I love Josh Gates' quirky commentaries on the show and he does definitely deliver that in this book. I particularly liked the chapter about his worst vacation ever. I bookmarked that on my Kindle and have read that out loud to many people, with laughter while yet cringing for him and his traveling companion. However, I had hoped for more of his take on some of the paranormal things that have happened on the show. I was anticipating his firsthand account of what happened in the haunted forest, the island of the dolls, and the like. Basically, this is a book about his travels and the "monsters" the show has investigated. I am really hoping he follows this book up with another detailing the paranormal things he has witnessed. So, I gave it 4 stars instead of five. Overall, I did enjoy the book and do recommend it.

More than just a travelogue or a collection of snippets from the show, this book is a fun read with some very thoughtful and insightful, and even inspirational, commentary from Josh Gates about the wonders and benefits of travel. After reading it myself, I gave it to my roommate who'd never seen the show -- she loved it as much as I did. If you enjoy Destination Truth, you'll enjoy this, but even if you've never seen the show, and just have a bit of a travel bug, I think you'll find Gates' thoughts and experiences entertaining.

Josh Gates' writing is just like his narrating - witty and sarcastic. Every time I read something from him I can't help but hear his voice echoing the words in my head. This book made me laugh and cry (which came from the abundance of laughter). Josh is someone that I have always wanted to meet in person (just because I find his personality and sense of humor a rare trait among people these days) and this book really captivates all of Josh's narrative and skills and personality in printed word.

Josh Gates possesses a wicked sense of humor which is evident if you're a fan of Destination Truth. If it weren't for Josh I don't think it would have been half as entertaining a show as it is. His comedic sense and eye for adventure are well represented by this book, the whole time I was reading it I could hear his voice in my head telling it. A fantastic read and highly recommended!

Outstanding behind the scenes account of Josh Gates, host and leader of the Destination Truth expeditions. Josh provides a excellent account of some his travels and expeditions looking for monsters. What struck me the most is that the shows appear to be light-hearted investigations into legends and monsters; in facf are truly dangerous and unpredictable. The book provides the reality of the danger and physical stamina required to hunt monsters. Josh's narratives on screen provide a light-hearted description of their explogoes into makingthe the show.ts, but the nook provides a more realistic view of what it takes Romanesque the show.

Ex ellently written and hard to put down once you start reading.

I really loved reading this book. I really miss the show Destination Truth and reading the "extended" stories and things we didn't see were interesting. I also liked to learn how Josh got into traveling and to get Josh's thoughts on travel and how to get the most out of traveling abroad. While reading the book I couldn't help hearing every word spoken in Josh's voice just like he narrates the show... made it even more fun!

Josh Gates paints a verbal picture of the world he has seen through travel for the SyFy show Destination Truth. His memoir takes you along on the adventure providing a behind the scenes peek at what it takes to travel and film a reality show. But most of all you will find yourself, much as I did, wanting to travel along side Mr. Gates on his next adventure. His charm and enthusiasim are hard not to be taken in by. Josh Gates is the kind of person you want as a best friend and travel buddy. If you are a travel nut or just a dreamer of travel this book will set your wonderlust afire.

I really enjoyed this book. Josh Gates is just as witty and funny in his book as he is on his show Destination Truth. I lost count of how many times I laughed out loud. I've always wondered how he got started on his show and now I know and I very much enjoyed the look at his behind the scene travels. One thing is for sure. He has a very busy guardian angel.

Josh writes exactly like he speaks. Very entertaining and gives some behind the scene glimpses and personal travel stories. I know a lot of people were looking for more answers to episode questions, but I just find him to be a great storyteller and I really enjoyed the book. Not a dull chapter and a lot of laughs.

Love the shows and was more than pleased with the book, written with Josh Gates usual funny and interesting style. I'd recommend it not just to fans, but to anybody who enjoys a good read about this world (and others) and what might exist in the hidden regions.

There was very little doubt in mind that Josh Gates would be able to transcend his on television entertainment ability to the literary medium when we bought the book. I am happy with this purchase and those who enjoy the off the beaten path vocabulary but entertaining style of Mr. gates should find the book to their satisfaction as well.

This book isn't exactly what you would expect. Part memoir, part travelogue, part behind-the-scenes, I read the first chapter and immediately got sucked in.

This book is your reason to get out there and see the world.

I love watching this show and listening to Josh's narration. I only needed to read 2 sample pages to know I needed to buy this book! It is like Josh is right next to you recounting his adventures. It is very interesting as a viewer of the show, to read the behind the scenes stories. The unexpected difficulties that go on that don't make it into the show. It's very hard to put this book down once you start reading it. If you like the show, you should check out this book. Josh is a great writer! I hope he is planning a follow-up book!

This is a well written book, full of adventure and laughter and a must read for fans of Destination Truth, travel enthusiasts and armchair adventurers. I was torn between devouring the whole book in one sitting and rationing each chapter, trying to make the adventure last as long as possible. Josh Gates has a highly entertaining sense of humor that shines in his writing just as brightly as it does on TV.

I highly recommend this book - ideal for reading on the plane, train, bus, boat or the armchair express.

After reading the Kindle sample, I bought this book to have something to read on a recent trip to Boston. Although I've only just started, I've found this book to be both interesting and quite humorous. Josh Gates writes just as he narrates the show, Destination Truth. His quick wit and sense of humor could make a physics book a good read. :) I've given it 4 stars simply because I have a lot of pages left to read, but if the first few chapters are a good sampling of what is to come, I'm sure that score will be 5 stars by the time I'm through. Definitely recommended.
