For anyone interested in the world of predictive analytics, this is a great and timely book to start with. It breaks down complicated concepts in a manner that 'dummies' can understand. The science of predictive analytics is never easy to explain to make it easily understandable and comprehensible, but the authors have done a thorough job. A must read for anyone beginning to delve into predictive analytics and computer science at large.

Predictive Analytics for Dummies is one of the remarkable books that I have recently read, and it requires investment of time and effort. Dr. Bari explains Data Predictions and avoiding analysis trap were in some senses amazing and helped me to take my learning to the new, further level. The material might be sufficiently technical to scare some readers away, but those who remain will definitely learn more about the craft. As a computer science major in college, I can say this book contains insanely detailed explanations about data analytics. If you are familiar with programming and data structure in various formats, I would want to say this book will definitely fill in the blanks with very fine tuned details about how data analytics is performed. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in data science.

Being someone who has never read any books based on Predictive Analysis and has very limited knowledge in the area of marketing and data mining, I found this book very informative. Most of the information was presented to me in very simple terms, although there were a few parts that felt a bit overwhelming when there were a lot of algorithms involved. I would recommends this book to someone who finds the idea of creating a program to predict something is possible as I found it very helpful in explaining how to predict trends based on data but I personally can not recommend this book to someone who considers themselves an expert in this area. The book uses very relatable and real life examples of data preparation, decision trees and "big data", which helped make the book much more interesting for me.

This is a very high level overview for people who may not understand statistical concepts of predictive analytics. The pros are that it contains decent, easy to understand descriptions, but the biggest con is that it glosses over some of the key caveats of the methods it is describing. This book is best for someone who has had little to no machine learning or exposure to data. It doesn't contain in-depth information. It's repetitive in places, but it's also targeting a demographic very unfamiliar with the topics, and who might choose to page to a specific topic rather than read in sequence.

As a student with almost no experience in predictive analysis, I found that this book is an excellent way to introduce me to the field. Dr. Bari presents the topic is a clear, logical, and easy to follow way, first teaching readers what Big Data is, what tools are used to extrapolate vital information from it, and how this information can be used. The book manages to be both informative and readable, and the examples and diagrams the authors provide add clarity at the most complex parts of the book. Although the book is very clear and would benefit someone with no experience in programming, having at least a limited a background in the field is definitely a plus, and the book uses examples of code and understanding programming language is definitely helpful.

This book will make you change your perspective on internet privacy. Bari's Predictive Analytics for Dummies has an entire section devoted to case study examples of how social and marketing analytics have changed the way businesses use big data. "Tweets as predictors for the stock market" and "Target store predicts pregnant women" were two topics I found extremely interesting, but also a bit terrifying. The more you read this book the more you question what information businesses have on you. Overall, this book serves as a good beginning tool for those interested in big data, using predictive models, or even wishing to get into the marketing business. I definitely would recommend this to a friend or family member!

As a computer science minor, I found Predictive Analytics for Dummies to be a great introductory text on applying algorithms and data structures and easily explains the roles of big data and predictive analytics in seen in marketing and data mining. It's a fast read, about 330 pages, but garners a lot of good information so as to keep for a while. It's a nice book for IT experts, businessmen, students, really anyone can take something from this book if you're at all interested in using big data, using predictive analytics into your business, or computer science applications. Overall, Predictive Analytics for Dummies is a fantastic read and a book I'll keep reading long after college.

Predictive Analytics for Dummies was a truly informative and eye-opening read. As a student double majoring in business and computer science, I felt like this book really catered to my inquiries on how to meld the two. The content on software installation and data structuring and modeling appealed to the computer scientist in me, whereas the idea that one can predict the future of a business venture appealed to the businesswoman in me. It seems to me that predictive analytics is the future and this book is the start of my understanding.

Fantastic book for learning the basics of predictive analytics. Every technique or method is backed up with a helpful example, or better yet, real world case. Code examples in Python and R are understandable to anyone who has even a basic knowledge of computers, and only an elementary knowledge of statistics is needed throughout the book. Well written, easy to read and follow, and very helpful in introducing the field.

This book overall is very helpful, from the wording, to the diagrams, and to the many comparisons made to help the reader understand what is going on. For example, Chapter 4: complexities of data there is a diagram comparing the high volume of data to a vortex or tsunami. It goes into explaining how programmers filter out the “big data” so that they can get to the “smart data”. The smart data gives useful information so that programmers can make changes as needed. The smart data and big data are compared to fruit; always a comparison.
Overall highly recommend this book.

Reading this book was a real pleasure! As a Computer Science enthusiast I learned a lot of things about programs and Analytics that I know I will be able to use in my future work. I also liked how the book related computer programs to every day life. There are multiple examples of how a company, of any kind, uses Predictive Analytics in order to serve their customers more efficiently. Even companies that I use such as ITunes and the store, use programs mentioned in the book. In all a relatable and enjoyable read, I would definitely recommend the book to friends!

As a (relative) beginner at computer science, Predictive Analytics for Dummies does just what the title says - explaining fairly understandably the applications and importance of data, data mining, prediction, and probability in computer science and the real world. I enjoyed the illustrative examples which were good supplements to learning the basics of modeling data to suit your needs.

Wow! I have always wondered why advertisements on my Facebook feed were different than the one's on my friends. Before reading this book I had no idea how businesses knew what advertisements to send my way. It's crazy to think that businesses follow the model outlined in the book to gear these ads towards me. This book does a great job in explaining the convoluted process businesses undergo to write algorithms that anticipate what consumers' next purchases would be.

It is a great starting place. I think it provides the elementary concepts necessary for those who are interested in Computer Science and particularly predictive analytics but don't know where to start. I also enjoy the layout and progression that the book provides. I am not all the way through yet but what I have read so far looks good. I have to reread a few things sometimes to get them, given the way they are presented, but overall helpful in gaining necessary information.

As a data scientist in the finance field, this book provides a solid foundation for a lot of the concepts necessary in dealing with financial data. The examples are good and there are lots of great tips. Good for beginners as well. Only issue with the book is that it hasn't always been perfectly edited. I found a few typos and grammatical errors.

I have to say I really enjoyed reading this book. This book is written by my professor for C-language and he is a very nice guy in classroom. After reading this book I understand predictive analytics generates scores for possible future outcomes based on statistical modeling of past data, enabling data-driven decision making in the face of uncertainty. And also an challenge in predictive analytics that is often overlooked is the issue of deployment. The analysts who develop the predictive models must work with different technical teams to implement their models into production applications across organizational boundaries. The programs are also usually rewritten for the target platforms, and they need to be tested for functional equivalency. I thought I could use those information on the future study very well.
