I thoroughly enjoyed "How to Draw" by Scott Robertson and Thomas Bertling and especially liked the companion videos available through the Scott Robertson Workshop website. My only complaint with this new release is that the videos can not be played on my laptop like with "H2D", they will only work on my Kindle Fire and it is nice to see the videos on a larger screen. I have tried to contact Scott through his website but have not received a reply as of this writing. When selecting a video for playback I receive a message saying that the video file can not be played and is corrupt. This is a great book but the videos add so much to the value and help justify the higher price. Not sure if anyone else has run into this issue?

Robertson and Bertling bring their teaching prowess firmly to the fore, yet again. A comprehensive look at all the factors that designers must consider to render their ideas into form. Lighting, reflections, shadows... if you need to render it, Scott has probably already incorporated it, both by explaining the phenomenon then showing how to render it. Personally, I like to know WHY an effect exists in addition to knowing HOW to render it, and Scott and Thomas are masters at explaining.

BONUS: the book links to videos showing rendering processes. That alone makes the book worth what you will pay for it.

Buy anything Scott publishes. His books are fantastic and his videos are unsurpassed. He's a master teacher and your work will improve dramatically.

This book is fantastic for understanding light and reflections. The content is well explained with text and images. The reader is certainly able to apply the principles beyond the examples in the book.

If you like drawing cars or rockets or war equipment or science fiction things, then this is the book for you. I went by the reviews and was totally disappointed. I wanted to learn about perspective and understanding light and shadow and the book is pretty meager in that department. I was very disappointed. I could have done better just purchasing a book on perspective. Definitely not worth the money.
