Loved all the characters, flaws and all. Perfection can be boring. Not sure I would want to be a member of this congregation, but a church is made up of sinners. There is love and Hope for these friends.

I thought this was a disgusting portrayal of a Christian church. It wasn't funny. The characters were irritating. I have never seen people behave like this, Christian or not. I don't know why I finished this book. I was in such shock that I kept thinking someting would change.

Don't let the reduced word count of this fantastic work of fiction fool you. What Gentry has managed to pack into this novella is a bit mind boggling! Fresh humor, witty dialogue, and some of THE BEST characterization I've read in 2016, each line of this family drama sings with purpose.
As I met these hilariously eccentric and charmingly flawed characters, scenes from the movie Steel Magnolias flashed through my mind on multiple occasions. (And goodness knows how much I love that movie.) Gentry did a phenomenal job layering this tale with emotional depth and juicy backstories. No doubt her readers will be hooked for future installments of Mt. Hope!

Lynne Gentry gives a realistic, tear-jerking-yet-humorous look behind the curtain at the normal -- and not-so-normal -- challenges of spiritual leaders. As a fan of her imaginative, sometimes nail-biting, time-travel adventure series, The Carthage Chronicles - (WHAT? You haven't read them? Go there, now!!!), I thought at first that I was reading a new author, but Mrs. Gentry's signature characterization skills, insight and wit quickly pulled me into the Harper family's grief and complex dynamics, showing me a different side of this talented writer.

This book had me laughing and crying plus saying a rude word or 2.
It is without any doubt one of the best written books I have read in some time. An excellent story line coupled with strong characters and values make this a must read.

Walking Shoes ( Mt. Hope Southern Adventures-Book 1 )
By: Lynne Gentry
Walking Shoes is book one in Mt. Hope Southern Adventures series. Ms Gentry has weaved a story that will have your heart broken. She will have you laughing one minute and the next you will have tears rolling down your face. She had me hooked right at the start. Walking Shoes is funny, serious, grief, and starting over. A Tragedy strikes the Harper family and nothing is ever the same. Leona Harper has been a Pastor’s wife for thirty years , she knows nothing else. There are Two Adult children who has already left home on their own. The characters in this story are busybodies, lovable, and some are very good friends. I really enjoyed Walking Shoes and can’t wait to read book two, Shoes To Fill .
I was given a complimentary copy of this book , but was not told that I had to give a positive review. All opinions are my own.
