Always been fan of L. Frank Baum cause watching The wizard of oz movie, taken away by the enchantment by magic an message of story. But reading this book I felt taken through journey through yellow brick road an experience magic of characters gone through. Stories our amazing long an looking at book and movie.. I love book better!! As fan of books I was just satisfied with story plots.

I miss the illustrations from the original editions. The stories are of course classics, but so were the pictures. It makes me said when the people doing the conversions to eBook format can't find an easy way to include the pics.

Several folks on here commenting on how the stories are incomplete, can someone verify or deny this for the rest of us? The packaging is great, cover art is great, it's hard for me to imagine someone spending that much time and effort on the packaging and not get the internal stuff right? The idea of having the complete oz collection in a format like this is very exciting, just hope it's all there. It would be easy to cross reference the Wizard of Oz story, I have a scholarly Oxford edition of that, but the others would probably be more tricky to navigate.
Update:
I've gone through and physically verified that all the chapters in this collection (volume One only) line up with the pdf google images of the first editions of volume One of this collection, the first three stories:The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, The Marvelous Land of Oz, and Ozma of Oz. I did not verify all the volumes, because the complaints were with the first volume and I saw no indication of misprinting or missing chapters. Maybe they have corrected this with newer printings, but it's hard for me to believe with a publisher like Simon & Schuster they would put out a product that is as flawed as some are saying.
There are no visuals, that's true, and probably hurts the collection some. But the stories are all there, from what I can see. So I'm pleased with this collection. It would be cool if the Library of America took on this project, as that would be a great edition to their collection of American literature.

Though I really enjoy these books, and the bindings on them are quite pretty, I found myself having to take a star away simply because all the beautiful and wacky art created for the original books, found in many of the reprints, is not included at all not even the covers. These books tell some brilliant stories great for reading to your children but if you want pictures to match look elsewhere these are far more academic seeming then casual reading.

I was a very disappointed that the books have NO illustrations. Where are all the beautiful pictures from L. Frank Baum's original books? The stories are there and the set is complete, but little else.

As every reviewer has previously stated, there are no illustrations. Definitely not for kids. I thought I'd throw my two cents in for this: those of us who are adults and never read the Oz books, it's a practical set. It's not expensive considering it's five volumes, and the print is large enough for aging eyes. If you want to satisfy yourself that you've read all the Oz stories, this set will save you the bother of hunting them down individually. However, if you truly enjoy illustrations that help to embellish the mind's eye, you should probably hold out for a different collection. I'm going to keep my set, but honestly, I'm disappointed. It's OZ for heaven's sake - we want pictures, yes?

gift order arrived unwrapped and without gift tag .
It is somewhat large but I;ve wrapped bigger packages.
I can't swear that I WAS CHARGED for wrapping since I don;t have visibility of the original order.
Please check into if possible.

I was very disappointed. What I'm looking for are the set of Oz books which are written in more detail like the ones I read years ago. These seemed so scant on details. I guess that's how they were able to get 3 titles in one book.

I bought this set for my granddaughter, but I didn't realize that there are no illustrations. No wonder the price was so reasonable! The description on the store was so lacking in details that I didn't think I would be receiving a set of books with none of Denslow's or Neill's -- or anyone's! -- original illustrations. What's a children's book without pictures? The good is that adults can have all 14 of Baum's books plus one by Ruth Plumly Thompson in five volumes for their reading pleasure. If I had only known about the lack of illustrations beforehand, I would have bought the set on Kindle.

This complete work of fiction describes a tornado which takes people to a green place. It’s not true. I’ve been in tornados. They’re not nice and don’t take you anywhere green, just break stuff. Not real to life. And some wired subplot about slippers and a lion which had me really confused.
