A Delightfully Awkward Journey Across the Alaskan Tundra
A Delightfully Awkward Journey Across the Alaskan Tundra

Review:This is a witty, inspiring, awkward, smile forming, laugh out loud inducing book. I did not want to put the book down. I read before I go to sleep at night and I would tell myself "Just one more chapter and I'll stop reading." But I would fall asleep reading, wake up in the middle of the night curled up with my kindle, and start reading again! This is the best book I have read in a long time! Read more

A Thru-Hiking Adventure on the Appalachian Trail - Balancing on Blue
A Thru-Hiking Adventure on the Appalachian Trail - Balancing on Blue

Review:I downloaded this on Kindle Unlimited.

I loved reading this book, at the same time as it making me feel really fed up because I wasn't there, doing it, and now I (very probably) never will be. I was glad I've read Bill Bryson's A Walk In The Woods, because I recognised some landmarks, even the names of shelters, and was familiar with the basics of such an endeavour, not least of all the superiority of the 'thru-hiker' compared with the day hikers (I detected the hierarchy, even in such a... Lost and Found in the Mississippi Delta - Dispatches from Pluto
Lost and Found in the Mississippi Delta - Dispatches from Pluto

Review:Not for me. Creeps me out reading about all the guns, animal and bird killing and the plateau African Americans reach socially in the south. I did appreciate the author's humor and can see how many liked the book. Read more

A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again - Essays and Arguments
A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again - Essays and Arguments

Review:If you like bravura prose this is a must-read; if your taste runs to short, affect-less little sentences don't bother, this is not the book for you. How good is good? This good: the essay on the tennis pro is so moving, profound, and brilliantly crafted you'll want to read it twice in a row, even if you cultivate an active dislike for sports in general and athletes in particular, as I do. The essay on the Illinois state fair is so vivid, intense, funny, sad, and deep that you'll not only fee... Read more

Alaska State Map (Rand McNally Easy to Read!) - Easy To Read

The MILEPOST 2018: Alaska Travel Planner
The MILEPOST 2018: Alaska Travel Planner

Review:Lots of great information for our trip up the AlCan and move to Alaska. However, the pages are super thin. I was flipping through it before wrapping it up for my husband’s birthday and one of the pages ripped about 2 inches. It definitely needs very gentle handling, which is difficult for referencing in the car or letting my elementary aged kiddos read. Read more

A Moveable Feast: The Restored Edition
A Moveable Feast: The Restored Edition

Review:I am leading a discussion of The Paris Wife written from the point of view of Hadley, Hemingway's wife during the 20's so I thought reading A Movable Feast would make the period and story more interesting. Both books are really good but A Movable Feast brings Paris alive with the sights, sounds and relationships that Hemingway had with his friends. There is little of Hadley in the book but with a few words you know how Hemingway felt about his first wife. Read more

The Hemingway Library Edition - Green Hills of Africa
The Hemingway Library Edition - Green Hills of Africa

Review:In Hemingway's nonfiction recounting of his life in Kenya and of the many, many animals he shot while there, Green Hills is his quintessential nonfiction reportage mastered. While Wolfe would wear a white suit, Hemingway dresses as a hunter and became part of the land, even as he continually searches for the next great hunting plain.

Hemingway was no stranger to the Kenya in his fiction; fictional memoir True at First Light and numerous short stories were set there. But like Death in the ... Read more

and Living the Zero Hour Work Week - Moving to Costa Rica

Review:Just finished this book on my kindle. I laughed so hard when I read the part about obtaining her drivers license! My husband asked me if I was ok! It's an easy read, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. We are here in Costa Rica for 6 months and Nadine gave me some more ideas on places I would like to see. Will be watching for the sequel! Thank you :) Read more

Cross-Country Adventures on America's Two-Lane Highways
Cross-Country Adventures on America's Two-Lane Highways

Review:This book is very thorough not only in verbally mapping a road trip, but in describing what to see and why. I haven't taken any of the routes yet (I'm mainly an armchair traveler), but I have learned a great deal about some lesser known attractions to be found on two-lane highways. It reads like a travel diary, but is still instructive and informative.

"Road Trip USA" is organized by states and regions, so it is easy to read in sections for a virtual road trip or while actually travelling... Read more
