Wicked was overall good with some bad/ slow parts, while Son of a Witch was overall bad/ slow with some good parts. I really want to like it but it has proven to be difficult. A lot of skimming and I really don't feel like I have missed much.

In a time of trash writing and supermarket paperbacks, this book is different. A creative book with great writing, this book is never what you expect it to be. The only critique I had was that it was mostly about character development, and had a rambling plot. But to those who enjoyed Wicked, the character development was worth it.

I enjoyed "Wicked" and felt it was a brilliant book. But I have actually enjoyed "Son of a Witch" more. "Son of a Witch" does not spend as much time examining the nature of evil as "Wicked" did, and for that it makes it a marked improvement over the original. It's quick-paced and thoroughly entertaining, a fairly easy read.

The book was really well written but at times, it just completely lost me and I found myself wondering, what's the point? I like the series so far but it's always leaving me wanting more and not always in the best way.

Books are great, came right on time even earlier than expected, the only thing I didn't like was that it was not specified one was paperback and the other hardcover. But that doesn't keep me from reading :) great books, they came in good condition and realy fast!!

What would happen if the witch actually had a child. Would he interact, politically speaking, with the greater oz? Would he be green, evil, or a hero. What would his story be? I very much enjoyed finding out.

I cannot understand which book some of these naysayer reviewers read...I can only imagine that they got lost along the way to their refrigerators looking for bologna sandwiches and stumbled into a text wholly foreign to the brilliant book I read: SON OF A WITCH. Perhaps their attention spans have been befuddled by too much reality television, because if one got confused or bored by SON OF A WITCH then it is surely their own fault and not the author's. It's mesmerizing, it's clear, it's easy: LIIR IS THE WITCH'S SON. OK? AND SO ON. This book is a marvel and one need not have read WICKED to enjoy it thoroughly. So many parallels to the war of today are illuminated, so much delicious satire and sly dialogue, so much joy and pain and exquisite description and action in equal measure. Fly out of your own hell on a broomstick made of words, up the draft into Maguire's world of Oz. Just magnificent and compelling, every word and phrase a gem. I could stay in Oz forever, if it is this well written and intelligent and hilarious. Bravo!

This picks up where Wicked left off. It resolves some issues of Liir's birth and helps him resolve some of his childhood issues. He continues his mother's search for Nor and just misses finding her. He continues looking for Nor thoughout the book. Along the way, he meets up with numerous characters from the original book. It is well worth the read if you are a Wicked fan. The ending definitely left me wanting more and hoping for another sequel.

Boring and rambling. This made it even longer and more difficult to read. It felt like the auther couldn't come up with any substance for the character and then threw in his own philosophysing. Too weird.

I read "Wicked" because of the really cool billboard for the musical that I saw in LAX. Elphaba was a person full of passion and tragedy and an imminently lovable character. Unfortunately in the sequal, Liir is not. "Son of a Witch" is much more existentialist than "Wicked", and it is hard to find out what is the point - maybe this is the point.

Ellen R. Rigby, author of Southern Fried Skeletons- Gregory Maguire is a master of the English language, no doubt. Son of a Witch is a good read and in my opinion one of the best of the Wicked series. The long journeys in the books get a bit tiring, but are interesting with all the different characters that they meet along the way. An entertaining, creative read.
