My sister was talking to me about how expensive art books are, so I went on the store to try to find some for her, and we chose this one! She absolutely loves it, and I spent much less than I would have at Michael's.

This book is THE BEST starting point to learn how to draw the human head and form in a very simple and clear way. It's NOT going to give you a perfect anatomical, indepth study - however if you want to be able to get the human figure down on a paper in it's most clear, basic way - this is a great book. It also shows clothed figure - which I have found it difficult to find in other books. A great start if you want to draw realistic figures or if you're looking to go into cartooning and need a basic knowledge of the human figure. I LOVE it.

Anything by Jack Hamm is extremely educational. Ive ordered a few of his books and didnt pay more than a dollar for each. I am a fairly accomplished artist and I learned alot from these books, yet they are also appropriate for beginners. I recommend this book and any other Jack Hamm drawing book to anyone.

This book is very detailed and gives a good foundation of head and figure drawing. For a beginner like myself, it was easy to understand and helped me gain much needed understanding of proportions of the head and body.

This is a very good figure drawing and general anatomy book for both beginners and seasoned artists. The images are a little dated, but it's in depth and very informative. Although no book can cover every aspect of figure drawing, this one does the trick. Highly recommended.

This book is good for persons who are starting to draw figures. Though I haven't used it in a long time, I'd like to give it to someone who wants to know more about drawing the human figure. It is informative and easy to read and learn how to do eyes, hair and forms.

I have the Jack Hamm book on "Drawing Scenery" which is a gem. Every page and picture in his Scenery book is helpful and well thought-out. Maybe his style of illustration is better suited to broad concepts he explains in his scenery book. I cannot help thinking Hamm spent a less time on his Head and Figure book. The Head and Figure book was somewhat elementary if you are experienced in drawing both the head and figure. I found the illustrations too small in many cases and too few for someone to really master and understand the areas he deals with. I really, really wish he went into more depth and utilized more pages for each area or subject he explains. For example he has 23 noses, on what I will call his one nose page, so each is very small and very quickly sketched. He has 18 sets of lips on his "Mouth page. He did a better job on the eyes where he spends about 3 pages and some larger illustrations. Also remember his style is to use very quick sketches so there is not a lot of realism in any of the work. More of a cartoon look rather than fine art. I skimmed through the book in an hour and picked up a number of helpful pointers so it was probably worth the $ 10 dollar price for me. Bottom line if you are not very experienced in drawing the head and figure this book would be a good investment but for an intermediate level artist, I would recommend a separate book on figure drawing and another book on drawing the face and head. Book arrive quickly in perfect condition.

This is an outdated book. The drawings are beautiful and there IS good information in it. But, if you want to learn how to draw a variety of body shapes of various ethnicities, then choose something else.

My teacher and more advanced art classmates recommended this book. They said it was a standard book. Maybe I was lucky to find it on the internet? I can't say it was that inspirational for me. I know that practice is important for developing more skill. I tried to use the book, but I don't feel that it helped me that much. I must be more inspired by landscapes and objects than I do with the human body at this point.
