This book is a real disappointment after reading the first three books in the series. I love this series because I love the character development and the small village it is set in. This book was billed as a story about "Kinky" Kincaid, the housekeeper for the two doctors who are the central figures of the Irish Country Doctor books. However, I'm already on page 101 and the only thing I'm reading about is a story Kinky is telling some local children on Christmas Day about some "eejit" in County Cork (where Kinky grew up) who fell afoul of the banshee and suffered misfortune. The story doesn't involve much information about Kinky herself and, quite frankly, drags on and on. I have no idea whether or not the entire book is made up of this story or not, but I'm not sure I'm willing to spend much more time hoping to get to a real story about Kinky in her younger days. I really feel as though I got taken for $7.99.

I read Patrick Taylor's three country doctor books first...luckily. Otherwise I probably wouldn't have read any more of his books. I am just not into fairies, spirits and banshees. I LOVED the three country doctor books and couldn't wait to read this one. I really skimmed it in many parts and the ending just drags out and you wonder if it is ever coming. I love the author but not this particular book..

A charming addition to Patrick Taylor's Irish Country Books, this book is a delight. It is a story full of Irish lore, fairies, blessings, and curses. Most of all, it is a love story. I recommend it!

After reading the first two books, I was very curious about the background of the woman who managed the doctors' home. After reading this book, I understood how the lady had reached the station in life which she now occupied. It helped me realize how important she was in the lives of the doctors and the people of the village.

Patrick Taylor brought Kinky Kincaid alive by providing so much detail from her youth and how she lost the love of her life. I especially enjoyed learning about the wee fairies and have a new level of respect for the stories that my Mom and Aunts have told me about growing up in Ireland. Thank you Mr Taylor!

After getting through the first 100 pages, the rest of the story fell into place and was delightful. Getting to know Kinky was very cute, as I had already read 4 of Taylor's Irish Village series it all came together.

This novel brings Irish tales and legends to life. The story line departs from the series a bit, but gives welcome background into the life of a key character. It is rich in description, and a pleasure to read.

The Irish Country Girl continues the series of outstanding and entertaining books about life in small town Northern Ireland. The characters are "real" and the narrative is inviting. Patrick Taylor is one of the great authors to come out of Ireland. All Patrick Taylor's books are on a par with those of Thomas B. Keane.

I thought all of Patrick Taylor's previous books of "an Irish Country" theme were wonderful.
They brought the characters very close to you and you felt like you were living their lives
along the way. But this one wasn't like the rest. I think Kinky is a charming and quirky lady
but her "story" was too long in the past. Wish it was more meaty.

My Maternal Grandmother came from Northern Ireland and shared a bedroom with me from the time I was 4 until the night before I got married. She shared her stories of Ireland with me and the things in this book brought her back to me. Thank you for that Patrick Taylor!!
