Very informative book. However, I lost too much weight on paleo, so I certainly could not go as far as doing AIP that she suggests which is an even stricter diet. I am trying now to eat balanced Mediterranean diet with more fruits and veggies and get better sleep . . . Hope that works. It is a very informative book though.

This is a book worth reading and obviously the result of lots of experience helping patients. Autoimmune diseases are rampant in people I know, suddenly, and the information they get from their doctors is really depressing. Personally I have psoriasis, which is certainly not one of the worse ones as it is mainly annoying rather than life threatening, but I'm really happy to have a strategy instead of just taking toxic drugs or pouring steroids on my head. Thank you so much for all of your research.

Nothing here that you wont find on the internet, The entire basis of this book is to cut out gluten and buy a variety of expensive things that Amy just happens to sell, perhaps Amy Myers who can't seem to stop promoting her program, even after you buy it, just hasn't noticed that there are a tonne of people out there who don't eat gluten but still have autoimmune issues. Next step is to assume that you have mercury poisoning and to use the same tests that quackwatch warns against.
Sorry to be critical but unless you smoke tobacco , eat nothing but gluten and spend your whole life stressing and inhaling mold then you probably wont improve much by reading this

Good book that provides very useful and effective health enhancing information. Dr. Myers did a great job of consolidating and conveying this information in a way that readers can absorb and easily apply. I highly recommend this book to anyone with autoimmune conditions, as well as every health seeking person.

Easy to digest, makes common sense, and BEST of all, this book has helped me get my quality of life back. Simple testing by a Functional Medicine practitioner and I find I am allergic to gluten and eggs. After three weeks, I can notice the difference. At eight months, my quality of life is back about 80%. Unbelievable. Folks want to know if I cheat? What, are you kidding me? My rheumatologist kept telling me it was RA or LUPUS and pushing drugs. Drugs, that's how the inflammation started in the first place!

So grateful to have found Dr. Myers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And her Autoimmune Summit was the key to believing for me!

As someone who has suffered from autoimmune disease (Crohn's) for almost 15 years, I have to say that this is a great, all-in-one "how-to" book. Dr. Myers provides a comprehensive look at autoimmune disease and in particular, how food and other toxic elements in our environment affect our immune system and set off inflammatory responses (and these responses can turn into autoimmune disease). She not only provides the science and explanations as to how the inflammation develops in the first place, but also practical suggestions for how to heal, reverse, and prevent it, including specific recipes and meal plans and suggestions for critical lifestyle changes. I especially love the fact that she is writing from the point of view of both medical doctor and patient (she has Graves' disease). This makes her perspective especially unique. I have already been following a Paleo diet (which in itself has been life-saving), but this book takes it a few steps further and gives a lot of suggestions that will help me take my healing even further. This is a must-read for anyone who already has autoimmune disease, or anyone dealing with inflammatory symptoms (headaches, skin conditions, joint pain, etc.).

I purchased this book plus The Paleo Approach, Wahls Protocol, Paleo Cure, and GAPS. I believe buying all at the same time was most effective as I had ability to compare variations to gain valuable insight and more productive use of my time. (Instead of wanting more info and then having to take time to search out the explanation, I could immediately compare to the other books.) They are all 3 similar and based on specific research, but they all have additional options which you may need to add to modify your basic diet. The logic behind them is well documented. The Paleo Approach was most descriptive of the underlying principles of these diets and Wahls Protocol was most explanative of her clinical treatments.

I was diagnosed with an autoimmune condition (Hashimotos) about 1.5 years ago and was perfectly healthy before that (or so I thought). If you suffer from any autoimmune or chronic condition, you must read this book. It will help you understand what is happening with your condition. However, it is not easy. It will take a major diet change. I was already gluten-free, but this takes it to the next level. If you follow this plan, I do believe you will feel better. I had already been following a protocol similar to this and had already stabilized my condition, but am always looking for that next step (get off my medication).

The books provides 30 days of recipes, so you don't have to figure out what you should or shouldn't be eating on your own. This is very helpful.

A must-read for anyone with autoimmune issues - and that includes just about EVERYONE these days. Clear and detailed description of how autoimmune issues develop, easy to understand. Bonus: comes with healthy recipes and menus to use for 30 days to overcome autoimmune issues! Excellent book. I've given a few away to family members because they need it so much.

Love this book. I've read many books while trying to figure how to get better. This was the first that was uplifting and gave me hope. I followed the recommendations, healed my body and lost weight too. I recommend this book the everyone I know that has an autoimmune disease or health problems in general.

This is the book. If you have hives, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Hashimoto's, eczema, psoriasis, any Autoimmune thing AT ALL, read this book, follow the advice and realize that your doctors don't know what YOU need them to know. It's all in the stomach folks. As Hippocrates said," All disease begins in the gut".

As an author and educator, very few people know that I was diagnosed with systemic lupus years ago, after the birth of my second child. Yet, this book is so important to me and the results so dramatic and positive that I had to put this information out into the open.

Just as Dr.Myers states in her book, the medications for autoimmune conditions are often worse that the illness itself and can lead to even more complications. Upon diagnosis, I took several medications and got so much sicker that I told my rheumatologist I threw away all my medications and was going to find another way to heal.

She told me that I was going to die if I continued down that path, and after telling her that my "death" was not something she could truly know would happen nor when, I went in search of alternative methods to create and maintain health.

Well, here it is more than 30 years later and I am vital, strong and healthy! But the truth is, before reading and implementing the plan in Dr. Myers' book, I wanted even a higher quality of health and I found the remaining answers here.

Despite all the research I'd done and written about to help children overcome learning disabilities and ADHD diagnoses via the food they eat and the connection between learning and food, Dr. Myers' book opened my eyes even more! I was drinking an organic rice protein powder every morning and learned why eating any grains were actually creating inflammation. I also learned that the black organic beans were not serving me well either and why.

It is with a deep sense of gratitude to Dr. Myers and all the work she does, that I recommend everyone read this book. It is not only for people with autoimmune conditions - you'll learn so much about why certain foods are harmful and what it is in your environment that creates illness, allergies, headaches, weight gain and more.

I can now say with certainty, given the stellar results I've had following Amy's plan, that I've reversed the condition and symptoms that went along with the diagnosis I received, and after two months on the plan, almost completely eliminated the thyroid medication (those with 1 autoimmune condition are very likely to develop another and I did) I've been on for years.

I have more energy now than I did in my 30's and it is my intention to spread the word on how important the information in this book is. Should schools implement even a fraction of what is in this book in their health programs, we'd see far fewer students labeled with ADHD and other learning and behavioral challenges. I am so much more than grateful that I found this book and used everything in it! Thank you Dr. Myers.

As the “poster chid” for autoimmune disorders i found this a very interesting read. The naturopath I’m seeing recommended it and though I don’t believe that the gluten-free diet whic is part of the “Meyers Way” the book has a lot of information that I find helpful. I usually read on my Kindle but I wisely chose the paper format for this because I’ve high-lighted quite a lot in it.

She explains in non medical language how commen foods in our diets are making us sick . She has been abused by the medical community and found a better way. She gives you a 30 day diet to start the healing . Everyday menus are laid out with recipes. The recipes my husband loves eating it with me. She understands vegetarian needs ,was one herself most of her life.

I followed Dr. Myers on Facebook for a year before I bought the book. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia when I was 28 years old. I am now 57. By the time the book came out I had decided this was my last chance to ever get better. I followed the 30 day plan and dropped around 15 lbs- I felt so much better I continued and lost over 40 lbs. I have gone to her assistants also for supplements help. I was so miserable for so many years I really thought I would never lose the weight or feel good again. This has changed my life and now I know that eating clean is the cure. I tried everything over the years to feel better and lose weight. I was amazed when I changed my diet how the fat just melted off and I never felt deprived or hungry. Now I do miss some things from time to time but that food does not taste near as good as thin and healthy feels!!!

This book is excellent. I recommend it to anyone with any Autoimmune disease. She also has videos on youtube and was interviewed on "Autoimmune Summit" a few months ago, by videos. Other functional medicine doctors were interviewed by videos on that sumit also. Not sure if its still online or not. try it. Dr Kharrazian and others. Excellent online summit. Most or all those videos were also on youtube. I dont know how long youtube keeps videos before they delete them. Check it out. Most conventional doctors dont know how to treat autoimmune diseases, but now there's breakthrough treatments via natural supplements, diet, probiotics, and more..much more, where you can help yourself. Dr Amy Myers' book above is one, and here videos are also very informative and fascinating and supportive to watch. Her book is a must read for any autoimmune disease healing, which focuses mainly on healing the gut...leaky gut. Two of Dr Kharrazian's books are also important for autoimmune diseases..with some sililar and some different information from her's. they are "Why do I still have thyroid symproms when my lab tests are normal?" & "Why isnt my brain working"...also about why leaky gut, autoimmune diseases, also affects the brain function and that healing the leaky gut, heals leaky Blood Brain Barrier" I recommend all 3 of these books, to cover most of what you need to know and do. Amy Myers is a supportive, vivacious, competent, creative Functionaol Medicine (as Opposed to Dysfunctional medicne!!!) doctor...who thinks outside of the conventional box. Very inspiring and very hopeful with good solutions. i suggest get the book and watch her videos also, and you can also get a free e-newsletter to your email inbox from her, and check her website also. Not sure if Dr Kharrazian also has a free newsletter and he probably has a website. Google them both. There are ways to heal autoimmune diseases according to these 2 Functional medicine doctors. and also check out The Institure for Functional Medicne website. They have "health talks Online" for various disease videos etc with a schedule of which talks on which dates to come, and you can buy past talks/videos. Other than this, they are all free videos online, many on youtube as well..

THIS BOOK IS LOGICAL AND THE CLAIMS ARE BACKED UP BY THE RESEARCH OF MANY DIFFERENT folks. Dr. Myers lays everything out in an easy to understand manner why Gluten and other things in our diet and medications we take are causing me/you to feel bad, to be sick to have serious brain fog and more. I am slowly converting my diet to gluten free, non-gmo, etc. I have purchased recommended supplements (some from amymyersmd.com and some through the store!). It has only been 2 weeks and I don't have the complete meal plan in place yet! BUT I CAN TELL A BIG DIFFERENCE IN HOW CLEARLY I CAN THINK AND I'M NOW PUTTING OFF MY CONSULT WITH A KNEE REPLACEMENT SURGEON SINCE MY PAIN LEVEL is getting lower. Just imagine how wonderful I will be feeling once I get the diet plan and the supplements all working together.

Reading the first 10 pages was like reading what my life has been like for the last 10 years. This book is full of good information, and Dr. Myers explains it in a way that is easy to understand. Good information for anyone to read to change their lifestyle and get away from bad food choices, weather you already have autoimmune problems or not.

This Book has so much great information that I started making changes in my diet before I even finished the entire book. it has helped me to understand a lot about how your body is affected by the wrong food and sometimes unnecessary medications. I had a stroke in October 2008 caused by high inflammation in the blood ( Temporal Arteritis ) and was given Prednisone and the Doctor did not want to take me off of it. But after putting on about 25 lbs and really not feeling better better I decided to wean myself safely off it in October 2014 and started to lose the weight. When I found this book one day browsing the net about 3 months I could not put it down. Currently I am almost following the Myers Way perfectly ( except for the sugar which is the most difficult to stop ) and I can tell you that most of the pain in my legs which were the effects of the stroke and subsequent sciatica have reduced a lot and I intend to continue on this diet if necessary for the rest of my life. I recently bought the ingredients to make some of the desserts on the Myers Way so I am certain to beat the sugar addiction. I have been telling all my family and friends about this book so they too can reap the benefits of THE MYERS WAY. THANK GOD FOR AMY111111

This book is full of information, suggestions, recipes and a full outline of a meal plan which is SO helpful.
I have read and re-read some of the more relevant sections finding new and interesting things that seem so "sensible and obvious" afterwards. The contrast between standard GP practice and functional medicine is huge and Amy bridges the gap with her knowledge and understanding of both.

Well I found this book a little confusing. Dr. Meyer's is a disciple of Dr. Mark Hyman who introduced me to the concept of truly clean and healthy eating. But Dr. Meyer's contradicts some of Dr. Hyman's basic tenets. For example, Dr. Hyman makes nuts and seeds a staple of his menus, but Dr. Meyers says they are forbidden for people with autoimmune disease. She also says anyone with an autoimmune disease can never eat food with gluten ever again. Dr. Hyman says he has erased all symptoms of some autoimmune disease with a far less restrictive diet. Overall, I found Dr. Meyer's dietary restrictions impossible to follow. So I don't "not recommend" this book. But I learned from reading it that her recommendations are just not for me.

A really well-written and well-researched book that sets up a food program to heal the gut. I've been eating on this plan for three months. It's helped my gastric system. I've lost almost 10 lbs. the food and recipes are easy to fix and tasty.

So informative! I don't have an autoimmune disease, but I do have issues with gluten and hormonal imbalance. Food is a powerful healer. Recommend this book to anyone searching to feel better and healthier and has not gotten an answer to why thy feel so fatigued or unwell all the time.
