The Rocks is a wonderful, well developed novel, with complex characters who leap off the page. The sense of place is so descriptive, I could feel the sun on my face and the gentle sea air. Peter Nichols is an amazing and thoughtful writer!

The author does a wonderful job of taking the reader to this island in Spain. You feel as though you are right in the mix. The two romances that make the heart of the story are intertwined expertly. Telling the tale from present day to past keeps the reader intrigued. Each chapter reveals a little more about relationships between the characters and you really can't guess at the ending (or maybe it's the beginning?). Well done. A worthwhile read with writing that is well above average.

The only good thing about this book was its publicist, as I have seen it recommended in several places. It is meandering tripe, filled with too many characters and not enough substance. I didn't finish it because I didn't care about any of the characters or storylines. I put it down at the elderly lady/teenager abuse scene. Vile.

author has clever idea tell the story backwards. gradually tell a story of why the animosity that was shown at the end of the story existed but outside of the clever plot it's a poor story People's motivations really don't make sense in many cases if you told it forward it would be a dull story.
