The second book in the Evelyn Talbot chronicles. In this story she has finally moved to Alaska and Hanover House has been open for three months and she has been recovering slowly from Jasper's second kidnapping of her. She has stop seeing Officer Amorak and is back to focusing all her energy and free time on her psychopaths. Not long after she has a new psychopath transfer to Hanover House a woman she has become close to(Lorraine) who works in the kitchen at the facility shows up dead in a very brutal way and another worker is missing. I love suspense romance its like two books in one and this one had you at the edge of your seat. Soon she realizes she cannot stay away from Amorak though she has told him many times it is hard for her to have any normal relationship with a man. When you are thinking you know who the killer is and then only to find out not who you thought it will blow the mind. Looking forward to the other title in this series have to wait all the way in August 2017 :(

Her Darkest Nightmare by Brenda Novak
A thriller. A good thriller that kept me interested and anxious throughout.
Hanover House prison is filled with killers and psychopaths. Two women employees are missing and gruesome pieces have been discovered. There seems to be a serial killer on the loose in this small Alaska town.
Intense and gripping. With a premise of more books to come, this book is not a cliff hanger but there is definitely still evil out there in the wild.

First, you do NOT need to read the prequel, Hanover House, to understand this first full-length book in the series. Her Darkest Nightmare gives more than enough background to get you up to speed. Hanover House is a nice addition, but it's completely unnecessary to the story.
Next, this is a well-written novel. I found myself devouring pages, even though I knew very early on who our antagonist was. Despite the many red herrings, the villain wasn't a well-kept secret. That's always disappointing.
Unfortunately, it all ended up being so implausible, I found myself becoming frustrated. I mean, how can one woman inspire such hatred and loathing from so many? There was a never-ending line of lunatics throughout the course of one week. How unlucky is poor Evelyn? And another thing...are we really supposed to believe that when there are multiple murders in a one-cop town, no other towns send help? Not a chance. Amarok supposedly called the FBI for help, but they refused. Since when has the FBI EVER refused to participate in crimes getting national recognition? I call BS. Like I said, implausible.
Speaking of Evelyn, her constant insecurities and obsession about the age difference between she and Amarok became incredibly repetitive and tiring. We get it. You've had a rough life. But it's been 20 years. MOVE ON.
I will say I enjoyed the quotes, from well known serial killers, at the introduction of each chapter. That was highly effective in getting the reader inside the psychopathic mind. I found myself Googling each man and reading about their crimes. It was fascinating.
Overall, this was a pretty average suspense novel. There were some high points and some low, and at this point, I'm not certain whether or not I'll continue the series.
