Dana is a teenager wrestling with her trouble as being the "adult" in her family, while taking care of her mother who is never sober and take care of herself long enough to be sane. She thought coming to her father would be better for her but it took on a whole new meaning of making a wrong turn.

Jenna Black had crafted a magical story of teens who find themselves caught between their own need to be in control and the manipulativeness of adults. Set in the world of Avalon, where faeries and humans coexist, as well as magic and technology. If you think politics is dirty, then throw in some fae magic and you've got yourselves an interesting concoction. Not to mention that most of the faeries are definitely hot and irresistible not to be tangled-up with.

After reading the haunting, Mockingjay and jumping on to the equally mind-altering, Clockwork Angel, Glimmerglass was a feel-good read that is a definitely got me all fired-up for faeries again! You better read it up as its sequel, Shadowspell is already in the works.

Like many of the current teen sensations, Glimmerglass has a beautiful cover, which drew me to it. Honestly, when I checked the book out from my local library, I had no idea it was about the fae. The book is better written than many teen novels; Black is quite capable of constructing complex sentences. In fact, her writing style seems very similar to what I imagine mine to be like.

I enjoyed the book, but I did not love it. The characters lacked depth (yes, I know I'm complaining about this all the time). Dana, unlike most teen main characters, acts young for her age and I kept finding myself thinking she was 14. Despite her early independence because her mom was debilitated by alcohol, Dana seemed completely unable to take care of herself. Hopefully, the second book will be a coming of age story for her, where she will mature and learn to take advantage of her powers and stop being a pawn.

Ethan, the main love interest so far, does not appeal to me too much. If Black wants him to be the guy of the series, then she needs to do some convincing. I recommend this to fans of Kelley Armstrong's series that begins with The Summoning.

Avalon is a place where the modern world mingle and coexist with Fae. Dana is through with being the parent to her mother. So she runs away to Avalon to visit her fae father who she has never met. She strongly feels it's gotta be better than the way she's living now, but sadly she has no clue what she's walking into.

I thought this was a fantastic story. I really enjoy fae stories- always unique and a departure from vampire novels. Now I haven't liked every fae story I've read ... but this one really worked for me. Dana is an exciting character. From the moment she steps into Avalon she's tossed into a messed up situation. She feels lost, and not sure what she is being is told the truth or who she can trust. But by the end of her adventure she comes out a stronger person.

Glimmerglass is a spellbinding ride to the very end. The author has created a faerie world shrouded in danger and intrigue. Avalon is home to both humans and fae. A very tempting place, readers will want to keep coming back. I'm eager to see what is next for Dana. This is Jenna Black's first YA novel, I believe she will be welcomed with open arms.

The cover is what initially drew me to this book. When I read the description, I thought that this could be interesting. So it sat on my plan to read virtual shelf for a while, until I went to the bookstore looking for something they ended up not having at the time, and came home with this instead.

Glimmerglass gets right into it with the first few pages. No slow start for this book, which was nice. I was actually disappointed that I started it on a day I worked, since I was only able to read it during breaks that first day. Overall I enjoyed it very much, and only had two slight problems with the book. How the prospective love interests work, and what was happening with her singing in the beginning. I'm assuming however that those issues, or at least the latter one, will be resolved in the sequel Shadowspell, coming out next month!

A good beginning to a promising series. It had issues, like I wish the author had set up the heroine's difficult life with her alcoholic mother a little more, but I still found it believable that someone frustrated with their life would jump into the unknown, just to get away from it. Though I don't think the heroine is super captivating, I do like her and the world she's in.

Glimmerglass is the first book in a new series about faeriewalkers. Faeriewalkers have the special ability to move between human lands and faerie worlds. Dana is a teen who is fed up living with her alcoholic mom in the U.S. and decides to find her dad, missing her entire life. Dana finds her dad living in Avalon--a neutral faerie/human city. She goes to find her dad and once she arrives she learns that she is the only faeriewalker alive so her life is in jeopardy. Some want to capture her for her special powers, others want her dead. She doesn't know who she can trust.
The action is a little slow in this book since it is the first in the series and is establishing the characters and setting. Like many series, the first book leaves the reader hanging right as the book gets interesting. Some of the action seems drawn out for no particular reason. Hard to get into the story because the book ends just as it is getting interesting. The book could be half as long and be much more interesting.

This was a lot better than I was really expecting. Dana wasn't as childish as I expected her to be (after having the mother she has, it would be expected) and she also wasn't too grown up. The story was an interesting one. Things aren't what they seem and it had me guessing all the way through.

I'm not sure what to make of Ethan. I really like Kimber for Dana's friend, but I am interested to see what happens with Ethan and Dana in the next novel. This is a promising start to the series and I look forward to continuing it.

I appreciated the premise and new perspective on the Fey. The first half of the book was enthralling, the latter left something to be desired, though. I got tired of the political wars, and Katsa's constant self-defeat, paranoia, and blame on her mother's alcoholism was exhausting. I found myself struggling through the last few chapters and flipping back to the more exciting interactions between Katsa and Ethan. I will read Shadowspell, but won't buy it unless it proves worthy. Over all, not a bad book. Lacking in the romance and fantasy department, but interesting and uniquely woven premise.

I thought Glimmerglass was awesome. I am awe struck by the creativity of the author. I really enjoyed that Avalon was a blend of the world of the Fae and the world of the humans. The descriptions put me right into the story. The book was full of just the right amount action, romance and suspense. It kept me with my nose buried in my Nook and I couldn't wait to start reading Shadowspell.

I love this reinvention of fairies. It was a delightful read front to back. Really felt like I was right there with Dana as she discovered the truth about her heritage and started navigating the intrigues of the new world she ran away to. 2 thumbs up!

I loved Glimmerglass. I listened to it as an audio book and I loved the story. I can't wait to read the sequel! I did find the romance side of things overly done but otherwise loved following Dana through all the ins and outs of living in Avalon. A fabulous story and would really recommend it.
