I have never read a book centered around tabletop rpgs that has so captured the feel of the game. At sometimes the jokes may seem juvenile, but we all have the same player types in our games that are represented by the main characters in the series. I laughed till I cried during these books.

Excellent. Very entertaining read. Low-brow humor written in an intelligent and humorous way that shows the author really enjoys what he's writing. Genuinely funny but also follows a good story arc if you read all the books in the series.

Until a guy named Terry Pratchett came along, the phrase "comic fantasy" was something of an oxymoron. Sure, it's been attempted by authors like Piers Anthony and Craig Shaw Gardener, but the actual result has pretty much been the literary equivalent of AIDS multiplied by the Holocaust. It's been BAD, folks.
I'm glad to say today that another author can make those words something other than a sad joke. As a matter of fact, Critical Failures II is packed with great jokes, with gags ranging from clever wordplay and gaming geek humor, to actually making me gag imagining the misery of being an incontinent half-orc. Here's hoping this mixture of high-and lowbrow humor fused with solid story structure becomes known as "the Robert Bevan style".
If you ever wondered what Dungeons and Dragons would look like after a trip to South Park, wonder no more. If you just like a good yarn well told and with actual character development, it is also worth a look.
Provided, of course, you can deal with incontinent half-orcs.

I generally shy away from novels with excessive, unnecessary, foul language. Which these books have a lot of. That being said, it is, after all, a book about role players being thrown for real into the universe they play in. And they are jerks, so perhaps the language isn't so uncalled for. I guess that I think the stereo - typing is a little severe. After all, I play D&D, and I'm a grandmother who is a little more careful with Mt words. But it's a thought provoking story with amusing adventures for all that.

'Critical Failures II: Fail Harder' is the continuing hilarious tale of a small group of RPG players who are trapped in the fantasy realm of Caverns and Creatures.
I have to say I'm loving this series. The first book was brilliant, and although the short stories were excellent I had been dying to find out what was next for the guys and where Chaz & Katherine have been hiding all this time. Their story continues as they discover there are others like them who've also been sent there by Mordred.
I wasn't sure where the plot would go from where the first book left off but it managed to both shock and satisfy. There are some really cool and amusing twists to the story, and there are definitely as many laugh out loud moments as there were in the first book.
The ending shocked and left me wanting more. Brilliant continuation to a fantastic fantasy comedy series. Can't wait for the next book. Highly recommended!

Having no sooner finished reading the first book in this series, I immediately plunged headlong into the second book. Oftentimes sequels fail to live up to their predecessor, but this sequel was every bit as entertaining as the first book. As with the first book, there were several times in this book that I actually laughed out loud, which is a rarity for me.
I devoured this second book in just a few days and am already looking forward to starting book 3.
Based on these first two books, this series promises to keep me entertained until the last page of the last book.

I really liked the second book.
We are introduced to more characters, more leveling up, and more failure.
The narrator in the audible version grows on you, I found him annoying the first book - but just fine the second book.
I can't wait to start volume 3!

The stories are fun and continue the adventures from the first novel. I am looking forward to the third novel and will get it when it comes out.
Note to the author: A couple laugh out loud moments really make the purchase worthwhile; but, please, enough with the vomit/poop/pee jokes. It is not funny to read about someone getting poop/pee/vomit all over themselves and others on every other page. Please find a new convention to amuse us with! Once in a rare while reading about someone getting someone else's bodily fluids on them is amusing; the constant barrage, however, becomes burdensome...
