Nelson Mandela is portrayed as a peacemaker in this shorter biography. This is not a thorough biography but it does include most of the key parts of his life. It would be a great read for anyone who wants to know why the majority of the world considers him a great man, leader and model and doesn't want to read 500 pages to learn it, then this is the book for you.

The only place where he had some difficulty was in the marriage department. Even in those you could make a case for forgiveness.

On the Dale scale of readability, accuracy, and well written, Gillian Kendall gets an 8.2.

The author gave a particularly thorough "walk through" of his life which was most instructive to someone like me who knew nothing of his background. I found her description of his early youth particularly interesting, especially how he learned from the tribal chiefs how to deal with people and negotiate. The prison period was also illumiinating since I cannot imagine how someone might spend 20+ years behind bars and find challenging things for your mind. I found her treatment of his post prison period a bit confusing since she did not follow the chronological method used earlier. She appeared to bounce around treating similar events but at different times.
All in all, I found the book fascinating reading and recommend it to anyone looking for some background on South Africa's trip to democracy.

This book is well written it makes Nelson Mandela not only a exceptional man but a very human one. If you are like myself didn't understand the politics and government of South Africa after reading this you have a much clearer picture. If you want to understand and have a better appreciation for Mandela this is the read for you.

This book traces the very origins of Nelson Mandella's life, to the triumphant end. He was very resilient, and suffered many tragedies before his rise to power. After decades of imprisonment, he came to rule a nation. A poignant and touching account of this remarkable man's life. A good and coherent read. Buy it. You won't be disappointed!

I have not enjoyed the privilege of being alive with our USA's founding fathers. I have walked the Freedom Trail. Gillian Kendall has written a tome that is only small in page count. It allows the reader to walk in the footsteps that lead to one of the world's most magnificent accomplishments of freedom and justice that led to the nation of the Republic of South Africa.

Mr. Mandela began an ordinary life, without any expectation of greatness. We all know how that turned out and after reading, "Nelson Mandela: A Life Inspired," we know why it turned out that way. It is told with good verbal imagery and sentence structure. The books reads both quickly and well. It adheres to the salient points with clarity. I highly recommend it. Great things are accomplished by ordinary men and women doing the right thing in extraordinary circumstances.

This book has given me a much deeper insight into a well publicised individual. Although, I was rather familiar with the media image of Mandela, This book gave me realization of the real life Mandela.

I found this book helpful in understanding the life of Nelson Mandela. I knew very little about and gained more appreciation for his life and work. Wyatt North has produced another excellent and enlightening book at a reasonable price.
