Lord of Night is Simon Spaulding, a handsome commoner, a Bow Street Runner, an extremely honest man, almost to a fault, and every inch the gentleman. He is, also, the by-blow of a peer. Our heroine hides her identity from him, but not purposely. It just kind of happened. Dahlia Grenville is headmistress of a school for girls. They meet when he hears her trying to protect a little girl from being assaulted near her school. As a Runner he steps in to chase down the possible assaulter.

Simon finds himself going by to check on the girls and to see Dahlia altering his normal routine or truly his lack of routine. She even pulls him in to assist with dancing lessons. As he does all of this, Simon comes to care for the girls almost as much as he cares for Dahlia.

Simon and Dahlia both have their background issues which have molded them into the adults they are today. Dahlia’s mother does not deal well with her working and running the school. Her mother, the baroness, does everything she can, including using bribery, to try to bring Dahlia back into the family home to look for a titled and wealthy husband. Dahlia’s life and mission is to help others even at the cost to herself.

Simon, as a bastard of Lord Hawkridge, has a younger half-brother, the current Lord Hawkridge. Simon grew up believing his half-brother did not know about him, wanting to have the advantages his brother did, wanting to have his father’s attention as his brother did. This relationship, or lack of relationship is so much a part of Simon and sets up for the next book in the series with Hawkridge as the Hero.

Since we know from the beginning Dahlia is a thief, you know what is going to happen, but not how it is going to happen. Seeing Dahlia refuse to compromise if it will hurt her girls and seeing Simon refuse to compromise his belief in the law sets up a great story line. Both of them learned a lot from each other as their relationship grows. The sensual part was a bit of a surprise, but super enjoyable, even just kind of funny.

Erica Ridley is one of my favorite authors. This Rogues to Riches series is lighthearted reading at its best. Although Lord of Night is third in the series, it can be read as a standalone. Ms. Ridley is great about connecting previous characters in the series so you feel like they are your friends rather than characters in a book. Looking forward to reading Faith and Hawkridge's book!

This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy.

There was so much depth and feeling in this story! At first, I really wondered how Simon and Dahlia were going to be able to make a relationship work when she was from the upper class and Simon was the illegitimate son of a marquess for starters - he was also an inspector responsible for finding the Thief of Mayfair and she was the thief!

I liked how we could see the change in Simon from being a loner and not wanting to have anything to do with his co-workers, and not having a relationship to falling for Dahlia and her academy of girls. Dahlia felt that she could never marry beneath her and really hurt Simon when she turned down his proposal. That was so sad to read. Even worse was when Simon finally catches the thief and sees that it is Dahlia and handcuffs her and is ready to turn her in to the authorities - even knowing that she could be hung for the crime.

The story kept me involved with the romance, and the relationship between Simon and Dahlia and the relationship that Simon hoped to have with his half brother. I really want to learn more about what happened with Hawkridge and Faith!

This is the first book that I read in this series and I would love to know more about Dahlia's sister, Cam and how she met and married Wainwright and what is going on with those caricatures??! I am also looking forward to the next book in the series so I can read what happens next!

Lord If Night is an excellent read I guarantee that you will not be able to put it down until you're finished.

Simon Spaulding is a Bow Street Runner for him there's only one way of doing things-by the book. His career is everything to him and he's finally thinking of settling down. But first he has to catch the Mayfair thief. Lady Dahlia Grenville is a young woman who's living on the fringe of society, she's not a simpering young debutant she runs a home for young women down on their luck with nothing and no one to turn to. Running a home for these women is costly the dependents more than the benefactors. The only thing left for Dahlia to do is become a thief for the good of the women.
Thieving from the rich she puts her self in danger of being caught by Simon.
Simon can't believe that the Mayfair thief is non other than the woman he's been courting! Confused and conflicted his career in jeopardy he doesn't know what to do. Should he turn her in and save his career or turn a blind eye and save the woman that has stolen his heart ❤️

A real treat well written and very entertaining. Lots of suspense and intrigue with a wonderful happy ever after in sight.
I received a complimentary copy from the author for my honest unbiased review.

A moving and enticing story which speaks about giving others less fortunate than yourself an opportunity to improve and make themselves more attractive to the job market. Dahlia is no delicate flower she has a loving and caring heart bolstered with a feisty spirit, she is trying to make life safer and happier for girls less fortunate. We also have Spaulding a man trying to make the place safer for the citizens and who does everything by the book but that imp Cupid surely put him to the test by mixing his black and white with colors but when cupid started nudging him, his black and white had some colors mixed in, what an interesting tangle. The storyline is a gem and the characters are great, it is heartwarming and very thought provoking, a most enjoyable read.

Miss Dahlia Grenville is the daughter of a baron and headmistress of a school for poor girls. Mr. Simon Spaudling is a respected inspector for Bow Street and they have fallen in love.
This has a little bit of a surprise and it does have a twist or two to it. Not only was it an excellent book but the author handled it so well. It was vivid, concise, even paced and moved well. It was a real pleasure to be able to read Erica Ridley's newest story. The characters were amazing and seemed very true to life. I found the banter between her siblings, Simon and also with the students of her school, funny. It did get a little racy in one spot, even though kisses were welcome.
I received this book from the author and I voluntarily reviewed it.

The Lord of Night is Simon Spaulding, a Bow Street Runner. He only sees situations in black or white. For him, there are no shades of grey so when he discovers who is steeling from the rich will he be able to close his eyes and look the other way?
In the meantime, he and Dahlia Grenville, a young debutante, have fallen for each other. She runs a home for young ladies who have nowhere else to live.
This is their story and it is written by Erica Ridley as only she can write it, with love and compassion, a little bit of mystery and a whole load of entertainment and for this reason I highly recommend it as a great read.

Loved how hard Dahlia worked to save the children that were being abused, or living on the streets, from becoming women of the night or worse. Simon was a workaholic to be the best Bow Street Runner he could be. Circumstances threw them together and they fell hard for each other but when you read the book, you will see why circumstances held them apart. Always enjoy Erica Ridley books.

Loved the story line, the characters were great together. This one is a bit different than the rest of the books in the series so far and Dahlia's commitment to the students is amazing. Loved the back and forth between Simon and Dahlia.

This was, as always, a fabulous read from Erica! I loved how Simon and Dahlia were so similar in many ways, both of them working for the good of London's poor and unfortunate, but with one great difference that threatens to destroy them: one believes the end justifies the means, while the other does not.
