Felix Dennis gives a raw account of what it takes to achieve wealth through sharing his personal experiences and top advice. There are a lot of golden nuggets in this book if you really act like a gold miner.

If the first chapter doesn't hook you, then probably not much else in the book will. The first chapter was the reason I read the book, and I'm glad I did.

Now - off to go do what it says to do.

I am a college student that recently started pursuing my own business gigs. I read rich dad poor dad which although "very basic" gave me a foundation for developing the business mindset and knocked me out of the liberal spin which had been ingrained in me by my parents and college professors. After that I started to take more personal responsibility for my life and the discontentment of the situation I was in. I began working harder and eventually decided to quite 3 jobs (internships) and drop my college classes for the semester to pursue my own business. This was the first book I read at that time and boy was it one of the best decisions of my life. Felix Dennis gives a good account of the trials and tribulations of becoming rich and the sacrifices involved. One must truly know themselves before they can embark on this journey. Its rough, lonely, and takes dedication but if your up for it you'll know by the end of this book.

THE EIGHT SECRETS TO GETTING RICH

Analyse your need. Desire is insufficient. Compulsion is mandatory.

Cut loose from negative influences. Never give in. Stay the course.

Ignore ‘great ideas’. Concentrate on great execution.

Focus. Keep your eye on the ball marked ‘The Money Is Here’.

Hire talent smarter than you. Delegate. Share the annual pie.

Ownership is the real ‘secret’. Hold on to every percentage point you can.

Sell before you need to, or when bored. Empty your mind when negotiating.

Fear nothing and no one. Get rich. Remember to give it all away.

This book has been a phenomenal inspiration. I have learnt so much about myself as well as others. This books breaks down the different type of people you can be and once you learn yourself, it teaches YOU what YOU have to do to be bigger and better.

Just an old guy giving soundbites of wisdom and relating some practical advice for younger people. He doesn't give you a step 1, step 2, ... system for getting rich, but instead relates the attitudes and thought processes of those who are. Probably one of the better books I've read in a long time, I feel like it would be valuable at 10x the price.

6 months after reading the book I've quite my job and started my own company. Had been on the edge for a long time -- this was just the kick in the pants I needed to pull the trigger.

PS the bit near end is the best. No spoilers, but everyone procrastinates, even those who are famous for getting stuff done.

Was recommended this book from a reputable source but this is actually the only book I did not enjoy from their recommendations.
It is FAR too wordy, unfocused, and the writing is bad to be honest.
There really isn't too much valuable information in this book.
Like my review title says this could be summarized into a few pages.

Felix Dennis has compiled a series of essays about a central theme that on the surface appears mundane. The book never fails to present a truly insightful quote or concept that makes you think. It's a shame he passed away, but this book serves as a capsule of what sitting down for a beer with Felix would have been like. It was also refreshing to read a book on success and wealth from someone who ACTUALLY became wealthy.

I was disappointed to reach the end, but suspect I will be referencing the book every now and again for a quote or general motivation.

Really enjoyed this book - he made me laugh alot as he's got a great sense of humor. I think it's one of the more realistic books on this topic of getting rich and I think it can help you to decide what's more important for you and how much you really want to earn. He points out that you will never get to a point in life where you don't have to think about money however much you have - if you have little you worry but if you have a lot you have a lot to lose and have different kinds of worries. I've read alot of books on the subject and this is a refreshing angle - I recommend it!

After suffering through a few books by Robert Kiyosaki and even reading the one that he co-authored with the Donald recently, this was entirely refreshing. Felix is an outstanding writer who, in addition to having gotten himself filthy rich, has clearly spent a lot of time with his reading. His review of the matters one must keep in mind while getting to the top, and his refreshing honesty about many of his personal situations, are just too good to pass up. If you read only one business book this year, make this one it.
