... Brittany is supposedly an adult, strong, self-sufficient woman. But she acts like a total imbecile. Dalden beams out of nowhere into her living room and she barely bats an eye. Half a second later, Dalden offers her a job. Brittany has no clue what this job is all about or even if its for real, but she immediately agrees to quit her jobs where she is slaving away night and day to earn enough money to build a house her lifelong dream - to go off with this guy and do who-knows-what. She doesnt know squat about him or how much hell even being paying her, for pitys sake. He is totally vague about what hes hiring her for and even says he has no money. He offers to pay her with his gold medallion, which Brittany, being the smart cookie that she is, thinks is fake. She says he can pay her later. But shell only accept a fair wage. She refuses to take advantage of his generosity. Puhleeze. Later he tells her some lame story about not having a place to stay, so she invites him to stay in her apartment. Glad Im not her roommate! He is a complete stranger. And she is a complete moron. He could be a murderer, a stalker, diseased, or just plain crazy. But she doesnt think about any of that stuff. After 28 years of sexual frustration, she just wants his bod. Little things like who the hell he is and what hes doing there matter not at all.
The thing that bugs me most is the way Lindsey goes on an on about what a modern, strong, independent woman Brittany is. Even Martha gives Dalden a lecture about how difficult it will be for Brittany to accept his way of life because shes so liberated. Funny except for the fact that she doesnt believe in the whole spaceship thing, she has turned into the perfect little subservient Betty Crocker of a lifemate. With the exception of a few token protests, she does what Dalden wants, wears what Dalden wants, goes where Dalden wants. Nevermind her goals and dreams, her family, her friends, her life, or her freakin PLANET. And all because hes tall and hot. Halfway through the book she decides shes madly in love with him and it really doesnt matter after all if the whole thing is [untrue] as long as he doesnt dump her at the end of it. I have loved most of Lindseys work, but this one was just plain awful. It made me wish Brittany was a real person, so I could smack her upside the head. Ugh. I may never read a Lindsey again.

I loved this book. I really enjoyed the past books regarding the Ly-San-Ters and hope Johanna Lindsey puts out more. This Story is about Brittany and Dalden. Dalden is Tedra and Challens son and is just as stubborn and set in his ways as his father was in the Warriors Woman. Dalden was sent to earth to look for Jorran whom had stolen the altering rods from another planet. Jorran plans to make earth his kingdom. When Dalden meets Brittney at the mall while the town Mayor was speaking the attraction starts. Dalden needs to convince Brittney to help him find anyone who talks funny and doesn't fit into her town. This book was funny in the right spots. When Dalden claims Brittney as his lifemate, she doesn't realize it and thinks this is all some sort of elaborate project to make her think they aren't from her planet. It is fun to watch how she explains away anything she sees or hears about them and see them try to convince her. I read this book in 1 1/2 days. So when is the next book and will we ever see one on Fallons friend?

I have read and loved every Lindsey novel...except this one. Had I even guessed from the back cover that it was a continuation of the outer space series I would have walked on by. Its confusing and disjointed, jumping from one thought to the next. Throughout the book I wondered what was in the heroine's head. She spends most of the book believing the hero was a nutcase pulling a very elaborate hoax on her. And this is who she loves??? I also spent a good portion of my reading time wondering what to make for dinner, what to wear for work the next day, what kind of cake to serve for my daughter's birthday. In other words, this story definitely does not bring the reader into the storyline.

I am a huge Johanna Lindsey fan and after reading WARRIOR'S WOMAN and KEEPER OF THE HEART, I couldn't wait to read the third installment. What a disappointment! The whole book is based on the heroine, Brittany, talking to the computer, Martha. There was barely anything going on between Brittany and Dalden. It wasn't even Dalden who got to save Brittany when she was attacked by some animal on his planet. by the time he shows up, she is already brand new again. The book seems to be more about the friendship between Brittany and Martha then about any romance between Dalden and Brittany. The first two books in this series were excellent and worth repeat reads. This one, though, is a disappointment.

I started to read "Heart of the Warrior" thinking it might be an interesting read. Little did I realize this was /not/ a stand alone book. After the first promising chapter staring a 30 yr old virgin (hmmmm), we progressed on to the SF portion of the book with the hero named Dalden.
Soon, I was overwhelmed with sci-fi jargon and long interludes featuring characters from other books. This would be fine if kept to a minimum. Unfortunately, it wasn't. Since I have never read the other books I have no clue who Challen or his lifemate are...And didn't particularly care, I quickly lost interest. This seemed more like a 'reunion' book than a romance.
Perhaps this book might be good for those who've read the others in the series and want to find out what 'happened' to the other characters. For someone new to the series, I just couldn't grasp it, and this quickly became a wall-banger.

Johanna Lindsey is my favorite romance novelist. Sadly, Heart of a Warrior didn't live up to my expectations. Sorry, but Dalden the warrior/alien/barbarian didn't do much for me-- warning, folks--this book contains an attempt at science fiction. But Lindsey, a romance novelist, doesn't quite know how to go about it. Stick to romance, dear.
The romance in this book is the only thing that is saving it. At least I could believe their love for each other.
I can understand that someone who writes as many books as Lindsey does will have a book or two that doesn't live up to the quality of the rest of her books. Sadly, this is one of those few.

I had extremely high hopes when I heard that Dalden was getting his own story. Warrior's Woman and Keeper of the Heart are two of my favorite books by Johanna Lindsey. Though this book was good, I felt a bit disappointed. After experiencing the explosive passion of Tedra and Challen and Shanelle and Falon, these characters didn't strike the same spark..also I would highly recommend that anyone reading this book, read the first two beforehand, else some major confusion may set in.
Dalden heads to modern day earth in search of Jorran (a character from Keeper of the Heart) who has stolen mind altering rods from Sunder (also from Keeper of the Heart) in hopes that he can take over the planet. Brittany, a statuesque, construction working red head, first encounters Dalden at the local mall as he is attempting to speak with the mayor about Jorran's plan. His expression indicating that he is highly uncomfortable in the confined area, Brittany whisks him aside. Equally smitten, Dalden and Brittany converse with the help of his mother's Mock II computer, Martha (first introduced in (Warrior's Woman). Deciding that Brittany can be useful in the endeavor to capture Jorran, Dalden hires her to help him spot outsiders in her small town, while keeping his exact origins secert.
Jorran and his cronies are caught with little effort or time, and I am left wondering what I actually read that took up the first 200 pages. After the capture of Jorran, Martha transfers Brittany to the ship (as Dalden has claimed her for his lifemate earlier on). The next several chapters are of everyone, mainly Martha, doing their best to convince Brittany that the ship is real, Dalden is really from another planet, and everything isn't some elaborate hoax. Even landing on the moon doesn't budge Brittany, and her stubbornness is getting very frustrating at this point. Even upon arriving on his planet, Brittany is want to believe that it is some fantastical movie set in another country.
Dalden, frustrated with his lifemate's refusal to believe in his home, takes her out on what is basically a camping trip so they can be alone. Not obeying the rules to stay in the tent while he is away hunting, she is attacked by an animal. Tracking Brittany by her voice, Jorran (his home planet declared war on Sha-Ka-Ra for his mistreatment during his trip home) who is enamored, finds her and gets her to a meditech and she is fine. Dalden then finds himself having to administer a warrior's punishment (sexual frustration). Though this was a huge part of the story in the first 2 books, this one barely makes anything of it. They admit they love each other, he shows her the land where he wants her to build their house, all is well, the end.
As I mentioned before, it would be a very good idea to read the first two books before starting on this one. It will clear things up and probably make it a more enjoyable experience...it will also show you what kind of passion existed between Tedra and Challen (Dalden's parents) and Shanelle and Falon (his twin sister). I couldn't really find any reason that Brittany was drawn to Dalden other than he was taller than she was. All in all, it was a good book, it just seemed to lack her usual passion. Easily read and something anyone who has enjoyed the other books would like to read, however.

Brittany Callaghan is a tall, strong, self-sufficient woman who has been working two jobs to achieve her dream of building her own home. Due to her insecurity about her height, and her hectic schedule, she has not had much time for romance. She is bowled over when handsome, seven-foot-tall Dalden drops into her life at a crowded political rally in the mall.

Dalden is an alien warrior from a culture where women are subsurvient to men. He is on a mission to stop a conceited madman from using stolen mind-control technology to take over the earth. Brittany puts her life on hold to help him.

I found this book frustrating. The bulk of the story was told from Brittany's point of view, with occasional passages told by the super-computer Martha. Brittany seemed to focus soley on her physical attraction to Dalden. Any attempt she made to determine Dalden's personality or character, or to learn more about his background or culture, Dalden cut off with a kiss. Because there was no relationship building, I had trouble believing that Brittany would abandon her well planned life for Dalden.

In addition, there was very little input from Dalden. This made it difficult to sympathize with Dalden's struggle to reconcile his father's culture male dominated culture and his mother's more equal culture. I was not able to get a sense of why Dalden preferred a free-thinking woman to the pampered flowers of his homeworld.

Due to the flat, underdeveloped characters, I could not suspend disbelief while reading this book.

Matha was annoying and Dalden was severely lacking. What's up with all the women in this series being more than ready to just toss aside their independence and freedom, their rights, their entire lives they have created for themselves and done so with hard work and pride, simply because a beefy man wants them too?? Tedra gives up the career she adores for Challen, simply because the sex is good???? That's how it reads and the same with Brittney. So woman will give it all up and be willing to be obedient slaves as long as the sex is good?? And this punishment, please, if a woman doesn't want to get turned on, she doesn't, she has to be in the mood and want it. I know, I know this is fantasy, BOY IS IT EVER, but I have to say the last few books of Ms. Lindsey's that I've read have been disappointing. They are about men simply taking what they want, when they want, women being humiliated and demoralized and then suddenly, out of the blue falling in love with them. I'm sorry but in my fantasy's a man is not trying to break my spirt, break me down, and make me feel like I am only worthwhile if I please him and obey him. My fantasy's may involved gorgeous men, who are strong, determined perhaps a little on the headstrong, arrogant bossy side, but my women have a way of bringing them down a notch or two while the men discover that a woman with pride, rights and ability can be an enticing and exciting catch.

All three men in this series had the potential to melt every female reader if Ms Lindsey had allowed them to grow some instead of having the females deterirorate.

And what happend to Brittney's brothers?? She had a family on Earth. Lindsey seems to have left some ends untied in this book, several in fact. (Shanelle and Fallon are together 8 months and she isn't with child yet, as per Keeper of the Heart where he 'gives her' his child?)

Before you purchase this book please be advised the reviews on this page are better reading. I can only assume someone forced Ms. Lindsey to write this third book because it certainly does not reflect any love of storyline or characters. By the way anyone notice that Warriors Woman took place 2139... let's take a quick look at how our world has changed in 100yrs...think it may look a bit different 2160? I beg her not to finish the Malory series if this could be a possible result. Hey if you haven't read all of her older novels save your money here and buy a release of one of those!

Johanna Lindsey has continued the one of my favorite story lines (besides the Mallory's) with the tale of Dalden Ly-San-Ter and Brittany Callaghan. This is the third book in this series; I have enjoyed each one and would buy them again.
I would have given this book a 5 if Brittany had been more truthful with herself. She travels through space, sees strange animals, gorgeous hunks of manhood, different plants and trees. Yet she keeps insisting that she is involved in some kind of "movie program" and hasn't really left earth.
Geez, I would have embraced Dalden and off world travel like I would accept winning the Lottery. Where do I catch that space craft? Dalden?

The third book in the "warrior" series was not all I thought it would be. I enjoy all of Lindsey's novels, and I do mean all of them. The plot is interesting, but for that reason the book doesn't let us get into the character's heads as much as previous works. The main male character, Dalden, is not developed as well as it could be. All we really see is that he is the son of Tedra, the brother of Shanelle, and is gorgeous. I was waiting for some more insight. But I am not completely down on this book, don't get me wrong. I enjoyed the way Lindsey described earth and it's inhabitants.
I will always enjoy Johanna Lindsey. I just wished I would have borrowed this one, not bought it. The first two books leading to this should definitely be read before this one-"Warrior's Woman" and "Keeper of the Heart"-so the reader has an adequate background on Dalden and the other characters.

I own and love several Johanna Lindsey novels. This is one of the worse by far. Daldan is boring; Brittney is rather stupid and purely self-aware only. HOW can she decide that all of these people, animals, and [in her mind] special effects are only to mind-screw her. Seriously?? I could only skim this book, it's too bad otherwise. The very sad part is that the two previous books in this series were great and I loved them...but this is a major waste of money.

I read this futuristic series in order and have to say that Warrior Woman is one of my favorite Lindsey novels besides the Malorys. I was kind of dissappointed by the second novel and when I saw the reviews for the third novel I wasn't expecting much, but I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised.
The novel is about a Warrior named Dalden who travels to earth from another planet to find a villian and meets a woman named Brittany asks her to help him find this villian falls in love with her along the way and takes her home to his planet. Even though much of the novel does recap much of what happened in the other two novels, I think that it was necessary because we can't expect Brittany to go into the warrior world without an explanation into what their rules are and what she has to expect. Though I did find in rather exasperating at times that it took Brittany so long to figure out that it wasn't just some big scheme, all in all in was a good book.

First, you have to understand that I LOVE Johanna Lindsey novels. I have a bookcase full, and I reread them all. That said, this Sci-Fi series (including Warrior's Woman and Keeper of the Heart) is absolutely atrocious! I made the mistake of buying Warrior's Woman and Keeper of the Heart, and they are the only Lindsey novels I have ever sent to goodwill! The only good thing I can say about Heart of a Warrior is that I checked it out of the Library, so at least I didn't waste any money. I would have given it zero stars, but that isn't an option!
These books, with their made-up planets and civilizations, were impossible for me to get into, and I never finished any of them. Most of her other books I easily read in one night. Even the less than spectacular The Gift and Home for the Holidays were readable.
I didn't care at all about the characters and found the worlds, the language and the history uninteresting and tedious. It was so bad that I don't even remember the names of the characters!
Don't buy this book. If you borrow it and disagree with my opinion, you can always go out and add it to your library. And if you're not already a Lindsey fan, please don't start with this series. Her other books are MUCH better!

I will never forget my very first romance novel, which I read 10 years ago--A Gentle Feuding, written by Johanna Lindsey. I was 100% faithful to her and read all her books. I then branched out to other authors like Roberts, McNaught, Deveraux, etc. Yesterday, at the library, I found two books by Lindsey I hadn't read, The Heir and this one. I read The Heir first, and never put it down until it was finished. I remembered why I enjoyed her books so much. Easy reading, totally drawing you into the setting and story. I was excited to start the next novel, Heart of the Warrior, and realized my excitement fizzeled out by page23. I have never done this before, but I actually put the book down and started a new book, with no intentions of finishing this Heart of a Warrior. I have never been so disappointed. If I wanted sci fi and space travel, I will watch Star Trek with my husband. My romance novels are for my escape, and I didn't like the current day/sci fi twist that Lindsey was applying. I just wanted to let others know that if you are a fan because of her ability to bring you back to old countries, the "ton", candles, horseback and the 1500s, etc., this is not the book for you.

Really, this is disappointing! I wonder if this is a romance novel or a fantasy narration. Brittany and Dalden barely interact enough to fall in love. In fact, there are more ink of Brittany interacting with the computer Martha than with Dalden. There is virtually no sex scene, which makes this book unbearingly dull. Brittany is not an impressive lead character, rather stupid and stubborn. How could she keep convincing herself that she is in some fantasy programme?! This romance just doesn't hold water.

I own every Johanna Lindsey romance and have never been as disappointed as I am right now (I just finished reading Heart of a Warrior). I was skeptical about futuristic romances from the start but Warrior's Woman won me over. Now I have reverted to my original conclusion.
A lot of the other reviews have complained about Martha the computer, but I thought Martha was the best part of this book and that is VERY sad. Brittany and Dalden's characters were never developed nor was their relationship. I buy romances for the romance, which this book was sadly lacking. Not only was there no romance, there was also no passion. The plot was, in a word, 'stupid'. There were major holes which should have been filled, or at least addressed. (If Brittany is so close to her family, won't they be worried sick over the fact that she just disappers for years at a time?) Throughout the book some scenes were left unfinished and the ending was rushed and completely unsatisfying.
I eagerly await the next Lindsey book so that it can hopefully wipe this disappointment from my mind. Ms. Lindsey, next time go back to what you do best: HISTORICAL romance.

This is the third book about Tedra's son Dalden - recommended to read "Warrior's Woman" which is about Tedra herself and "Keeper of the Heart" which follows Tedra's daughter Shanelle, first to truly understand this plot line and to get a feel for the characters.

Ok so most reviews about this book have been particularly disappointed in the plot and character strengths....WAKE UP PEOPLE!!! Yes this may have not been as good as the other two books but for a third installment I still thought it was amazing, especially since it was a completely different playing field for Dalden. Really, think about it! In the other two books they centre around either one or two other planets in the universe that are 'alien' I for one think it was refreshing and a damn good idea to make Dalden's adventure on our very own Earth. To me it just makes the book a little more believable and authentic because the characters struggle to learn things that are not alien to US the readers, so we are not also trying to figure out customs and rules because guess what! We already know them! I am knew to Johanna Lindsey but I think she is definitely one of my favourites.

Buy buy buy! After you have read the first two :)

of course we wanted dalden to have his story - but this was pretty bad. The sci-fi thing only worked when it was fully sci-fi, bringing it home to earth did NOT work. holes in the plot are big enough to trip into. romance does not work between dalden and britney and just ends up being very silly. skip it if you want to remember the first two in the series fondly.

I picked up this book ... yesterday morning and had it finished by 8 o'clock that night. It was a very good book. What interested me about it in the first place was that I was wondering if and when Johanna was going to write about Tedra's and Challen's son Dalden and this is his story. It adds both futuristic and modern day to this story. You will find some old friends and some old enemies but again you will find a love story worthy of Johanna Lindsey. When Dalden is asked for help he has to go to a world that there are just rumors of having life on it and when he gets there he finds the rumors to be true. He finds he will need the help of someone from this planet and she is more than willing to help him. Together they will find a way to help each other and to find the love of a lifetime. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and think you will too.

Once I would have bought a Johanna Lindsey book without reading the back cover or any reviews. That was until "Say You Love Me" "The Heir" "Joining" "Home for the Holidays" and now finally "Heart of a Warrier".
Now I kinda read the reviews and story line and maybe hold off a day or so and then buy the book and pray that the brilliance of all those earlier books is back.
Well after Heart of a Warrier, no more......I can honestly say that I disliked the female lead and was disappointed that Dalden got lumped with her. She was shallow and I would have been quite happy if Tedra had thumped her once or twice.
From now on, I'll just re read my favourite Lindsey novels and let the new ones alone.

I have read every Johanna Lindsey book, and I have to say thisone was missing something. It lacked the intense emotional and explicit scenes I usually associate with a Lindsey book. I was a bit disappointed, but it was still worth the $$ spent buying it. The plot could have been developed a little more, and the characters seemed to missing the usual VAVOOM normally Lindsey puts out. I have to agree with the other reviews I've read, I felt that this book was a little rushed just to get something out on the shelves. All in all if I would still buy the book again, and look forward to many more books from Ms Lindsey.

As soon as I heard there would be another "Warrior" book, I planned to buy it the day it was available. I'm glad I did. Ms. Lindsey has once again delivered characters you feel you know intimately, and fun, fun, fun! This is the most enjoyable book I have read in months. Bravo Johanna!

Like many other reviewers I have read everything that Johanna Lindsey has written. When I first read what the plot of this book was I cringed. I was not thrilled with the other futuristic novel but it's a Lindsey so I had to read it. I was so disappointed, more than anything by the lack of billed-up in the book. Not to mention the inconsistancy. I mean, how could the heroin leave the planet and her family not even be mentioned. I wont stop reading her books because I do love all the others, but don't read this one as your fist Lindsey novel, try any one of her other books.

This fabulous story has characters from very near and very far. The struggle, between these two characters, trying to understand their very different cultures keep you laughing and cheering!! No juicy scenes, no steamy debates, no humor. NOTHING!

The annoying computer needed to be unplugged. Brittany was dim. I can't compare this to anything else JL has written. I kept thinking -- is some kinda joke!?! Who wrote this crap?

Lindsey was my favorite. If this were my 1st by her, I'd be done.

Johanna Lindsay authored "Angel", one of my all-time favorite romances. So, I was sorely disappointed when I bought "Heart of a Warrior" and started reading. I kept waiting for it to get better. Instead it steadily went downhill. There was absolutely no chemistry between the hero and heroine. Ms. Lindsay is so talented, I hope she will return to writing the kinds of stories she does best.

In three words, SAD, truely a sad piece of literary. This book starts off very slowly, and then it becomes confusing. I could not figure out within the first chapter what was the plot about. Then the bomb dropped, a sequel to Warrior's Women, which by the way was a good book. However, this story should be given to lost and found box. Try again Johanna, do what Stella did, GET YOUR GROOVE BACK. I skipped over so many pages just to get to the ending and even then it was not worth my time or effort, which, means not worth buying.
Sorry

Without mentioning the rape and explicitly violent books written by the author, this is her very worst. An interesting read at from the begining to the middle, but after that-dead in the water. Anyone ever notice the enormous amount of twins found in JL's books? Also, unless it is a sequal, there is a suprising lack of a maternal parent in virtually all of her stories. Although the character had a mother in this one, she is suprisingly(or rather unsuprisingly) absent. Not once does this girl think about all the wory her mother is going to experience as a result of her disappearence. Furthermore, I'd like to meet an American woman who would put up with being PUNISHED! But then again I'd like to meet an American woman over 25 who is still a virgin. A little realism in my fantasy please. Don't waste your time with this one.

are you sure about that? Is this book really depicted the love story between Dalden and Brittany? As I have read it, it was more of Brittany and Martha that played the scenes and no more. I haven't got the chance to know more about Dalden! It was always Brittany's childish whims, always about her insecurities and I hate it! It was repeatedly whinned in there until I gave up but continued it though, for a paid for this book. Anyway, we can't expect JL to write funny-filled stuff forever, can we?
