Very inspiring. I've been visualizing data for decades (as an engineer) and I learned quite a few techniques in this book of how to better show data in a clear and concise manner that conveys the message. This book is great for anyone who does presentations or reports regularly and is expected to tell a story with that data.

A good book that highlights concepts in data visualization and storytelling in an easy to understand manner. Could be referenced for building infographics as well as dashboards. Printing needs to be improved.

Very happy I purchased this book. Insightful, coherent, & applicable. Excited to put it into practice. Form follows function, Gestalt principles of visualization, context of story, call to action, etc. Really great stuff. I'll probably re-read this book many times.

I just finished reading your book cover to cover. It is very well written and you have completely changed the way I look at how to visualize data. If you have never considered presenting your data from a "storytelling" perspective, this book is a must read.

Simple. Concise. Useful. Cole Knfalic's Storytelling with Data has done writers and viewers alike a favor in breaking down the confused art of storytelling with data. If you were to buy one text on this subject, this is the one. Her blog is excellent as well.

I have read several books on this subject, including the classics, and for me this is the best.
It is very complete and well rounded. It covers all the different aspects that you should take into account when making a visual presentation of data

Some good general advice, and some bad specific advice. I don't think there's anything wrong with pie charts, especially when you're trying to get a quick eyeball of the proportions between dichotomous/nominal variables (male/female, yes/no, etc.). I also think that Powerpoint presentations are highly effective if they're used appropriately. Additionally, some of the "correct" charts the author shows weren't so effective in my opinion.

Basically, If you learned how to write an argument then you've really learned the most important things in the book because you're really just applying those things to a visual argument based on data. An exception to what I just said. for me at least, was the introduction of the six Gestalt principles of perception. A couple of those principles you should live by. The book isn't a must have, but if you have it then it will probably come in handy here and there.

This is an EXCELLENT READ and REFERENCE of "Best Practices" for data visualizations and storytelling! Cole is warm, writes in easily understood terms and is completely unpretentious! This was a refreshing change of pace in "typical" books on analytics. Cole pays homage to the usefulness that color/aesthetics add to Analytics. It's not "just pretty"; When done properly it sets the tone, delivers the message and resonates with the audience . "Data Feng Shui" personified.

This is a well-written guide to being more effective with the presentation of data. Unlike some other books on the subject, this is not just a book on PowerPoint branded as a book on data. This is a book about making sense of data that make sense to you, and then presenting it effectively in a way that gets the point across and tells the story you want understood to your audience. the audience for this book is the person that is intimate with a particular kind of data. This person probably sees things in the numbers that a general audience doesn't get. Simply taking that information and putting into a PowerPoint slide is not going to get results. These kind of people need help building a bridge between their data and the audience. That's what this book is about..

I really thought that this book would be great, after reading the author's background. However, I didn't find it informative at all. A lot of basic stuff. What I was looking for were tricks, tips and great examples. What I got wasn't much better than what I can get off the internet for free.
