and yet again, another wonderful novel and it touches on people we all loved form other series, if you miss Dex and Perry you will catch a glimpse of them here and there. It was well worth it and it went by way too fast.

I love her writing and I missed her paranormal stories. I feel in love with Perry and Dex in Dark house. I never stopped loving them. With that said, I understand being done with a story.
Veiled allowed a peak back into a world I missed so much. It was quick and witty and light.
Veiled is not experiment in terror. It is different. Although you reconnect with old friends, some new ones come to light. I have enjoyed the story and hope there will be enough passion to continue with Ada's story.

I love Karina's paranormal books. They're so dark and haunting. But still has a bit of hotness in it. Her characters are wonderful and it sure was nice seeing some old friends again from her EIT series.

I know when purchasing anything written by Karina Halle that I will not be disappointed. Veiled, like all of her other offerings, is well written and keeps you turning pages. Written as a stand alone but with possibilities left for future installments. Personally, I hope for Ada's story to continue.

This book! Wow. This book had everything. Paranormal, suspense, angst, romance, laugh out loud moments and skin crawling scary moments. See? seriously everything!
Paranormal/urban fantasy type genre isn't my norm. I actually said that earlier this year with another author's book as well. But if you can write it and write it well, I will read it and hopefully others that haven't crept out of their norm will as well.
First, I adore Halle's books. She can seriously write anything and write it well. But I think PNR is her thing. She does scary well with romance and a hint of comedic timing all wrapped into this particular book. I'm sure I am one of the few initial reviewers that hasn't read her Experiment in Terror series, although I've started it, I haven't even begun to really relish in it all. BUT I don't think that hindered my experience in Veiled. Those characters were just background and this is all Ada's story. Ada and Jay, that is (or shall we call them Jayda?). And their story, Ada's story is one that obviously needed to be told.
"When you wake up from a nightmare, the reality comforts you. When you wake up from the best dream ever, reality is a burden, a slap-in-face reminder that you could feel this, you could have this, but you don't and you won't."
So, what is real? What is a dream? Is everything as it seems? Or is everything a lie and we all will wake up in a moment and realize none of this has happened? This is the journey of Ada and this is her reality. It isn't always pretty, but she makes it fun, sexy and scary all rolled into one. What do YOU believe and are you willing to go on Ada's journey? Her journey with the demons and the hell she finds herself in? It's another world that has been created that is dark, but one I think we can all enjoy and appreciate.
"I will not give up until there is no hope left.".......
"The only thing that they can't control or even begin to understand. Love and hope. Those are the bonds that will break them."
Read this! Read this now. Come on a journey that is something different and heroic and funny and sexy and full of surprises. Plus, if you are an EiT fan, you will get a taste of those characters and some other cross-over characters from Halle's books. How fun and exciting is that? It's like you get so meet up with people you said goodbye to before, but they are still around, still lingering in your thoughts. And what amusing entertainment they still are in Ada's world.
Jump in and see for yourself. I guarantee you won't be disappointed.

Karina, you did it again! You allowed me to escape my own personal world for a while to enjoy someone else's crazy and suspenseful life.

I am an EIT fan so I loved reading about Dex and Perry again (specifically Dex), but thoroughly enjoyed the connection between Ada and Jay.

This book is for anyone that wants to jump into a paranormal world of suspense and romance. Highly recommended!

Loved this. My first of this kind. Loved every part, even the scary ones. I really do hope you write more to Ada and Jay. I hope we see more of their story. I've already recommended this to several friends!

As an avid reader of the Experiment in Terror series, and having read and been familiar with these characters since 2012, I was absolutely in my element when I discovered that this highly anticipated novel would be written and published by author Karina Halle.

Fear not, however, as Veiled can be read as a complete standalone novel, and whilst I was already in love with Ada Palomino and her family, you will not be totally lost as everything you need to know to enjoy this story is explained very well here.

Ada is our young and witty heroine, she is a fashion blogger who is just about to start college, and is a little spitfire who has a good head on her shoulders, despite the fact that she sees dead people and demons. Luckily for her, she has her sister Perry and brother-in-law, Dex, to help her come to terms with the fact that she is a little different to most people her age.

Grieving the death of her mother, she is starting to have vivid nightmares which also include a gorgeous ginger guy named Jay, who turns out is her protector and the man to help guide her in her journey to slay demonic creatures.

Ada and Jay's romance is a slow delicious burn, that makes you want to keep reading. Jay was an enigma who kept his cards close to his chest, but made you swoon with his protectiveness and strong alpha characteristics, I loved them together and I would love to read more as their relationship develops.

Overall, I would say that this is a scary, but sexy read that will spook you out and make your heart flutter at the same time. If paranormal is not usually your thing, then I urge you to take a chance on this book because sometimes you just need to take a leap into the unknown and escape from reality for a while, and you might just fall in love with Ada and Jay as much as I did.

If you have read EiT, this is a little different, it's unique to Ada and whilst we do get appearances from our favourite characters, the focus really is on her, and if you haven't, and you do end up loving this book, then I do hope EiT gets more readership, because this whole series really does deserve great things.

Ada Palomino is an 18 yr. old from Portland, Oregon. After losing her mother a few years ago, & her sister Perry marrying & moving to Seattle, it's now just Ada and her dad. Ada is a fashion blogger who loves clothes & make up. She is starting college in about a month, & is excited to study fashion design. She wants to live a normal life, but unfortunately she comes from a family that is anything but average. In her world monsters are real. They exist, & aren't just in your head. Ada is discovering more every day that she's powerful and special like her sister, & she has abilities she hasn't fully grasped yet.

Ada has started having dreams that often haunt her. They cause her real terror. She has hallucinations in her sleep, and has trouble figuring out what's in her head and what's real. She feels paralyzed by these dreams & begins to dread & fear falling asleep. That is until a gorgeous man begins invading her dreams. In her nightmares, this man protects her & makes her feel safe and cared for.

Ada eventually crosses paths with her dream man while awake. It turns out she has met him once before, & his name is Jay. Jay ends up being someone important to Ada, & their lives become entwined. As they start spending time together they become extremely attached to one another. Deep feelings develop & they share a unique beautiful connection. Soon, Ada can't imagine Jay not being a part of her life, but things get very complicated as Ava's dream world & real world begin to collide.

I loved this paranormal, supernatural book full of ghosts, demons & other dimensions. It deals with the afterlife & the underworld & the many layers of the mind. It has mystery & excitement. Ada is discovering how strong she really is, and at the same time fighting for her life & falling for a delicious guy she wants desperately.

I really loved this book. It was my first paranormal read by Karina. I haven't read the EIT series yet, but this book reads great as a stand alone. If you have read the EIT series already, you will love that you get plenty of Perry & Dex in this book too. I really hope Karina writes more books for Ada & Jay! I need more!!! :))

I have been (not so) patiently waiting for this book for years - and it has been everything I hoped it would be. Karina Halle has created a world that's both fascinating and terrifying and that sucks you in from the very first page. There are some pretty creepy and scary scenes but the book still didn't quite feel like horror. Those scenes were too imaginative and almost fanciful for that. It's a little like Pan's Labyrinth or Stranger Things: There are terrible, terrifying creatures but you still can't look away.
Ada is a great heroine who is really growing into herself as her own person. I loved being in her head and seeing this world - and Jay - through her eyes. Ah Jay. I loved the guy. You could never be really sure about his intentions but I just loved his relationship with Ada and the slow burn of their romance.

Of course I also loved seeing my beloved EIT characters again. That said, you should know that Veiled is a little different. You get a similar vibe in the beginning but in the end it's it completely own story and has a very different feel to it. You can definitely read it without know the EIT series (you'd miss out though :).

I really hope Karina Halle will get back to Ada and the other characters of this story one day.

Veiled – Karina Halle
I won a copy of this book from the blog Rachel Reads Ravenously – thank you again, although I was minutes away from buying!
Veiled is a standalone paranormal book with character ties to her Series EIT – Experiment in Terror. For the EIT lovers out there, I imagine you will love that your favourite characters have come back to play. For newbies like me, you will not feel left out for not having read EIT previously. At no point in this book did I feel lost or left out because I had started with Veiled, which is a point that Karina has really been trying to get out there.
This was my first paranormal read (I don’t count vampire stories as paranormal – should I)? Anyway, I had shied away from this book at first thinking it was out of my comfort zone – I don’t do demons and the likes. Since I found myself with a book free weekend (no blog reviews due), I decided I would give Veiled a shot and I am so happy I did.
This story was pure Karina, everything that makes me love her whenever there were no demons to be conquered. This story never got too ‘scary’ for me and kept me turning the pages until The End (which came way too fast!) The imagery that Karina projects is amazing, I am sure I will be scratching at the ants and batting away spiders for days to come. I’ll always check under the habits of nuns for tails and I’ll always be warier in parking garages! Only Karina can combine a paranormal demon slayer book with glimpses of reality (like Inception, Tom Hardy, and Beetle Juice) to make the reader start to believe that this could really be happening.
The romance side of this story was once again developed in pure Karina style. Ava and Jake do the dance for a long time before finally exploring each other and although she had me fooled into thinking it was finally happening a few times, when it did it was absolutely the best. The slow anticipation, the teasing words, the soft seduction from Ada, and the controlled Jay coming apart piece by piece, slowing giving in to the animalistic side that is all man with blood pumping (very hot) through his veins! I think I may have to do a re-read of Chapter 16 a few times. Karina just knows how to make us fall in love with her men.
I give Veiled 5 shining stars and I don’t do this lightly. When a book brings out all the feels and even brings out my tears, it earns those 5 stars. Ava and Jay did that for me. Tears fell in both sadness and joy. This book is not a cliff-hanger but it has left the door open for a trilogy and I hope my review helps to make that a reality because I need more Ava and Jay lovemaking scenes. They are awesome.
Quote that made me cry: “Then why is he staying away from me?” “Because he needs to for the time being, to go back to the way he was, to forget you in . . . that kind of way.” WHAT!!! NO!!! He can’t forget her – she needs him, he needs her. There has to be a way for the immortal man to be with his little demon slayer!
Quote that made me happy dance: “We’re not supposed to be together. It’s not allowed. Plain and simple. I’m saying – we can’t be together. But that doesn’t mean we won’t be.” EEEEE! Thank you Karina! Thank you for figuring out a way to give us more Jayda in the NEAR future.

I think "standalone" is only barely true of this one. I haven't read the other series to which this one is related, and that wasn't insurmountable. One of the characters jokes at one point that hanging out with a particular group of friends is hard because you never get their in-jokes or know the backstory. This was kind of along that line. I could follow it easily enough, but I did keep wondering if I'd get more if I had read the related books. More importantly, while not a plot cliffhanger, this one is clearly intended as the first in an ongoing series of its own. The author notes at the end state as much. It is being plotted out as a trilogy, and she'll write the others if this one is successful.
