are familiar with Revelation 21:1-8
'Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the old heaven and the old earth had disappeared. And the sea was also gone. And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven like a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.
I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying: "Look, God's home is now among his people!..."

Hitchcock presents us with an easily understood guide to this future event including lesser known biblical facts gleaned from Old Testaments Prophets as well as Scriptures from the New Testament which clearly indicates we are living in the end times: Christ will return!

Like other believers you probably have many questions about the Rapture or the Mark of the Beast, the 144,000 saved during Tribulation, when will it happen and what you can expect.

In this book, Mark Hitchcock excels as he carefully presents readers a clear, concise and easily understood look at Bible prophecies, ways to interpret and study the many predictions we have been given to prepare ourselves.
He does not obsess with the prophecies but expresses his interest in the end times sharing with readers what he learned during his research. His first appendix shows a proposed chronology of the end times. His second appendix includes recommended books to further study whilst his thorough index is one of the best I have ever seen!

This Bible prophecy expert is the author of more than twenty books on the subject of the end times alone and to help us to prepare ourselves, he addresses questions that often arise amongst students.
The Great White Throne Judgement or seat of Christ, the Seven trumpets or Seven bowls...Will there be truly a battle of Armageddon...to name some I was interested into myself including the meaning of the word, what it is and what it is not and the ten main passages which describes Armageddon. I must admit I did not know for i.e. that the word Armageddon was only mentioned once in the Bible (Revelation 16:16).
.
Describing strengths and weaknesses of the often confusing points of views we have been shown throughout the ages, Hitchcock provides biblical terms, timeline, charts and diagrams to identify each stressed point.

The over all feeling you receive in reading 'The End' is one of a fellow Christian who shares his views and findings whilst inviting us to join him in the same quest!

This is an excellent reference book each of us can utilize to prepare ourselves to be a citizen of the new heaven and new earth and new Jerusalem. Learning the true purpose of the reign of Christ on earth, trusting that on that day, He will bring a new beginning to secure a perfect ending for each of us.

This is a very comprehensive book on Bible Prophecy; it's filled with charts, graphs, and indexes. He backs his information with scripture. I feel this will make a great resource for Pastor's or anyone wanting to dig deeper into the end times. Absolutely no second guessing as to where his information can be found.
This is the best resource that I have found on the end times. I am pleased to give this book a five star rating.

The End is a complete Overview of Bible Prophecy and the End of Days. The author Mark Hitchcock takes an in-depth approach to explaining what to expect in these End days. The author is a lawyer turned pastor so you know that every aspect is covered fully in this book.
This book is over 500 pages it is not a summary book. This book is very thorough and every aspect of it is based on Biblical facts with over 39 chapters, an appendix section along with notes and Scripture index. This book is not for the faint of heart-it is heavy reading, but necessary.
I find the book of Revelations in the Bible difficult to read. The author Mark Hitchcock doesn't take the reader through Revelations verse by verse; instead he uses scriptures from the Old and New Testaments to fully explain the End times to the reader. The author explains in depth Bible Prophecies but in a simple format. The book is lengthy because he takes the time to include all of the information into one complete book.
I appreciated that the author expressed his views along with opposing views to give the reader a balanced opinion about the end times.

Lately I have been feeling more and more drawn into a study of the Bibilcal prophecies. Without a doubt Revelation is the greatest book, showing the true and ultimate power, of the Lord. I was quite excited too, to have the opportunity, at a time such as this, to review a book that fit right into my current studies.

I like that the author, Hitchcock, is very clear on his thoughts in the beginning. There is no question as to what he believes; he is very clear and as a leader on these studies, we are reminded still that we are to test all things with the Word of God. He shows all views, all possibilities and he uses scripture, nothing more and nothing less, in all the cases which he presents.

I was very impressed with this book; this is definitely exactly as the title says, a complete overview of prophecy and the End of Days. I do recommend this to anyone who is studying and seeking out answers. I do wish he would have used the KJV version for scriptures as he presented them but aside from that, I cannot complain of anything more. This is a book that makes those deep, mysteries within His word a little bit easier to wrap your mind around.

This book is clear and concise and most importantly reminds us to "test all things". An excellent addition to my Biblical library! I received this book free from Tyndale Publishing in return for an honest review :-)

I was somewhat excited when reading Hitchcock's introduction to his book in which he admits he would like this book to become the successor to J. Dwight Pentecost's classic Things to Come. So, I was hoping Hitchcock's would be a worthy replacement. Of course, I was expecting scholarly treatment of most eschatological issues. I was dissapointed because The End is really not a the level of Pentecost's treatment of pro and con views on various prophetic positions. Do not get me wrong, however. I read almost everything Hitchcock writes on the subject and he is a good author on eschatology. The End is written at the popular level and most Christians would benefit from reading it. For those that know about Bible prophecy this book will not cut it. This one is not Hitchcock's magnum opus, yet. An overview, it is. Complete, it is not. In no way could a prophecy student do without getting the older classic by Pentecost or even Walvoord's Every Prophecy of the Bible.

Hitchcock would do well to update Pentecost's Things to Come for a new generation as he has done with some of Walvoord's classics.

Disclosure: The book was received for free from Tyndale House Publishers. The program does not require a positive review, only an honest one.

I recently received a complimentary copy of "The End" by Mark Hitchcock from Tyndale House publishers. Mark Hitchcock has compiled a detailed list of Biblical prophecies regarding the end times hence the title "The End". Mark spells out what his point of view is in the very beginning of the book. I would recommend this book for anyone looking into end times theology. Mark tells the reader that other points of view on this subject exist, however, he does not delve too deep into the other "isms" held in Christian circles. For this reason I didn't give the book five stars. For the student of end times theology "The End" falls into the Tim Lahaye, Left Behind pre trib doctrine. (This is why I chose the book, too learn more of this "ism".) Summary: as a book showing all sides, "The End" fails, however, as a study of the pre-tribulation doctrines The End is very well written and laid out in a orderly manner.

This book covers the end times, while the author tells you his beliefs, he still approaches this book objectively. From the 7 thoughts on the rapture to all we can expect in the tribulation, this book is written for the common man, using simple, easy to understand language. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to know how it all ends. Only 9.99 on kindle, best purchase in a long time

I realize this will probably not score well with the literal interpreters because I didn't give it 5 stars but...

It's been a while since we've had some LaHaye biblical prophecy spin.

Enter Mark Hitchcock and his book, The End.

For anyone alive during the pinnacle of the Left Behind series this book will be nothing new. Hitchcock uses plenty of space (this is a large book) to explain the Left Behind theology. He uses fourteen parts to explain all the major points of interest when it comes to The Rapture, the Tribulation, Anti-Christ, the Wedding of the Lamb, The Millennium reign of Christ, the Mark of the Best and all the other "goodies" found inside the Prophecy Gurus.

Hitchcock does play out the other views of the end of the world but only on a surface level. He explains other views points using a sentence or two and then unleashes why they are incorrect and his view is the "God-breathed" interpretation.

There really isn't anything new to this theory so it's a wonder why Hitchcock decided to write this book. We have so many other books by LaHaye, Walvoord and Pentecost that all say the same thing. Why write another one?

I did read some interesting tidbits concerning the Anti-Christ in that Hitchcock believes the devil shapes a possible candidate to be the Anti-Christ for each generation because he doesn't know when God will set the End Times schedule in motion.

After reading that I thought it would make an interesting movie about a secret society of people who all believe they were destined to be Anti-Christ.

Fans of Left Behind and Tim LaHaye will gobble up this book as they do every other book on mapping out the book of Revelation, Ezekiel, Daniel and others they believe will show them when the world will end.

Otherwise, there's nothing new to read here.
