Absolutely LOVED this book. Mystical fiction enmeshed in enigmatic truth. How soon we forget who we are and where we came from. Well researched and masterfully written - the artwork is brilliant. Some will read it and enjoy it as pure fiction others will come away questioning the origins of their beliefs, the rest of us will recognize the echoes of long forgotten truths.

I loved this book for many reasons. The author took the standard Santa Claus figure and spun him into a completely different light. Brom introduced Krampus as the antithesis to Christian celebrations of Christmastime. Incorporating pagan lore and Norse legends, the entire story was a brand new rendition. The author brought all of these elements into the modern world and somehow made it believable. It was a wonderful read.

I started reading this book with a very clear sense of where it would be going, but I found it had alot of unexpected surprises for me. It almost reminds me of a grown up verison of the Grinch that Stole Christmas. This book was alot of fun to read and had some great characters in it. Brom is a triple threat of artistic talents.

Good, not great. Predictable and shallow. A mildly entertaining read, but hard to get a sense of what the actual plot is. Good for someone who doesn't want to think too in depth about the story or look for any kind of deeper meaning.

Interesting use of different mythologies to form a unified, and plausible, backdrop. Jesse's role as the central character in search of redemption is well done and the rural culture of WV is used, but not over abused.

It is always nice to rekindle old mythology while breaking down modern myths all in the disturbing and at times painful manner of destroying a childhood hero. I loved the book and I'll be leaving candy in my shoe this yuletide.

Without spoiling, A rollicking yarn of varied story-angles, despair, un-remmiting Love, the discovery of self determination, the joy of wanton behaviour, passionate summary justice and a broad spread of individual credos followed by the spectrum of characters. I could have asked for more but that would just be selfish. I'm certain to read more of this man's work.

Engaging and inspired, bleak and wonderful, an obvious work of passion and creatively-applied research. It is refreshing to read a nature god written as a nature god should be - devoted to their archetype, impassioned, great, and terrible. The climactic scene is a work of atmospheric art.
My main critique is its utter failure of the Bechdel-Wallace test, which is disappointing given how good the few important female characters are. There are also a few unnecessary instances of homophobia, which stand out sharply in an otherwise smooth narrative.
