Samantha Young is a perfect example of an author who knows what the NA genre is and how to write it. Charley and Jake are in their early twenties. There is LOTS of angst with them and the supporting characters. And there are plenty of hot scenes without being overly graphic. Can't wait to see how this couple's story plays out.

Really thank the author of this story, Samantha Young, for such an exquisite written romance. I personally went back on time to my unforgetable poppy love. I could not stop reading the book! It is an innocent love that develops into a strong, sensual and unique story defying life obstacles. Dying to get the next book on this wonderful love story.

This love story had a great plot and believable scenarios. It developed the characters enough that I wanted to read the second book. I'm okay with series books as long as it's worth my time to read them. This was one of those books. I wish there had been more time to see them together without all the turmoil.

Wonderful story with fabulous writing. Strong, catchy dialogue and a romance that had heat and chemistry without explicit sex. Absolutely loved it. Charley will go down as one of my top 5 heroines for sure. Secondary characters were interesting and engaging. I definitely plan to read other books by this author.

This is the second book I read by Samantha Young. I also read "On Dublin Street" (I liked that one much better). "Into the Deep" however did not keep my attention. I think this book would be great if I were 18 and inexperienced, but I'm 36, married, and just got done reading Fifty Shades of Grey!!! I think I just picked the wrong book for my age demographic. This book is high school drama. Not for me.
On a positive note, I did like the switching back and forth of past and present story telling. That was an interesting way to unravel what happened to Jake and Charley's relationship.

What is it about Samantha Young 's writing that sucks you in and doesn't let you go? Once again she's able to create a female lead character that is strong yet vulnerable. I love Charley and the chemistry between her and her friends including Jake is real and believable and grown up. I can't wait to read the second book in this series...I'm not sure if Jake deserves her heart but we will see what Samantha Young has in store for us...keep 'em coming Ms Young, you have a devoted reader in me!

Samantha Young has done it again!!! Absolutely loved this book!

This is a fantastic story between Jake and Charley. They fell in love at a young age and something devasting happened that caused Jake to push away from everyone, even Charley. Charley had to pick up the pieces of her life without Jake.

Three years later Jake and Charley run into each other and the only thing Charley can think to do is get out of there as fast as possible. Here he is the guy her broke her heart that she can't stop thinking about. No matter how hard she tries he owns her heart. Unfortunately for Charley Jake isn't alone. He tries to talk her to her but that doesn't go well.

It's inevitable that they are going to run into each other because they are at the same school and Charley's roommate Claudia is hanging out with Jake's roommate Beck.

The more Charley is around Jake and Melissa the harder it becomes for her. Clearly Jake is not quite over Charley either by the looks he gives her and how he is spending a lot of time hanging out with her. Eventually it is too much for Charley. Things eventually come to a head and it leaves Jake and Charley to decide if they want to try to be together or if she should go separate ways.

As much as Charley loves Jake she's not sure if she can trust him ever again. He makes promises to her that he will earn her trust back and sometimes the past repeats itself. Can these two who truly love one another be able to conquer everything that steps in there way or will they decide enough is enough and go there separate ways?

I am super excited to learn that there is another book to continue the story between Jake and Charley! I'm looking forward to reading more about Claudia, Beck, and the rest of the gang. Book 2 cannot come soon enough!

This is a winner. Probably my favorite Samantha Young novel, and definitely one of my all-time favorite adult contemporary romances. In the world of often cliche story lines and writing styles within the romance genre, Young manages to create captivating, multi-dimensional characters, creating transporting inner worlds, and drawing in readers into the emotional journeys encountered by the characters. I've already re-read this book twice within an 18-hour period.

Jake and Charley have quite a story. I immediately felt sympathetic towards Charlie when she realized Jake was back in her life. The author does a great job of establishing a strong connection with the main characters of the story.

It was an intense story at times, but well told. Can't wait to see what happens next.

This couple was the perfect couple until they weren't. Finding each other again half a world from where they ended brings life into full chaos for this once perfect pair. Watching them find their way through the past and the present into the future is a rocky but amazing story of love and resilience. Great read! Loved it!

Beautiful. Intense. Passionate. Real. Emotionally Heartbreaking.

A beautifully woven tale about two young people who fell in love for the first time but torn apart over a tragic incident yet found each other again the second time around. A second chance for first love.

Into the Deep tells the story of Charley Redford and Jacob Caplin - how they met, fell in love, broke up, struggled to move on with their lives and after almost 4 years of separation, found each other again. The story was narrated from Charley's POV alternating from the past and present, allowing us to fully understand their relationship back when they were only 16 and now that they're both in College in Edinburgh University in Scotland. Charley felt elated that finally she's living her dream of studying abroad with her "bestest" best friend in the world - Claud. So when one night they were invited to a party, she was devastated to see there the one person she was trying to forget but couldn't, the guy who broke her heart - Jake. And to make matters worse, he wasn't alone but rather with his new girlfriend - Melissa.

From the moment we'd met, he'd dragged me into the deep, swearing to me he was in there with me. It was a lie. He'd waded back out to the shallows and left me to drown. Worse, he'd found a new deep elsewhere with some other... Charley

The fact that they have common friends (Beck, Lowe, Denver, Rowena & Matt), Charley couldn't seem to avoid him forever and with Claud's platonic relationship with Beck who happens to be Jake's best friend make things more difficult for her. So they made a truce - they would try to remain civil to each other, bury their past and be friends once again. But the truth remains - they still love each other.

Charley's character is admirable. She's smart, brave, loyal, lovable, charming and beautiful. She oozes sexiness even without exerting too much effort that makes her more endearing to guys around her. Jake? So I hated him at first the fact that he broke Charley's heart. But as the story unfolds and found more things about him especially when they were still in high school, I think I got to like him as well. But still dragging Melissa into the scene made me want to strangle him...hahaha!

This story really fascinated me. I finished reading it at 2AM and I still have to go work that same day. I just couldn't put it down. Even after reading it, all the scenes kept playing in my head in a repetitive mode. That's how brilliant this story is. All the characters in this story were well-rounded and not just to add comic relief but added more depth into the story. I loved each characters especially Lowe. OHMY! He's not just the gorgeous, tattooed/pierced and bad boy lead singer of the band "The Stolen" but he was more than that. He's charming, sweet, caring and attentive to Charley. He just know the right things to say every time. If I could only force Charley to choose him over Jake. Sigh! And the drama between Claud & Beck? These two infuriates me. Their attraction towards each other was undeniable, I felt like they were about to explode everytime they're together but too stubborn to admit their true feelings to one another. Aargh!

I really, really loved this story. Honestly, when I bought this I didn't know that this was a series but it didn't dampen my spirit and still read the book. The story has a perfect mix of angst, steam and humor. The story ended with a positive note. Charley & Jake have their HFN ending and I'm happy with it. Though there were a lot of unresolved issues in the story which I hope would be solved in the next book. I just felt bad that I have to wait until 2014 for it to come out. Waiting sucks but I know it'd be worth everything.

I couldn't really connect with the characters. I found the back and forth of the narrative to be good at first, then I hated it. I didn't like Jake at all, I found him to be a jerk. Just wasn't for me. I was so excited for the book, then was let down.

Argh. another series. it is great for a writer not to rush and make the book complete. My issue is this need to stretch and then to put out the series about a 6months plus apart. I think I get a little disappointed because of the wait. I read the sample and was addicted. i enjoyed charley. I know a lot of reviewers didn't. I didn't really like Jake. I liked Lowe. It was written well and I liked the idea. But there was a lot and I do mean the whole issue with them and the book was because of Jake.

so here comes my rant and spoilers.

Jake- applies to this program hoping to see her and say sorry and forgets about her and gives Melissa a chance.
The right away that he still loves her (confirmed by pov at the end) but stays with Melissa.
Basically strings them both along. I thought Charley did very well with her side.
Melissa and him "breakup" and he is all weird. goes back to take care of things, doesn't want to move things along, goes to her in an instant without even thinking of Charley. WTF. Ups and leaves and never text her... 2 in the morning goes back to get her like she shouldn't be mad. "u know I had to" attitude. then they have sex for the first time in 4 years, after saying they would take it slow. HATED THE LAST CHAPTERS>
--- am I alone in the fact that Jake could totally be seeing them both, or something happened. I went over the convos over and over... things line up.

So scared of the next book. But I need to wait till Jan. Perhaps Out of the Deep means get over and Jake and fall in love with Lowe.

I loved this book. The characters grabbed you and pulled you in. I felt their emotion throughout the entire book. Samantha Young has an amazing talent. I felt the full spectrum of the conflicting emotions the characters felt, I was moved by their struggle to find peace in their relationship and navigate their way from terrible heartache. I cannot wait for the next book. I liken Ms. Young to another talent Julie Hockley.

The beginning of the story is great, the relationship between Charley and Jake is sweet and you can tell is the real deal, but towards the end of the book it became boring and there is no cliffhanger for book 2, I'm not sure I would even read it, we'll see...

Another great read by Samantha Young. Just enough angst to make my heart sink at times, but not too much that I wanted to throw my Kindle. Jake is your all American, hunky, good looking, sweet boy and Charley is the queen of smartassness, completely unaware of her beauty and carefree. It's a true first love story, it's about second chances and forgiveness and learning to trust that person again. The story is a page turner. The secondary characters are fun I hope to learn more about Lowe, Beck and Claudia in the sequel. Totally recommend Into The Deep and can't wait to read more about Charley and Jake.

Loved it and eager for the second book about Charley and Jake. I like this author's style and have read her book On Dublin Street several times and looked for more of her work periodically. I love how she makes her characters strong, witty, and honorable....very refreshing.

I liked the storyline, however I kept getting confused as to how old the characters in the story were - one minute I thought they were college-age teens, the next I thought they must be in their 30s - neither of which are true, I don't think...

This was definitely an intriguing, sweet, and full of angst read! I loved reading back and forth between the past and present - it really allowed you to understand them as a couple and what broke them apart. You really felt their love even in high school and although it had been years later, you could definitely tell the tension. I was so upset it was a cliffhanger, but I'm looking forward to more Jake & Charley!

This book is filled with great characters. Some you hate and some you feel sorry for. Jake was totally swoon-worthy. Sometimes I felt the things he said at 16 were unrealistic, but nonetheless, I loved it. He was a charmer and even I felt it hard to resist him. Poor Charley was so conflicted with her emotions...she was trying sooo hard to do the "right" thing but in the end, she followed her heart and I was happy she did. I hope their story continues with a HEA!!! :)

Samantha Young is one of my very favorite authors. On Dublin Street is by far my favorite book of all time & I will continue to read her books! :)

I had mixed feelings about this book. As others have mentioned, it alternates between the past relationship between Charley and Jake in high school and when they meet up again during study abroad programs in college. You know from the beginning that they had a traumatic breakup that Charley has not really recovered from after 3 years. You know that Jake somehow hurt her terribly, but you are well into the book before you find out what happened to end their earlier romance. You quickly figure out that Jake is in Edinburgh because he wanted to see Charley again, but, for me at least, it was very off-putting that he brought his current girl friend Melissa with him. Plus, although he seemed to be clueless about it, he was flaunting his closeness with Melissa. Their mutual friends certainly picked up on that. **SPOILERS** I liked the intensity of the past relationship Charley and Jake had and felt very badly for her when he first shut her out and then dumped her. I tried to remember that he was just a teenager when all this happened, but I felt his excuse for not contacting her when he finally came to his senses (he thought it was too late to make amends) was somewhat flimsy. Plus I didn't like the fact that he kept giving her mixed signals in the present when he was with Melissa and that it took as long as it did for him to finally shape up. The idea that it took her dad's reaction to Jake when he saw him at the airport when they were returning to the U.S. for spring break to realize that Charley must still have feelings for him seemed flimsy, too. I agree with other reviewers that Jake needed to do a lot more groveling before he got Charley back after all he'd put her through in both the past and present. In addition, I thought Jake went overboard worrying about Melissa and her feelings after they broke up. That was on top of him having told Charley when he was still with Melissa that he loved her (Melissa). This book was good, but also very angst-driven. I was glad Charley and Jake finally got back together and that it was fair that, due to his past actions, she couldn't quite bring herself to say "I love you" back to him right away. However, I also feel that their story should've been finished in this one book. I'll probably read the sequel, but I know already that another ton of angst in their relationship will not sit well with me.

I loved every word. Charles is a strong beautiful woman. I needed a book with a strong female, they seem to be hard to find. The friendships were real and fun. The love story...epic. read this book. You won't be disappointed.... well except for waiting for the next book.

I really enjoyed books by S. Young her stories are different. I fell in love with On Dublin Street I have read it over 5 times. This book was not as steamy as On Dublin Street but it is still a good read.
Charles and Jake are examples of chemistry and forever kind of love. But it is like both characters are clueless to the fact that they are a forever kind of love. There are a lot of bad things going on in this book's past that tear the young and fragile love apart. I hate that this book was not concluded. I think the other characters in the book could have made this book into a series. This was my main complaint with this novel. I am so tired of reading book with cliff-hangers that take the author over six months to complete. Also why do the authors not tell the readers that it is a series. Yes the readers inform other readers but I think the authors should just state it is a series. Most e-book readers read more than five books in a month so all these series books discourage the readers from buying series because of untimely conclusions.
I think this book would have been better if the author was not trying to make a series out of it. The past could have been explained in less chapters and the present could have progressed more rapidly.

Chose this book because Samantha Young is the best, in writing about drama and forgiveness. Great read just wished that she could have written the entire book in both leading characters point of view.

The book was great in the latter half - the first half made me put it down for a few weeks since it started off boring. I picked it back up and the action finally got going. It was a great story of second chances.

I think this is just a perfect book, halfway through I was worried that it's gonna have a rushed ending so I was quite relieved that there will be a sequel. Charlie and Jake's love story is one that deserves to have two books written about it.
It was funny, it was charming and sometimes it was so devastating you could feel your own heart breake. But it never strayed from the real world: it was a story of two people finding their "true love", losing it, then trying to find each other again...and the hard part is yet to come.

I loved these two and even their best friends Claudia and Beck who by the way need their own story asap. The story to me was at a great speed and I felt so much angst and sexual build up btw the two main characters.

Probably better than on Dublin St. These characters are so great. I love her contemporary writing style, I know this is expensive but sometimes you spend just as much on 3 crap reads as one super great story, this is worth it! I am an unashamed hopeless happy ending romantic fool :)

Reading this story brought all kinds of memories back from high school, especially since being so young and not really knowing what love is, I knew then I was in love, and the pain that Charley felt when jake left her I felt it too. I had someone leave me too for not real reason, but we found our way back just like Charley and Jake did, but the emotions are just are as raw. Samantha did a wonderful job explaining how each character felt and what they went through in each of their perspectives. Jake had witnessed a horrible thing that will be with him for life, but he is getting through it, and with Charley's help it will get better in time. I loved this book, I couldn't put it down! I know you will enjoy it too!
