Fat Girl is about Claire Sterling, who admits she's a "fat girl", I personally really dislike that word, and any type of body shaming, but I went into this with an open mind and I'm so glad I did. K.L Montgomery did an amazing job writing this book! 5 stars!!

Claire Sterling is turning 40, and struggling with the aftermath of her divorce and she is back on the dating scene. The book follows her throughout the following year, as she decides to do a "reinvention" of herself. She decides she needs to make some changes with her life. We all know that the best laid plans can always take a different road, and in this story they definitely did. This isn't your typical love story, where the girl falls for the guy, this is a story about loving yourself, no matter what. And I think most times people forget to do just that.

This book has its moments, where I just wanted to grab Claire and tell her to stop being so hard on herself. And remind her that she doesn't have to care what other people think. She's bold and sometimes can be so cruel to herself. I think the way that K.L Montgomery wrote this story, it really allowed people to connect with Claire in many ways. Often times we're so critical about ourselves and the way the world sees us, and I think K.L Montgomery did a great job of showing that through Claire. I found myself laughing out loud with Claire, whether it was with her or at whatever was happening throughout the story.

Claire and Fat Girl are so in sync with what is happening out in society right now, there are so many parts throughout the story that anyone can relate too. Whether it be weight problems, dating problems, navigating the dating world or family problems. There is something relatable to every part of this book! I'd recommend this book to everyone!

To often it is the storyline which engages me rather than the authors skill. I have to say the opposite was true in Fat Girl. In another writer's hands this plot would have quickly dried up, but K.L. Montgomery has made it engaging, and funny. I lol'd heartily several times, between banging my head on the wall in frustration at the main character. But oooooh the satisfaction when we get to the end :)
On another note, the authenticity of this book is great. I would completely recommend Fat Girl to people who struggle with their weight, because though humorous, the underlying breakdown of the main character's mentality is really interesting. I feel a lot of people with these issues could relate to Claire's plight.

I would truly love to see what else Montgomery has to offer! Fat Girl is well-written story with very real issues for a lot of women.

*** WARNING SPOILERS *** Fat Girl by K L Montgomery gets 5 fat stars from me! Fat Girl features Claire Sterling who lives in Lewes, Delaware in her parents home with her teenage son Elliott. Claire is a writer and a soon to be divorcee, the reader gets to follow Claire through her Reinvention. Her Reinvention is a weekly column that she is writing for the New York Times (I know I had a fan girl moment too), her content is reinventing herself before her big fortieth birthday! Her column takes you through her divorce, weight loss journey, online dating fiascos, and reconnecting with her family. As someone who has struggled with body image this book really spoke to me. I was right there with Claire while she binge ate or worked out excessively. Claire is every girl/woman who has never felt like she was enough, that the extra pounds limited her in life, and wanted to change it but did not know how. Reading about Claire's journey seeing her struggle but get back up to fight even harder made me fall in love with this character from page one. The Author did an amazing job writing this book, I felt like I was Claire in some parts of the book due to it being relatable with what is going on right now in society as well as past experiences I have had. Another huge thing for me is that even though this highlighted many serious issues it was done in a way where I did not feel like I was reading a pamphlet. The humor was spot on and did not diminish the message being shared to the reader. Please bring Claire back, even if it is only for a novella story. I miss her already!

Fat Girl by K.L. Montgomery is about Claire Sterling as she goes on a year of reinvention of herself between her thirty-ninth birthday and her fortieth birthday for her series for the New York Times. The chapters of the book are grouped into the different seasons, from fall to fall. K.L Montgomery made Claire to be funny, loyal, and strict on her insistence on being grammatically correct. Claire goes through the few ups and the numerous downs of online dating. She takes everything in stride and with a bit of humor thrown in there. She also struggles with her weight and finding her way to be satisfied with herself. There are several other major life events that I believe that greatly affect Claire during her year of reinvention, but I don’t want to spoil the book so you’ll just have to read the book to figure those events out! ;)
I loved reading about Claire, because she was so hilarious and real. She was an easy character to relate to and to care about what happens to her. I loved how Claire evolved from the beginning to the end. I love how much she changed mentally and how strong she became. Claire grew and built relationships. The one relationship that I loved seeing change was with her mother. The scene in chapter twenty-seven involving her mother was one of my favorite parts of the book. I loved it, because it was one of the most honest, raw, and emotional scenes in the whole book. It was also a turning point for them in their relationship.
I liked this book, and I give it four stars!

Wanting something funny, real and of course like chick lit? Well look no further than KL Montgomery’s Fat Girl.

OK. When I seen the title. I kind of rolled my eyes. Sure how obvious does it have to be for a title but as I read it. It was so much more than about a girl in her forties who was going through weight issues.

If you are someone yourself who has ever had issues with your weight, male or female you will be able to relate to this story. The authors thought process on this would be amazing to see because the story was so real and actually the thoughts of the main character had been my own so many times before. Though I’m not forty years old which is the only difference.

Claire is forty years old now separated from her husband who seemed like a douche. Now she is living back at home with her old childhood home and getting back on the dating scene.

This is a harsh reality of going back into the dating scene and trying to make it in a cut through environment. I loved how funny and nerdy the main character was. Reminded me of me. And gave me hope that if there was a time where I would be in a similar situation that I to would be able to survive.

This is a book that I would highly suggest towards my friends who just want to sit down, have an easy, funny read. I cannot wait to read more from this amazing author in the future.

Claire is a self proclaimed Fat women trying to reinvent herself, while dealing with a divorce from her cheating husband Jeremy. “ Returning to your small, traditionally-valued hometown as a soon-to-be divorcée feels like coming home after a lost war.” She has a thirteen year old son and has had to move back home with mom and dad. It's a painful place to be at thirty-nine years old she has been a wife mother and homemaker for so long she has no skills to earn a living. She has to start from scratch. She has a very small blog and just a little way in she becomes syndicated in the New York Times. She discusses every thing from being fat to online dating, she shares her losses and her successes. And it grabs the attention of the audience.
She is a women about to come into her own. She confronts her health and fitness, her habits her personality and everything in between.
“Nevertheless, I would Love to believe it will be the last time I find myself in this position. It's just hard to have faith in myself with as many times as I've failed.”
I found that being a fat girl myself it was hard not to internalize everything in this book! It was well written and maintained the balance between funny, crying jag, heartbreak and new romance. This book was so funny and so truthful. Written in a way that didn't offend and with real care. I loved it. Fantastic! I absolutely recommend it.

The feelings I felt while reading this book were just insane! So much hit so close to home and it was definitely a revealing read. KL Montgomery did a great job drawing the reader in and keeping them. I am not a mom, 39 years old, or dating but there was something about Claire that hit every feeling I have ever had or doubts that have crossed my mind. I was engrossed in her story and the whole time rooting for a happy ending. If anyone deserved it Claire did. There were so many twists and turns that the character dealt with in a year. I could not have handled half of the issues that came up. I would have probably fallen apart under the pressure. I could not put the book down, it took a few times to pick up and get into but when I really started reading I could not stop. I would love to have a book for every year of Claire's life! I would read it even if nothing exciting happened because her dialogue is just so witty and engaging. I hope everyone who is even thinking of reading this book that they just pick it up and jump in, I doubt you will regret it at all!

absolutely amazing read. I could relate so much with Claire - I was immediate hooked when referencing the breakfast club... I mean that's one of my favorite movies! Plus the fact that she was going through a divorce with one son - was almost like I was reading about myself. I've never been as heavy as she had been, but I can definitely relate to the ups and downs with weight and the feelings of just being fat. Incredible to read of Claire's self discovery and growth. You feel her every day struggles and cheer when her friends are there to support her. If you've ever felt fat, read this book - it will give you a new perspective. Plus the writing style is amazing and she truly has some hilarious ways of putting things. Laugh, cry, reflect on yourself - this make you do all of these and more.

Meet Claire...a 39 year old, soon to be divorced mom whose blog has just given her the opportunity she has been waiting on...a syndicated column for The New York Times. The column is dubbed "The Reinvention" and its focus is based on Claire's newly single status as she is creeping up on the big 4-0. The column is the catalyst for a year of discovery; she has revelations, she finds love, but more importantly, she finds herself. While there is a romance factor, the main plot is dedicated to Claire herself. Her journey to realizing and understanding who she is and what place she holds in her new world. The writing style is such that lets the reader know " you will be smiling while you read this." And yet it is more. This novel is so more than its title. It is a quirky testimony teeming with sarcasm and wit that begins with a lost Claire and ends with an epiphany. She is more than just the "Fat Girl"...she is valuable and she loves herself for it.

Fat Girl

4 Stars

Claire Sterling is a newly single mom of one trying to land back on her feet. She is struggling through her divorce and trying to figure out “what now?” She, like many women out there, is also struggling with body image. Something so many women can relate to. However, she takes a unique, and very open path, to finding herself. Through a New York Times syndicated column where she writes about being newly single, fat, and nearly 40.
This self-professed fat girl feels the need to reinvent herself and even enters the online dating pool. She tells her tales of weight battles, losing loved ones, struggling with parenthood, dating, and seeing a therapist through her witty and sharp column. She is snarky, honestly, and cynical.
This book shows so much of the inner battle women face: yo-yo dieting, fear of judgement, the dreaded gym, the evil scale, and body issues as a whole. This book with strike a note for women, regardless of their size because no matter what, at some point, we have all struggled with self-image. Claire’s story is truly one about discovering oneself and finding the right path in life.
K.L. Montgomery touches on a real life issue and does so without hesitation. It is addressed right from the title without fear or indecision. She uses Claire as a relatable character who has no bounds in expressing her body images or addressing sensitive issues such as eating disorders and affairs. Montgomery’s writing is witty and strong and leaves the reader craving more.

Just finished Fat Girl... and by "just finished", I mean I read some in the car at stoplights on my way into work this morning and then spent the first hour AT work reading the last of it! While I am not usually a romance fan, I am a fan of any author who can tell a good story with a skill of language. I loved this book, the characters, the plot, and subplots. I loved the cover. I loved the parts that made me laugh (Claire is snarky!) and I loved the parts that made me cry. I'd gladly recommend this book!

Fat Girl is the first book in the Romance Rehoboth series. This is not my first book by K.L. Montgomery and it will not be my last. In her characters she builds them up so that you can relate with them. This story is one that will make you cry, laugh, mad, and excited all in one. You are on a special journey with Claire and you may have even gone through what is going on. Enjoy this story as you may even find solace in the characters and setting.

Fat Girl is a thought provoking, witty book which so many of us can relate to feeling. It's the story of Claire and her quest for the perfect body and realizing perfection is overrated and unrealistic. Claire is like so many of us who are unhappy with how we look. As she struggles to find the perfect diet, the perfect way to look, she realizes now matter how much or how little she weighs she is not what a number on a scale says. She is more than that. As she gets more fit and healthy she begins to appreciate herself. She has a lot to offer the world She is a wonderful just the way she is.

This book was phenomenal! Claire is easily one of us and there was an instant hook of being vested in the character and in her choices. She faced many issues that many women face with class, humor and bravery. Her tale is at once real and inspiring, a true motivation for us all.

As I divorced two years ago I related to her instantly, her story could have been my own. And I only wish I had found this sooner, from dealing with infidelity to being fat, she proved that we aren't alone in what we deal with and her transformation to a strong independent woman aware of her issues and the choices she needs to make to continue to deal with them is truly amazing.

This is a really good read about a newly divorced woman with real life issues, trying to navigate the dating waters at near 40, while raising a teenager and managing a career. I could relate to a lot of her issues myself, which made this a close-to-the-heart read for me. I'm voluntarily reviewing a free copy of this book.
