While not Mosley's best Easy Rawlins novel, the characters are addictive and the dialog is snappy. A middling Mosley book is so much better than other middling books because his best ones set such a mark. Read this book and any other Mosley book you have not yet read.

When it comes to Walter Mosley, you know you’re going to enjoy reading his Easy Rawlins anthologies, and Rose Gold is no different. Protagonist Easy Rawlins is asked by the police to find a missing college student, who may have been kidnapped by a revolutionary faction. Set in the Patty Hearst era of the Black power movement, social unrests, and anti-war rallies, the story makes for a versatile group of characters such as shady cops, criminals, and assassins. What makes the story so riveting is that the author weaves into the plot racism, hate, police brutality, abuse of power, social status, wealth, power and influence, the inequities in the criminal justice system, and how these actions impact society. It is a great page-turning piece with a twist and turn ending.

Walter Mosely never disappoints. His historical contest has moved on to another LA since his first Rawlings book but, the older Rawlings is still top of his game. The plot is solid, the characters are well drawn. A one good sitting read - or two if you have an early morning appointment!

In love with Easy the devoted family man living on the edge. I long for the LA sights, sounds, smells and down home folk migrated from horror to hapless dreams of those decades. Was it better for blacks to know our station and insulate in community back in the day?

Another excellent Easy Rawlins Mystery. I was disappointed when there were rumors that Walter Mosley would not be continuing this series. Don't get me wrong I have enjoyed other works of Mr. Mosley, but I love Easy Rawlins. Can't wait for the next addition to the series.

Walter Mosley writes like Raymond Chandler, but from a completely different perspective - that of a black man in white-dominated 20th century America. I find myself frequently startled by a beautiful turn of phrase, so much so that I have to go back and re-read it again. Yet, the casual violence and racism are ugly and difficult to ponder, especially as a white man who grew up in that America. Anything Mosley writes is transcendent and powerful, without being preachy or pushy. He's right up there with James Ellroy and Elmore Leonard when it comes to my favorite crime fiction authors.

Mr. Mosley has done a superb job of capturing the flavor, mood and times of Los Angeles in the sixties while weaving several plot lines together. The teaser at the end was masterful and left me in anticipation for the next novel!
