I bought this for my husband for a birthday gift, and we have already spent hours reading and looking through this amazing coffee table book. The pictures are incredible, the journeys look great, and it is fun to see where we've been and where we want to go.

The trips in here are outrageously good and you will find something for everyone. As other reviewers suggested you should research additional details online for outdated info or additional things to do. It's a huge book so more comfortable reading at home on the sofa than on the move.

This is a great "coffee table" style book, filled with interesting information and the sort of excellent photography one would expect from National Geographic. What's most remarkable, however, is simply the price. This is a big, heavy, tome of a book--hardcover--and I would have expected it to easily cost twice what it does. It's a real pleasure to browse through, and I learned of quite a few places I had not heard of or would not have thought about as options for travel destinations. It is not a resource per se. Think of it as a collection, a wide array, of mini-travelogues with good photography (even if on a fairly matte paper stock), and given the large size of the book, this allows for fairly large-format images. A good value.

This is an amazing book. It has everything you ever need to know about amazing vacation spots. It even tells you the best time of year and best travel route. I especially liked that each section also included the top 10s, like top ten boat rides, etc throughout the world. This is a must have for anyone who loves to travel and is also just a great coffee table book. Everyone who visits finds themselves lost in the pages of this amazing book!!!

I grew up with National Geographic and waited for it every month between travelling the world. Now, my son has picked up the globetrotting reins. For Christmas, rather than buying him a subscription between his trips, I bought him this. It sits on his coffee table with honor and has the same excitement I had once a month, everyday. Of course, NG does not disappoint in photography and writing. The hard cover is well worth the extra price.

This is a wonderful coffee table book. I will not go into detail about what the nine different chapters contain, as many reviewers have already listed this information for you. What I will say concerning this book is that it is not an in-dept travel book at all, but that it does give you just enough information to wet your appetite to do more research on your own to find more specific information about trips which you may be interested in taking. It does give the reader some information on when to go, how long to plan on staying, highlights that you should make sure to see, and some inside tips. It also includes websites which the reader can go to in order to find more complete information on specific locations.

Also, you will find that this book is organized differently than many travel books. The chapter, as many have already noted, are organized by means of travel, not by geographic location. This means that if you are looking for information on a specific location, you will need to go to the index to find what you are looking for, but this should not present a problem, as the index is very detailed and complete. This book has some amazing photographs in it, as you would expect from a National Geographic book. Journeys of a Lifetime serves as more of a checklist, or wishlist for most of us, for places that you would like to visit and explore. It is well worth your time. I am giving it 4 stars instead of 5 stars simply because I felt that it does not quite give the reader enough information on each location. Most locations is only accompanied by one large paragraph of text, along with the highlight information and a website. I would have liked to have seen just a little more information included for each journey. It is a very interesting and beautiful book and I highly recommend it if you enjoy traveling or learning about the world.
