Third Degree started out like a romance novel rather than a Greg Iles thriller. However, it did evolve into a fast-paced novel with lots of twists and turns typical of Greg Iles. It was lots of fun and a great read.

Something strange is happening to Dr. Shields...

His wife has just ended an affair. His medical practice is facing a tax audit. His not-so-ethical partner and his office manager are in the crosshairs of a Medicaid fraud investigation. Someone is sending him emails telling him that something incriminating is hidden in his house.

When these dammed-up pressures begin to burst with the discovery of a saved adulterous love letter secreted between the pages of Pride and Prejudice, Dr. Shields, I'm afraid, spins out of control....

Third Degree is the story of his meltdown, told in real time over the span of twenty-four sleepless hours. Attention must be paid, and there will be consequences - for Dr. Shields, his wife, his children, his partner, his staff, and the undisclosed lover who Dr. Shields is obsessed with unmasking.

Greg Iles masters the dramatic tension of this story. He creates vivid and real characters. He throws ingenious plot twists into the claustrophobic atmosphere of his story. And, most satisfyingly, he raises issues of faith, morality, duty and honor, and he probes them from unexpected perspectives.

All this makes for more than just another fine suspense story. It is what many of us readers have come to expect from Greg Iles. I for one clearly have not been disappointed.

If Greg Iles wrote the telephone book I would read it cover to cover. He is just that good. This story was suspenseful, tense, somewhat predictable and entertaining as hell. As much as I liked it I had a had time trying to figure out what value the 2 office girls added to the story. The fine line between love and hate makes this kind of scenario all the more captivating. I couldn't put it down.

Writer had a good storyline but it was dragged out. The wife was way too understanding about having a gun pointed at her most of the time. The role of the son was unrealistic. This was not one of Greg Isles' best work

The perfect housewife of a small town Southern doctor in a story that leads to betrayal, love, and the motherly instinct to protect your children at all costs. Laurel is a special needs teacher who gets caught up in her students lives but never does she see the intrigue that lies ahead for her and her family. Hhr husband's irractic behavior is becoming more and more of an issue and the lies that will be discovered lying just beyond the reach of the moss laden trees that have hidden the seemingly slow and sometimes innocent (did I just say that) murderous intent of others.
