This is a good book for anyone thinking of working in jails or prisons. After reading the book, I have decided it takes a very special person to work in the Corrections Department and it is not me, especially after the first chapter, it is defiantly not me. This book is quite the eye opener, working with inmates isn't what I thought it would be. Book explains the games prisoners play, their mindsets, how the set people up, the manipulation and their enjoyment to do so. This is are really good book and worth the read.

GREAT READING MATERIAL FOR ANYONE WORKING IN THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM AND ALSO FOR THE AVERAGE JOE BECAUSE WE HAVE PEOPLE WALKING AROUND EVERYDAY AMONG US (in the world) WHO PLAY THE SAME TYPE OF GAMES AS INCARCERATED PERSONS PLAY. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

This is truly an interesting read even if you don't work in corrections. Its a unique view of prison life that doesn't revolve around gang violence and prison rape. There are number of blanket statements like "inmates respect guards who are fill-in-the-blank". Maybe they do. I'd prefer to see some research into the matter. The book was written in 1981 and there hasn't been an update nor is there a bibliography or footnotes. Lastly, the 'praise' on the back cover is from a Dentist who doesn't work in corrections. Great that lots of reviewers found it helpful, but I want to see a book with some serious research on the topic. I would hesitate to bet my life on this book which this book claims you are doing if you do not follow its advice. Of course its in its 31st printing so its got some part of it right.

As a criminal justice instructor and one who has worked years with correctional populations, I find this book invaluable. I am not aware of another book that covers the topic so thoroughly and accurately. I use it in my corrections classes and I frequently recommend it to those entering the field, especially if they come from a non-criminal justice discipline (such as medical, education, etc.) My only criticism, and the reason I rated it with only four stars, has to do with the book being somewhat dated and and a little weak in its organization. I would love to see it revised and expanded. Until that happens, however, I will continue to use and recommend it.

This book is critical for any person who is entering, or even already a member of the criminal justice community. I have made this required reading for students who enroll in my Introduction to Corrections course, and the comments from my students have been very positive as far as this being a required read for the course. This is a book which students and professionals already in the criminal justice community can refer to over and over again. Games Criminals Play is written in a manner which is easy to read and comprehend.

This is really a unique book. Long before psychologists started writing popular books about manipulation techniques, this book was written back in the day. It lays out for you how set-ups and prison escapes are done. It gives a good reality check to the gullible, whether involved in prison work or not.

I'm glad I purchased this book.

Although written with institutional employees in mind, this book gave great insight into the games and manipulative scams one can fall prey to. When I think about con-peoples, I think of those who have had repeated run-ins with the law, have been in prison, etc. But the reality is, prison is where these guys perfect their manipulative plots for their gain. Even though the examples referred to in this book were from incidents that took place from within prisons, these are the very folks that live, breath and walk among us, using the same tactics, they just haven't been caught, yet. This was an eye-opener for me and I learned a lot from it. I consider myself a good judge of character, having read this book, I believe I have an even better sense now.

The book arrived in better than advertised condition and quicker than stated as well. I've been looking for this book for quite some time as I plan on a career in the prison system and this is the 'go to' to learn about the ways inmates manipulate and play staff.
